For Private Circulation Only Vol. 8 No. Jun 2012

There were representatives from most of the associations and concern for the issues was visible. All the

delegates were thankful to the Presidents of Avery Dennison and UPM Raflatac for the valuable inputs and active

participation. We were all bowled over by the warm welcome and care taken by the host Japanese association and

Lintec Corporation. The Japanese team exemplified in extending courtesy and hospitality. The humility of the

Japanese is a lesson for one and all. The tour then moved to Osaka where we saw the successful implementation of Toyota manufacturing practices

in our own label printing Industry. The tour was a satisfying experience of meetings, visits, exchange of ideas and

experiences.

Mr. Vivek Kapoor, Mr. Sandeep Zaveri, Mr. Ajay Mehta with Jussi Vanhanen of UPM & his colleague,

John Leathart from LATMA & Fabian from Mexico

LMAI delegates with Mr. Goro Iwasaki-President &

Mr. Ryohei Iwasaki-Sales Director of Iwasaki.

Mr. Shiro Iwasaki- Chairman,

The 3rd L9 meet took place in Japan between 2nd of April and 5th

April. Sustain ability of the Earth and recycling were the key points of the meet.Braving an unusual storm as well as a couple of minor earthquakes in Tokyo , the delegates

went about the serious business of tackling these issues. The importance of this issue was

highlighted by the presence of the Presidents of Avery Dennison as well as UPM Raflatac.

For the first time they both shared a common platform and expressed their points of view. To put matters in proper perspective , of the total material manufactured as Pressure

Sensitive materials , about 45% - 50 % is a waste. There is a 3-4 % waste generated at

the time of coating and slitting. Additionally 15 % waste is generated in the form of Matrix

,and release liner which constitutes 35% by weight of the product ( in most cases ) is a

waste at the end of the life cycle of a label.

India is a growing economy and use of labels is restricted by the lack of use of packaged

goods. As consumption of packaged goods will increase , labels will increase and we will see

the problems of waste management as key issues. On the other hand is a fact that natural

resources , though recyclable in certain cases , are limited. As time progresses and demand

increases , shortage of raw material is inevitable. This will result in pressures on price.

support the MSME sector cannot come out of its technological obsolescence and move up the

plants and equipments with advanced technologies, viz., CLCSS & NMCP components be merged

into the aforesaid scheme for Technology Acquisition and Development .

Report of the Working Group on MSMEs Growth for 12th Five Year Plan (2012-2017)Delayed payments or delayed realization of receivables has all along been a growth constraint of MSME sector by impinging on their liquidity. Factoring services by banks / NBFCs would help in addressing the issue in a great way. In order to uspscale the factoring services for augmenting the flow of finance to MSME sector, it is suggested to enable setting up of a number of factoring companies which requires support by way of equity capital contribution to the new and existing factoring companies to enhance their networth and enable them to leverage higher credit from the institutional channels. Hence, it is suggested to introduce a scheme called “ support for Factoring Services “ with budgetary support of Rs 500 crore during the 12 th plan.
