Getting Started

Read through the entire experiment so you will know what is coming up next.

Write your hypothesis using the “If-Then” format.

Follow the procedure, recording all data. (That means write it all down in an orderly way.)

Hypothesis

Before you can write the hypothesis, you need to understand the purpose of the experiment. What are you trying to ‘prove’ or find out by doing the experiment? Where do you go for ideas about the purpose of the experiment? What is the title of the experiment? What are the objectives/goals of the experiment? What is in the background information/introductory

paragraph that will help you?

Procedures

Procedures are instructions on how to do the experiment.

Background and first part of procedures is about how to use the software and practice.

There are 3 experiments to complete, however I want you to complete Section 1 only.

Procedures can be re-written or copied and pasted into the blank lab report.

Data/Observations

Complete the tables as you go through the procedures for each experiment.

These measurements will be used in Calculations/Interpretations.

Calculations/Interpretations Section 1

Use the measurements in the data table to calculate density.

Density = mass / volumeD = m/v

Calculations/Interpretations Section 1

Mass of each metal is 10 g (from the data table)

Volume of metal is calculated:volume of water and metal (from the data table) - volume of water (for each is 30 mL, from the data table)

Calculations for density of copper:volume of copper = 31.12 mL – 30.0 mL = 1.12 mL

Density = 10.00 g / 1.12 mL = 8.93 g/mL

Finishing Up

Use the template to write your report.Type your hypothesis immediately after the

directions for it.Type your procedure immediately following

the directions for it.Insert your data in the space provided in the

data section.

Final Finish

Answer all of the questions in the calculations/interpretations section.

Complete all of the calculations and enter them in the appropriate place.

Write your conclusion telling if your hypothesis was correct or incorrect and support your statement with your results. This should be about a paragraph in length.
