Operation SmileJoin the Campaign for Children’s Smiles! Every three minutes a child is born with a cleft lip or cleft palate. Since 1982, Operation Smile has provided hundreds of thousands of free surgeries for children from more than 60 countries. In 2018, GFWC will be sponsoring a medical mission with Operation Smile to provide surgeries for children who would otherwise not have access to them. GFWC will also give a few clubwomen the chance to witness this life changing experience first-hand! Clubs donating $500 or more to Operation Smile will be entered into a GFWC sponsored drawing. For each $500 increment donated, clubs will receive an additional entry into the drawing. Winning clubs will be able to give one member the opportunity to participate in a self-funded Operation Smile Medical Mission in Central America! Clubs may participate in this campaign through October 31, 2017. The GFWC drawing will take place on November 8 with clubs being notified of their selection by November 15. Contact Victoria Rusu-Ebert at [email protected] for more information.

GFWC Jennie AwardThe GFWC Jennie Award honors one clubwoman from each GFWC region for outstanding commitment to club, community, and family. Nominees are chosen by their clubs to compete at state, regional, and national levels for their outstanding personal commitment to club, community, and family.

The GFWC Jennie Award is named in honor of GFWC’s founder, Jane Cunningham Croly, who wrote for national newspapers under the pseudonym, “Jennie June.” The award highlights those extraordinary clubwomen who epitomize her spirit of independence, courage, and persistence in purpose through their roles as volunteers within their clubs, elsewhere in the community, and as members of a family or extended family. Although GFWC has many awards for states and clubs, the GFWC Jennie Award is the only national honor that recognizes individual members for personal excellence. In fact, it is the highest honor bestowed by GFWC.

GFWC AwardsState Federations, clubs, and individual members are eligible to compete for awards, participate in contests, and apply for grants. Complete details for each GFWC competition are listed in the GFWC Club Manual in the Awards, Contest, and Grants sections. Also, included in the Club Manual are contest rules, tips for winning entries, and judging criteria.

State Federation awards are based on the membership category, which is determined by the number of individual dues-paying members in each state.

Get ready for 2018 by considering clubwomen and projects eligible for the GFWC Jennie and Community Improvement Program awards.

Community Improvement Program AwardOur longest standing project, the Community Improvement Program Award is the heart and soul of GFWC and aims to meet the needs of individual communities. The Community Improvement Program Award provides a vision for the future of the relationships between clubs and their communities.

GFWC CommunicationsJoin the GFWC Juniorette InstagramGFWC has launched an Instragram site focusing on Juniorettes with the goal of sharing project ideas, applauding achievements, and motivating others to become members. Instagram is an online mobile photo-sharing, video-sharing, and social networking service that enables its users to take pictures, and share them via the app. All content on the app will relate to our Juniorette members as they are often less prominently featured in our other social media and print publications.

If you would like the Juniorette club you sponsor to be featured on the site, please send a photograph of a recent project or event as well as a short caption (100 words or less) to the GFWC Communica-tions and Public Relations staff at [email protected].

GFWC LEGISLATIVE ACTION CENTERFrom the start, the goal of the Legislative Action Center (LAC) has been to provide GFWC members with everything they need to be effective advocates. Members have used the LAC to track bills, contact their elected representatives, and take action on issues relevant to GFWC Resolutions.

Thanks to your immense interest in the Legislative Action Center, GFWC has expanded the program. Today, the LAC is available for use by individual State Federations. State Federations may employ the LAC to urge members to contact elected officials on state-specific legislative issues in several areas of concern to GFWC including: GFWC Signature Program: Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention, the Juniors’ Special Program: Advocates for Children, and the Public Issues Community Service Program.

Subscribe to the GFWC Legislative Action Center mailing list by logging on to www.gfwc.org. Provide us with your email address and we’ll let you know about upcoming engagements.
