With the River Shannon as a unifying focal point, UL is situated on a state-

of-the-art, 133-hectare campus. Our unrivalled recreational, cultural and

sporting facilities further enhance the UL experience and make the univer-

sity environment among the very best there is anywhere in the world. UL is

an easy-to-navigate campus, located five kilometres from Limerick city and

20 kilometres from Shannon International Airport.

“ My name is John Davitt and I graduated from Law Plus in 2013. I

was attracted to Law Plus because it allows you to supplement a

traditional law degree with electives from a broad spectrum of dis-

ciplines. This option to explore other interests, while still studying

the requisite subjects examined in the Law Society entrance exams

was the primary reason I chose this course. I was able to avail of

modules in Politics and Sociology in addition to my core legal mod-

ules and I feel this gave me a broader education and enriched my

university experience.

The course was very intellectually stimulating, varied and dynamic. In addi-

tion to typical class-room based lectures, we got the opportunity to use the

Moot Court, a replica of a real-life court. This was particularly enjoyable,

and implemented a practical element into the course.

After graduating from UL, I pursued a Masters degree at the London School

of Economics. I subsequently worked as a Parliamentary Assistant at the

UK House of Lords and in September 2015, I will commence a training con-

tract at Matheson, a top law firm in Dublin.

I believe the exceptionally strong reputation UL enjoys in the academic and

professional world facilitated these opportunities. The strong legal founda-

tion and skills I acquired at UL made the progression to post-graduate

study as seamless as possible, and left me well-equipped to enter the pro-

fessional legal environment.

legal studies and refine your knowledge of the wider world.

These include Psychology, German, English, Maths, Politics,

Gaeilge, Public Administration, History, French, Economics, New

During the first half of Year 3, an eight-month period of Cooper-

knowledge that you have already acquired. Normally this will

take the form of a work placement. It is possible to complete

this placement abroad or alternatively, to study law through an

exchange programme with one of our partner law schools

worldwide.

During Year 4, you will take Advanced Lawyering modules that

involve a variety of practically focussed activities such as writing

a research article, undertaking a moot trial, working in a busi-

ness law clinic and participating in a conveyancing scenario.

The study of law is an enriching educational experience that provides intellectual stimula-

tion and an exposure to decision-making and argumentative skills. The Law Plus programme

allows you to choose elective subjects in areas including Politics, History, Psychology, Sociol-

ogy, Economics, Maths, Irish World Music and Dance and languages. You can therefore ex-

pect to have a wide variety of options open to you upon graduation.

Law Plus places significant emphasis on the development of practical legal skills including

oral and written communication skills, analytical and logical reasoning skills, negotiation,

legal research, organisational and team work skills, particularly through the Lawyering Skills

modules. The state-of-the-art courtroom is utilised throughout the programme to develop

these skills and ensure our graduates are equipped to deal with the realities of working in a

legal environment. However, these skills are transferable and are of great benefit, even to

those who choose a career outside of law.
