It is matter of great pride that the Lloyd Law College has progressed by leaps and bounds. I had the occasion to see the evolution of this college since its inception.

Contents Legal profession is considered to be a front line profession of the learned. A lawyer, therefore, is expected to have manifold qualities and knowledge not only of law but also of other disciplines which have relevance in understanding the socio-economic and political realities of the world at large.

In today's globalised environment, the skills needed by the law students are no more of the traditional type. They require a high degree of competence to deal with the emerging challenges posed by ever-changing national and international legal scenario. It has been the endeavour of Lloyd Law College to prepare the students for this challenge and evolve them as legal luminaries of the future. LLC has been consistently focusing on legal matters keeping in view the technological advancement besides providing the students a strong base of socio-economic and political realities.

The key features and objects of LLC are to impart education with latest teaching methodologies so as to compete at the global platform. The faculty members of the College are selected from among persons with unfathomable interest in legal learning and research. Orientation Programme

Prof. Dr. S.P. Singh, Director General, Lloyd Law College, while thanking the dignitaries stated the rules and regulations of the

college. He advised the students to be dedicated towards the studies and possess thorough knowledge of law. He said that as

professionals of law, they should be faithful to the client and honest to the judge. He also emphasized on socio-legal services.

Mr. Surat Singh, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India, delivered a lecture on “How to become a good lawyer”. He emphasized on the qualities which a law student must possess in order to be successful in this avenue. He said that the “Mantras to Success” are sound conceptual knowledge of the subject area, social interactive skills, communication skills, ability to adapt and respectful questioning.

Mr. A.K.Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police, Gautam Budh Nagar, in his lecture described the Indian Police System and informed the students about the various constraints under which our police force operates. He also invited our students to visit his office and police stations to understand the working of police.

Honourable Mr. Justice B.K.Rathi, in his speech, advised the students to be very honest with their studies as these five years will decide their future. He also boosted the students by saying that law profession is the most thrilling and challenging profession among all other professions.

Mr. O.P Saxena, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India, delivered a lecture on “Importance of Law”, which was very informative and encouraged the students to become successful law professionals. He also guided the students regarding the new emerging legal avenues.

Constitution is a vision not the policy only … In the series of guest lectures, Prof.( Dr.) M.P. Singh,Vice-Chancellor, West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata on Feb. 9th, 2011 delivered a lecture on 'How to study Constitution' which was followed by students' queries and discussion.

• A very informative & thought provoking lecture was delivered by Mr. Rajesh Dixit, Asst. Controller, Patent and Designs Ministry of Commerce, New Delhi.

• A workshop for the final year students about the career opportunity in law in UK was organized. Prof. Olive (Bangor University) was invited to guide the students about importance and utility of law. The possibility of international studies regarding post graduate programmes in law was discussed at length followed by question - answer session.

• Linguistic skills workshop was organized for the students of B.A.LL.B Ist year in the language lab of the college by the professional linguistic trainer Mr. Parneet from U.K. in the month of August/ September 2010.

Achievements & Participation In Moot Court Competitions

At Lloyd Law College, Moot Courts are viewed as an integral

part of legal education, aimed to acclimatize the students to the

skills of lawyering in general and advocacy in particular. The

objective behind the Moot Courts is to inculcate court culture

and courtroom etiquettes among law students and make them

conversant with the art of pleading besides familiarizing them

with various aspects of law. The moot court activities of the

college are co-ordinated by the Lloyd Moot Court Society.

The responsibilities of the Society include conducting a

rigorous selection process and helping the participating

students in preparing memorials and mooting skills. The

College organizes a series of NCR Level Moot Competitions

every year. The next in series is scheduled to be organized in

the month of October 2011. The Lloyd Moot Court

Society also organizes an Intra Collegiate Moot Court

Competition twice in a year.

Each College will send professors to the other College to deliver lectures, do research and organise workshops on matters within their

academic expertise. Faculty will be supported financially by their home institutions, however the host will provide administrative and

other support to visitors.

Each year leading Lloyd Law College seniors (in their last year of

either the 3 year LL.B or the 5 year integrated B.A., LL.B.

programmes) will be encouraged to apply to Chicago-Kent’s

LLM programmes and if admitted, will receive a 25% tuition

discount from Chicago- Kent. Chicago-Kent will award up to

five (5) such scholarships per academic year for a period of three

years from the date of this agreement.

Cultural Activity

SUMMON 2010-11

The College celebrated its Annual Function 'SUMMON' with great grandeur, fervour and enthusiasm on 16th March, 2011. The

students staged various cultural activities like group dances, play, mimicry, salsa, punjabi bhangra etc. The key attraction of the function

was ramp walk by freshers which charged the atmosphere. The Chief Guest, Mr. H.S. Yadav, District Judge, Gautam Buddha Nagar

was highly captivated all through the function and was mesmerized by the salsa performance. In his speech, he made the students

understand the working of the district courts in a hierarchical manner and invited the students to his court to witness the proceedings of

district court. He commended the college authorities for the radiant beautification of the premises and hospitality in connection with the

spirit of the function. Recollecting his college days at Agra, he said, “In my time the law field was not taken so seriously as a career as it is

taken today because the corporate world has given a new outlook to the legal education.” Prof. (Dr.) S. P. Singh, while welcoming the

Chief Guest, Shri H.S. Yadav, narrated the entire activities of the College during the past academic year. He also held the judiciary in

high esteem while emphasizing its importance in the running of the government.

Prof. (Dr.) S.P. Singh has been honoured by the World Management Congress Committee, Global Open University, Nagaland, Commonwealth of Distance Education (CODE) Summit and Confederation of India Universities with the Lifetime Achievement Award in the area of educational planning and administration on 31st December 2010 at India International Centre, New Delhi.

Prof. (Dr.) S.P. Singh has also been honoured by the Government of India with the Eminent Citizen of India Award in May, 2010 and has been given the charge of Narmada District in Gujrat under Mahatma Gandhi Narega Programme. Dr. Singh visited Narmada district and made many improvements in the working of the Programme.

Activities

Lloyd Law College is a good venture to wards legal studies. Prof. (Dr.) T. H. Khan Ex. Dean Faculty of Law J.M.I. New Delhi

Blood Donation CampLloyd Law College in association with Rotary Club organized a blood donation camp at college campus. More than 100 students donated their blood for RED CROSS Society.

Legal Aid CampTo foster and inculcate the sense of service, students organized legal aid camp at Surajpur. Students worked as legal counsels to the local population who attended this camp. It provided them an opportunity to not only hone their drafting skills but also to enrich their understanding on legal veracity.

Students' TourTo break the monotony and bring freshness, the Students' Annual Tour is organised every year to the most favoured locations of the students. In Dec 2010, under the supervision of faculty the students tour was sent to Shimla where they visted the famous Pottar ’s Hill, Shimla University, Phagu, Golf Course etc. The next tour is scheduled to Goa.

SportsAll Study and no play makes jack a dull boy. To justify this proverb Sports

th thDay was organized by the Sports Committee on 17 and 18 Feb 2011, in

the college playground. Cricket, Badminton, Tug-of-war were the special

attractions of the day. Prof. S. P. Singh, Director General of the College

inaugurated the sport's event. Students of all classes participated in different

genres of the game. Friendly match with teachers was also an attraction.

Shivangini Binny and Shruti Verma were the joint winner of the Badminton

Championship (Women category) and Karanveer Chaudhary and Saurabh

Kumar were declared winner of the Men Badminton Championship. Students thof 8 sem. won cricket tournament on knock-out basis.Various other indoor

games were also conducted in which students enthusiastically participated

and refreshed themselves.

1st Gita Shlok Chanting CompetitionAt the instance of Mrs. D. Malik (Vice-Principal), the College, in the auspicious days of Navratras, organized its Ist Annual Gita Shlok Chanting Competition on

th6 March, 2011 in Moot Court Hall in which students from Law and B.Ed Departments participated enthusiastically and fervently. The performance of the

students was judged by eminent Prof. Sarita Singh, Dept. of Sanskrit, Kamla Nehru College, Delhi University. Prof. Sarita Singh is a poetess of national level and is a

person of name & fame in the fraternity of hindi – poems. She is news reader also at Doordarshan. The College honoured her and she was also elated after

experiencing the college environment and wished to visit the College again. The Competition ended with the vote of thanks conferment of awards to the winners by

Prof. Dr. S. P. Singh, Director General, LLC.

Students’ Articles Lok Adalat: - People Justice. (Niharika Dube, B.A.LL.B. VI Sem.)The institution of Lok Adalat in India is gaining popularity quite steadily since its introduction in its present visage in 1982. It is a relatively new but entirely indigenous institution that has been developed by the people themselves for social justice. It is a new system of dispensation of justice which has come into existence to grapple with the problem of giving cheap and speedy justice to the people.

Lok Adalat, as the very name suggests, means people court. Lok stands for people and the vernacular meaning of the term adalat is court. Lok Adalat itself goes to the people to deliver justice at their door steps. So it is a kind of a forum provided by the people themselves or by interested parties including social activists, legal aides and public spirited people belonging to every walk of life. In order to ensure that the settlement is fair and according to law, the forum may consist of legally trained people who are respected in the community where the Lok Adalats are constituted.

The Lok Adalat movement can be successful only if the people participate on voluntarily basis in the functioning of Lok Adalats. The mobilization of people can usually be done through the voluntary organizations and with the help of people who are fair minded persons, committed to the cause of justice to the poor.

Dialectic of Law (Anand, B.A.LL.B. IV Sem.)Dialecticism was given by Hegal and developed by great economic thinker Karl Marx. No Society can develop without dialectic science. There is thesis, antithesis and synthesis relationship between the society. Today changes in Judicial or legal system are due to this branch of science. Dharma to law or law to humanity is a dialectic struggle of the society. No Society can exist without this struggle. For example economic and political changes are due to dialectic process of law. Difference in thought always draw the society towards progress. Story of Human being from stone to software developed due to dialectical relationship. Every society is run by its forces and structural changes. Law also grows out of these changes and nothing else.

Aruna Ramchandra Shanbhag V Union of India, Supreme Court of India, Writ Petition (Crl.) No. 115 of 2009

The Supreme Court dismissed writer Pinky Virani's euthanasia plea for comatose sodomy victim Aruna Shanbaug but laid down

certain guidelines for mercy killing which will hold good till Parliament formulates a further law in this matter. The case was dismissed

because it was held that Pinky Virani was not the 'next friend' of the victim but the staff of KEM Hospital in Mumbai were her well

wishers who have been taking care of Aruna ever since the incident happened. The staff of KEM Hospital were opposed to allowing

Aruna die because they have looked after her with dedication for the last 37 years.

The Supreme Court in a landmark judgment has allowed only 'passive euthanasia 'under exceptional conditions' and still hasn't given a

go ahead to active euthanasia or commonly called mercy killing. Passive euthanasia would occur when medical treatment is withheld

or withdrawn leading to the death of a terminally ill person. In such cases, a doctor does not administer a substance or any treatment

meant to deliberately end a person's life, which would amount to active euthanasia. Instead, a doctor will agree to withdraw medical

treatment when it is clear that a person will not recover from a terminal illness.
