Introduction Due to the E86 ECM's restrictive architecture LML support does not adhere to the typical "EFILive process" for tuning supported vehicles. EFILive generally requires customers to first read and save their ECM's tune, then edit the calibrations before finally flashing the modified tune back into the vehicle. However it is not possible to read the LML ECM via the OBD-II Port, (the ECM can only be read by opening the ECM and soldering to the CPU debug port using expensive 3rd party tools). Customers will need to obtain a suitable base file for editing and flashing purposes, a selection of EFILive compatible base stock files are readily available on the internet or custom files may be purchased through organizations that have the necessary hardware and software to create personalized base files. There are two ECM types; EFILive refers to these as E86A and E86B. E86A is used in 2011-2014 model year vehicles, and E86B commenced with the 2015 model year. Because you cannot read the existing tune in the ECM it is important you select the correct base tune to suit your vehicle. The correct selection can be confirmed using GM's online Calibration ID website.

Determine Calibration Requirements Determine the specific details of the latest tune available for your vehicle from the GM Calibration ID website: https://tis2web.service.gm.com/tis2web Enter in the VIN of the vehicle you need to check and click the "Get CAL ID" button.

Select the 'ECM Engine Control Module' and click the 'Next' button on the right hand side of the web page.

Select the 'Complete History' button to see the details for all segments used in this ECM (there are 9 segments in total for E86A and 8 segments for E86B).

A list of all the updates GM have released by part number will be displayed.. Document each segment (e.g. 'Engine') and the part number for that segment (e.g. 12655862). These part numbers will be used to find your matching base tune. NOTE: As GM revise tune files, the part number list will be updated with the most recent part number listed first, and older part numbers listed in below the latest release.

Match Calibration Requirements to EFILive Tune File Load an LML .ctz file in to EFILive V8 (must have V8.2.2.238 or later installed), and match the segment numbers displayed under the F3: Calibration tab against the segments documented from GM CalID.

Once you find a matching tune this can now become your base file should you ever need to revert back to a stock tune. Alternatively, it is also possible to check what part numbers your ECM currently has installed using EFILive V8. Press the 'F4: OBD' button from the main menu.

Press the 'Auto Detect' button, or choose the ECM from the drop down list in the engine-controller box selecting either E86A for 2011-2014 models or E86B for 2014+ models.

Press the 'Read' button to obtain a summary of what is currently in the ECM. Shown is the Segment name, Part Number and CVN.

Match the segment part numbers displayed in the screen shot above against the LML .ctz file obtained from external sources. In instances where a factory update is available for your vehicle, but has not been flashed, using a combination of the above two methods will assist in locating a suitable base file. You cannot save the tune already installed in the ECM, once you flash over it, it is gone forever, so choose your base tune wisely.

Failed Flash Recovery Methods In the event that an ECM fails during the flashing process, recovery methods exist to restore the ECM. In most instances, retrying the flash process will return the ECM to working order. In the instance where tuners apply security restrictions to a tune file, including locking to the controller serial number, and the flash fails, you must try to recover the ECM with a file that has no security restrictions in place (e.g. stock tune) before attempting to reflash a file with security restrictions.
