Glory Bound Youth Choir - Rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 6:00-6:30 in the church. All children grades 3-12 are welcome to join and sing. Student musicians are welcome.
Adult Choir Rehearsal - For the 8:30 am Sunday Mass, rehearsals are Wednesday at 7:00 pm and for the Saturday 5:00 pm and Sunday 11:00 am Masses, rehearsals are Thursdays at 7:00 pm.

Scriptural Rosary A Scriptural Rosary recital is held at 8:30 am on the first Saturday of each month in the Day Chapel. In the Scriptural Rosary, one or two lines from the Bible are said before each Hail Mary. The whole rosary takes about 25 minutes. Please bring your family, children and friends on November 2. All you have to do is join in saying the Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be or just pray along silently.
Religious Education
It is not too late to register for Sunday School if you haven’t already. You may register your children (K3 – GR12) on the Prince of Peace website, www.popcatholic.org, or pick up a form in the labeled basket by the Religious Education Office. Payment can be made via Paypal on the website or by check made payable to ‘Prince of Peace’. Many thanks to the adult volunteers and teen helpers who share the richness of our faith with the many children participating in this Formation Ministry!

Marriage Enrichment Happy Together: The Catholic Blueprint for a Loving Marriage is a six-week workshop based on the acclaimed book by John Bosio, family life educator and former marriage and family therapist. Sessions will address problems and challenges faced by many couples. On October 30, Ted & Iris Bjorn will be here to discuss Chapters 8 & 9, “I Forgive You and Ask for Forgiveness” and “Comfort and Help Each Other Heal.” Join us on Wednesdays from 6:30-7:30 pm in the St. Monica Room for this workshop. Altar Server Training Altar Server Training will be provided on Saturday, November 16 from 9:00-11:00 am and Sunday, November 17 from 6:00-8:00 pm in the Main Church. This training is for children in 4th grade and up who wish to become an altar server or those who are currently altar servers and desire refresher training. Popes, Saints and Infidels The new book, Popes, Saints and Infidels, is available near the welcome desk in
the gathering space. Written by Prince of Peace Director of Adult Education, Mike Brown, the book provides a unique commentary on people who have
influenced the Catholic Church through its history. A $5 donation to Prince of Peace is requested.

The “Six Weeks with the Bible” series will continue on October 27 with a new study on St. Paul’s Letter to the Romans. The study begins with The Saga and Message of the Old Testament. Noted Scripture scholar Amy-Jill Levine, Professor at Vanderbilt University Divinity School, presents fascinating video commentaries that provide understanding and insight into God’s relationship with His chosen people. Women of Worship Tuesdays 9:30 am St. Jude Room
This women’s bible study group meets weekly throughout the school year for study, prayer, and fellowship. Our first study will be Jesus, the One and Only by Beth Moore, which examines the life of Jesus through the study of the book of Luke. We will continue the exploration of the Old Testament in a bible study led by Fr. Ackerman. There will be 2 sessions on each: Judith, Tobit, and Ezra/Nehemiah. We will finish Ezra/Nehemiah on October 30.

Living with Divorce as Catholics Wednesdays 6:30 - 7:30 pm St. Catherine Room
This weekly series deals with the issues faced by Catholics who experience divorce. Hear from trained professionals, clergy and lay people who have learned to cope with the challenges of divorce. Facilitated by Sonya Phillips.
Adventure Ark Playschool Our Bible story of the month is “The Man Who Helped” (Good Samaritan) and we will talk about our “helpful hands.” We are enjoying the cooler weather as we play on the playground. Nursery The church nursery is available Sunday mornings during the 8:30 and 11:00 am Masses for children ages 6 months through 2 years of age. Service Project: On Saturday, November 9 we will be going to Camp Sumatanga to help with repairs and keep their grounds beautiful. Lunch will be provided and at the end of our workday we will have fun with the giant swing! Cost is $5 for the swing. We leave at 8:00 am from the school lot.
A BIG Thank You to all of our parents who helped provide appetizers, a main course, desserts, and opened their homes up to our teens! Over 70 teens and adults participated in our Progressive Dinner!

Middle School Youth Join us for dinner in Deasy Hall at 5:30 pm followed by activities in the school cafeteria. Pick up is at 7:30 pm in front of the school.

ZUMBA classes are on Tuesdays at 6:15 pm in Deasy Hall. Feel free to bring a friend; the ZUMBA

Nametags The Welcome Committee is taking orders for nametags in the Gathering Space for $5. Nametags are printed when 20 orders are received - usually the next week. October: Domestic Violence Awareness Month The person being harmed and the role of friends and extended family
Persons experiencing domestic violence are often termed “victims,” or if the situation has resolved “survivors,” but it is most important to recall they are children of God, with inherent dignity and deserving our love and respect. This is especially true because as abused persons they are often plagued by feelings of shame, fear, and depression, and have lost sight of the essential fact of their dignity and worthiness to be loved. At times, they may also make decisions that cause an observer (family member or friend) to question their judgment, or become frustrated with them for remaining in what seems to be an obviously dangerous or hopeless situation.
In sum, the gravity and difficulty for families touched by domestic violence is severe. Although the struggle toward healing and recovery can be difficult, our faith gives us reason for hope. On the World Day of Peace in 1997, Blessed John Paul II focused on this theme, as demanding as it is vital: “Offer forgiveness and receive peace...I know well that it is hard, and sometimes even appears to be impossible to forgive, but it is the only way, because all revenge and all violence give rise to further revenge and violence. It is certainly less difficult to forgive when one is aware that God never tires of loving and forgiving us...Let us never forget that everything passes, and only the eternal can fill the heart.” Frank J. Parents Supporting Parents in Loss Infant loss is a pain that only others who have experienced can fully understand. All parents who have
experienced the death of an infant, whether through miscarriage, stillbirth, accident, illness, or other loss
are invited to join Parents Supporting Parents on Monday, October 28 at 7:00 pm in the St. Monica
Room. This group is open to all parents regardless of where you are in the grieving process or what your
faith is. For more information, please email Sara O’Neal at [email protected].
Shared Blessings Everyday, we have families in our parish who are in need. Please consider donating items you no longer have use for to Prince of Peace. We accept all types of household necessities in good condition. We are currently in need of a washer, dresser/chest of drawers, queen headboard, twin bed, and kitchen essentials - pots & pans, skillets, trays, serving utensils, silverware, etc. If you would like to be part of this ministry or for more information, contact Kathy Claypoole at 205.451.3332 or email at [email protected] or contact Valeria Hernandez at 205.718.3385. On Sunday, November 10, a group from Prince of Peace will serve lunch to the needy
at the Church of the Reconciler. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to put into
practice the Stewardship Pillars of Hospitality and Service. Volunteers are needed to
provide food and desserts and help serve the meal on that Sunday. If you would like

Stewardship: Parishioners Answering God’s Call During the recent High School Youth Group Pumpkin Sale, adults were pushing a cart filled with pumpkins to the designated area on the church grounds. One of our youth, a 4th grader, interrupted a game he was playing to walk outside and help unload the pumpkins off the cart without being asked. This young man had apparently seen acts of stewardship in action and followed an example set by others.

Magnificat Prayer Breakfast: Our Lady of Sorrows is hosting the Magnificat Prayer Breakfast on Saturday,
November 2 from 9:30 am - 12:30 pm. The speaker will be Sena Higdon. Tickets are $10 and available until

Catholic Center for Concern Fundraiser: On Wednesday, October 30, they will host a Trash & Treasures Sale at
10:00 am with a Bingo Luncheon (cost $10 - includes lunch and 4 bingo cards good for 10 games) at 11:00 am.
This event will be at the Cedars Club of Birmingham. All proceeds go to the Catholic Center for Concern.
