RESTAURANT
How does Lindsay C. Stone, Meritage Hospitality Group director of
marketing, describe the Twisted Rooster dining concept? A few phrases come
to mind: American fare with a twist, community involvement, locally sourced
menu, scratch-made recipes—and, of course, Commit to the Mitt!
The corporate executive chef and Twister Rooster culinary team aren’t
shy about their commitment to working with local vendors and suppliers,
incorporating the freshest ingredients into their from-scratch, locally
influenced and sourced, seasonal menus. They don’t just love local: They
live it. They take great pride in providing each guest with “Uncommon
Hospitality” and a truly unique dining experience. Twisted Rooster supports
its surrounding communities through local events and philanthropic
endeavors.
Twisted Rooster is local. Some of its (frequently West) Michigan suppliers
are Bell’s Brewery, Byron Center Meats, Chateau Grand Traverse Winery,
Del Bene Produce, Drake’s Batter Mix Company, Ebel’s Meats, Faygo,
Founders Brewing, Hudsonville Ice Cream, Meadowland Honey, Mrs. Dog’s
Products, New Holland Brewing, Pioneer Sugar, RW Bakers, Sander’s Fine
Chocolatiers, and Superior Foods.
Twister Rooster hosts special events throughout the year, all involving
local organizations. It frequently hosts tap-takeovers with local breweries,
the chef creates Michigan beer and wine dinners, and dozens of promotions
are offered. (“Like” the restaurant’s Facebook page or join its E-Mail club
to get the low-down on all of its special events.) The Roo, as fans often refer
to it, also offers daily specials that draw a crowd. Visit www.twisted-rooster.
com to learn more. The restaurant also features drop-and-go, and full-service
catering, for outside festivities and events.
From the start, Twister Rooster has attracted attention—and created a
taste for—signature menu items, such as its twisted take on Tater Tots, maple
mustard fried pickles, Twisted House Salad, Twisted Mac & Cheese, fish
tacos, sweet & spicy Reuben, and campfire cheesecake. The menu runs the
twisted gamut from appetizers, to full entrees, to desserts, and there’s a menu
for Little Roos, too.

communities. “Our restaurant is so much more than just
food; it’s about creating a versatile, yet family-friendly—and
affordable—dining experience. We love getting out into the
community and formulating relationships with the communities
that have given so much back to us over the years. We are
looking forward to many more years in West Michigan!”
The restaurant is proud of stimulating the economy through
partnerships with other local businesses through chamber
participation, collaboration at events, and extensive involvement
with LocalFirst. In 2013, Twisted Rooster (and partner
Crooked Goose) sponsored LocalFirst Eat Local Challenge, and
participated in the annual Forkfest, Local Motion Awards, and
LocalFirst Street Party; it also participated in more than forty
events directly supporting the community.
In the past several months alone, Twisted Rooster donated
time to Dwelling Place, Habitat for Humanity, Kids Food
Basket, March of Dimes, VanAndel Institute, and other
influential community organizations. Twisted Rooster supports
higher education through strong partnerships with Cornerstone
University and Grand Valley State University. It has a steady
presence through other partnerships and extensive media
relations and exposure. West Michigan has rallied around the
Twisted Rooster concept, to the tune of endless loyal fans and
nearly 7,800 Facebook admirers.
“Twisted Rooster is incredibly honored to have the opportunity
to give back to such a wonderful community,” Stone said. “We
look forward to what the future brings and are excited for further
growth in the Grand Rapids community!” WMW
