Thank you to all of the choirs and musicians for the beautiful music during our Christmas Liturgies.
The choirs are now accepting new members. If your New Year resolution is to get involved, share your gift and love of music with your faith family or to learn how to sing in a choir. This is the perfect time to join.
Glory Bound Youth Choir - Our next rehearsal is Wednesday, January 8 at 6:00 pm. The youth choir is for children grade 3 and up. If your child likes to sing or would like to play their instrument at Mass this is a great way for them to participate.
Ushers are needed for all Masses.

Thank You from the Pastor Another beautiful Advent Season, Guadalupe Festival and Christmas holiday has passed. I want to take this opportunity to thank all those members of our Prince of Peace parish family who helped make our celebrations wonderful and meaningful.
I cannot name you all individually - the Parish Staff, lectors, ushers, choir members, angels, shepherds, altar servers, decorators, cooks, maintenance staff, greeters, traffic controllers - each person with a job, however large or small - together makes Prince of Peace Church a warm and welcoming stewardship community.
On behalf of Fr. McDaid, Fr. Ackerman, and myself, we appreciate your generosity to each of us and to our parish.
In years past, I had a friend who helped put up the Nativity scene in the church. Year after year, when we finished, he would sit back, admire his work, and exclaim, “This is the best one yet!” He never tired of the job or the same old figurines, but always found a new joy in putting the trees, lights, and manger together.
This is my wish for each of you - find a new joy in all you do this New Year!

Marriage Prep Class The next Marriage Prep Class held at Prince of Peace will be Sunday, January 26, from
9:30 am - 3:30 pm in the St. Jude Room. Anyone wishing to get married at Prince of Peace must attend a Marriage Prep Class. Please call the parish office to register at 205.822.9125.
Religious Education
Sunday School classes resume this weekend, January 5. We hope you enjoyed the break and had a blessed Christmas and New Year! We are eager to continue the Faith Formation of our parish children. Please keep the children, their families, and teachers in your prayers.
Can you help? We are still in need of teachers for the following Sunday School classes: 8:30 am (K5, GR1, Spec Ed); 9:40 am (Spec Ed); and 11:00 am (GR1 and a permanent sub). Baptismal Prep Class The next Baptism Prep Class will be held Sunday, January 12, at 9:30 am in the St. Catherine Room. Anyone wishing to have their child baptized at POP must attend this class one time. To register for the class and to schedule a Baptism, please call the parish office at 205.822.9125.

A Heartfelt Thank You... A heartfelt thank you is extended to the Knights of Columbus for the generous grant they awarded Prince of Peace Religious Education for the advancement of our Special Education programs. Through their generosity, we are able to continue and embellish the Formation program that touches the lives of so many families in the parish. We are privileged to have such a generous organization as part of our church family.

The study begins with The Saga and Message of the Old Testament. Noted Scripture scholar Amy-Jill Levine, Professor at Vanderbilt University Divinity School, presents fascinating video commentaries that provide understanding and insight into God’s relationship with His chosen people. Women of Worship Tuesdays 9:30 am St. Jude Room
Our new 7 week study will be The Frazzled Female by Cindi Wood. Discover with us how to grow in intimacy with Jesus and that this intimacy holds the key to dealing with life’s challenges. Adventure Ark Playschool Monday, January 6: Playschool reopens
January 13 -17: Re-enrollment for the 2014-2015 school year for current children. We also welcome siblings of current Playschool kids or POP Students.
Tuesday, January 21: Registration is open to POP Church Members.
Thursday, January 23: Registration is open to the public.
Registration fee is $100.00 per child and is non-refundable. Please contact, Kara Woodard at 205.822.9125 for more information or to schedule a tour.
Wednesday Dinners Join us at 5:30 pm in Deasy Hall for dinner. Adults $4, children $2, those under 5 eat free. Dinners resume January 8. Come for a delicious meal and fellowship. All are welcome!

Middle School Youth
Middle School Youth Group is looking for adult volunteers. Volunteers are needed 1-2 times a month on Wednesdays from 5:30 -7:30 pm. For more information, please contact Kirsten Ellard at 205.901.7337 or [email protected].

ZUMBA classes are on Tuesdays at 6:15 pm in Deasy Hall. Feel free to bring a friend; the ZUMBA program
is open to the public, ages 13 & up. (Ages 13-17 may only attend with a participating adult.) No childcare is provided. Cost is $3 at the door. Our next Zumba classes will be Tuesdays: January 7, 21, and 28.
Breast Cancer Survivors Our next meeting will be Tuesday, January 14 at 7:00 pm in the St. Catherine Room. If you have any questions, please call Bette Graffeo at 205.822.9125.
Seniors Lunch The Seniors Lunch will be held Tuesday, January 21. Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am followed by lunch and bingo at 11:30 in the Deasy Hall. Cost is $6.00 per person. Please RSVP by calling the parish office at 205.822.9125.

The arguments about Embryonic Stem Cells are basically over; no single human has been helped by them in over 30 years of research. The entirely ethical alternatives of Adult Stem Cells (from bone marrow, blood, fat, etc.) are already helping around 60,000 people each year around the world. Progress has been made in fine-tuning Pluripotent Stem Cells developed explicityly as an alternative to taking stem cells by killing embryonic humans.
A U.S. strike against Syria appeared imminent an unstoppable, but the U.S. population opposed it vociferously and it was stopped. The presidents of Iran and the United States spoke by telephone for the first time in over 30 years, and diplomacy seems to be working well in that case. U.S. President Obama announced in June cutting 1/3 of the current U.S. nuclear weapons arsenal. Kenyan elections, a cause for riots several years ago, went relatively peacefully this year, a testament to the hard work of peacemakers there. (Consistent Life web page, issue #188 11.29.13)

Shared Blessings We are currently in need of a 2 high chairs, 5 twin beds or mattresses, kitchen table that seats 6, 6 kitchen chairs, 2 size 6 boys winter coats, silverware, pots & pans, sheets of all sizes, dishes, and blankets. On Sunday, January 12, a group from Prince of Peace will serve lunch to the needy at
the Church of the Reconciler. Volunteers are needed to provide food and desserts and

Stewardship: Parishioners Answering God’s Call A parishioner with 2 young children recently returned to work after an extended leave of absence. She had a history of volunteer work at Prince of Peace, but now found that she had little time and flexibility with her schedule. She still wanted to be involved somehow and came up with the perfect solution. She volunteered to send hospitality cards as a part of the Shared Blessings Ministry. She sends notes of thanks to those who generously donate items to those in need and she sends notes of encouragement to those receiving the items to let them know that the Prince of Peace family is keeping them in our prayers.
