How Do You Deliver Love? There are plenty of boxes and bags filled with sweets this time of year in just about every grocery store: elegant assortments of truffles, paper Valentines with attached lollipops for kindergarteners to share with friends, and of course, classic little boxes of chalky hearts printed with sweet phrases. Did you know that those little candies have been around since 1866? It has been more than a few years since I exchanged Valentines with a group of friends in class, but I got to thinking about all the ways that adults deliver love.

The single rose tentatively given by a blushing young gentleman to his crush develops at some point into a dozen roses presented at the apartment door on date night. Certainly, those flowers are signs of blossoming love, but what about the love that is delivered invisibly? The moment when a busy parent suddenly stops in the middle of a sidewalk to tie their little guy’s shoes might just look like a quick interruption to a fast walk, but the gesture is full of love. The person who takes time to stop and chat with their elderly neighbor over the fence often slows down and smiles extra wide as they make small talk, peppering that conversation with sweet friendship and a bit of love. Every time a dog gets a new collar or a kitty is snatched up and plunked on a warm lap… love, right there. When voices sing “Happy Birthday” in off-key harmony there is love in the air; each time volunteers turn up for a local blood drive or drop boxed goods into to a food donation bin; every time a treasured photo is gently dusted and put back in its place on the mantle, there is love in all of those moments.

Whether your Valentine comes in the form of a small card printed with superheroes and is ripped from a perforated sheet of similar notes, or looks more like a night out with friends that just happens to include a slice of cake with extra forks, love is in the air.

My friend, may you be surrounded by true love this February and throughout the year!

Can those who are newly immigrated to Canada expect to be able to buy a home?We have an extra special guest, Silas, all the way from Kenya to join us on the Inside Track today.Silas, as I think about how tough it was for Ken and I get started in buying our first home, I recognize that for some, it’s even harder. It’s getting harder and harder with the increasing interest rates. If the interest rates aren’t up, the prices are up. On today’s show, we’re going to learn what it takes for someone who is an immigrant to Canada to actually buy their first home. Silas, what does it take for someone to own their first home when they haven’t always lived here? How is that different?Thank you for bringing me on board. When we talked about moving from Kenya and coming to Canada, it was a bit of a challenge. When we first arrived, rents were high. My quick thought was I can’t do this forever. Right away, I started looking into the possibilities of owning a home and being able to have the deposit needed to secure a mortgage. It looked elusive, but I believe if you work hard enough, you achieve. You came to Canada with a university degree, you were well educated, you had a great position already in Kenya and you relocated to Canada to be with your wife. The schooling and job that you had there, did that as-sure you an amazing job in Canada? Not necessarily. Coming into Canada as a microbiologist wasn’t as easy to transition as I expected. My first job in Canada was actually with McDonald’s downtown, which was tough. I was earning minimum wage, having huge rent to pay and thinking about owning a home. I want to thank Canada for being a land of opportunities. If you know your steps, then you’re able to walk through it.

Complimentary ColoursFebruary 6th is international Pay-a-Compliment day! Sure, it can be embarrassing for some to openly talk to a stranger, but if you think about the extra bounce you feel in your step when someone pays you a compliment, it might give you the motivation to glance around for someone who could use a bit of recognition.

Look for the most introverted person in the room and see how fast you can make them smile. After all, kindness is free, and you can change someone’s entire day just by reaching out to them. Are you the sort of person who walks right up and talks to anyone? Try to double your kind comments today and hand out a few compliments to people who might not normally be on your list for small talk. Or, hang on to this idea and try to give out a compliment every day in February.

We’re excited to be your partners moving forward. We do things together as a family. We do things together with our clients because together, we’ve got this!

My someone beautiful is an incredible person who means the world to me. My someone beautiful has gone through a lot in life and is the bravest person I know. My beautiful person is my dad and he’s the best dad. Even though my dad has been through a lot, he always finds a place in his huge heart to love people. He has an amazing personality and he’s excellent at his job. When I grow up, I want to be just like him first. My dad is my someone beautiful because he has a huge heart. My someone beautiful has been through a lot. For example, his childhood, when he was little, his parents divorced and his mother got remarried to an awful man. My dad’s stepdad abused him and his mother. He was put in foster care at the age of nine. My dad had it hard when it comes to relationships, but he put that all aside and focused on the new relationship with his family. My dad has a huge heart because even though he struggled with relationships, he still was open to make a new one. Secondly, my dad is my someone beautiful because he’s the best in construction. He made his own successful company called Solid Rock Renos, and they make tables, fix ceilings, make decks, make houses and repair floors and walls. My dad wakes up early to make sure he gets the job done. My dad makes sure he understands his employees and they understand him, so they’re on the same page and everything gets done. My dad has a great personality, so that helps as well when he’s working. Thirdly, my father has a great personality. He’s kind, caring, joyful, confident, loving, and is such a goofball. My dad is so kind and caring. He congratulates me when I get good marks and listens to me when I have a bad day. My dad is so confident in himself. He always thinks he’s gonna win and if he doesn’t, he won’t forgive himself until he does. He always loves to make the whole family laugh or anyone who listened to him as he has great stories. He taught me many things. In conclusion,my father has gone through a lot. He has a great personality and is such a gift. My dad is a great boss in the industry. My dad is an incredible person who I love with all my heart. He’s my someone beautiful.Angelica had the privilege of choosing a second someone beautiful to share a poem about. My someone beautiful is a marvelous person who has unconditional love.My someone beautiful has a huge heart and is the kindest person I know. My someone beautiful is my mom and she is the best one I could ever wish for. Even though my mom has a busy career, she always sets aside time to spend with our family. She’s a warrior. She has a wonderful personality and is a fantastic Realtor and owner of Solid Rock Realty. My mom has an amazing personality and is incredible at her career and she is my best friend, and the most beautiful person in the world to me. Firstly, my mom is my someone beautiful because she has a great personality. She’s kind, caring, loving, thoughtful, and most of all compassionate. My mom is very thoughtful. For example, she buys me a stuffy each time I have surgery. My mom is also really kind. She invited a family of six to come stay with us when they were looking for a house. My mom has a terrific personality and is incredible at her career. Secondly, my mom is my someone beautiful because she’s incredible at being an owner and Realtor of Solid Rock Realty. She helps people sell and buy houses, apartments and rental properties. My mom is super nice to all of them. My mom doesn’t have a set schedule when she needs to work. Her job is kind of all over the place. My mom is always focused and makes sure her assistant understands so everything goes through. My mom is a great multi-tasker, which when you’re a Realtor, comes in handy. My mom is a magnificent career woman and she’s also my best friend. My mom is my someone beautiful because she is my best friend. My mom is also always there when I need her and she’s the absolute best listener. When I need someone to talk to, when I need a hug, I know I can get comfort from her. When I’m feeling down, my mom’s always there to cheer me. When I’m lonely, I always depend on her to be on my side. My mom is a wonderful friend. In conclusion, my mother has such a loving personality. She’s a fantastic owner, Realtor and an incredible friend. My mom is a marvelous person too. I love her with all my heart.

Someone Beautiful to Move You ForwardDo you believe everyone is beautiful? Today’s show is about seeing the beauty in others and we have an additional family member joining us for the Inside Track! Three generations of women; Yetta, Candice and Angelica.Last year, Angelica’s teacher asked the entire class to write an essay or a story about someone beautiful in their life. We thought we would let Angelica share the poem that she wrote in grade five when she was 10 years old.

Moving Forward Together....because TOGETHER we’ve got this

The first people we call...My husband and I met the Dekkers because we were living in Winnipeg and we had to move to Ottawa for my husband’s job. So we looked online and found their mission statement on their website, at the time and that was 10 years ago. Really liked what they had to say, their philosophy about selling houses. They are a wealth of information and when we need advice on buying, selling and real esate they are definitely the first people we call.

ABCs of 20/20 Vision Living; Awake Braver Consistently Have you ever gone to bed knowing that tomorrow you’re going to wake even greater?

Sometimes I go to bed and I think tomorrow’s going to be a better day. I’m going to be a better person. I’m going to be braver. I’m going to have more energy. More gumption. Then I wake up with even less gumption. What’s that about? I wonder if it has to do with our bedtime reset and our morning routine. We are going to give you tips and techniques on how to start and end your day on a positive note.

2020 vision living has been on my mind a lot because this is the decade of the roaring twenties. What do I have to do in the morning to get going? One of the techniques we use is the five, four, three, two, one. It’s warm under there, but there’s so much life to be had. I say five, four, three, two, one out loud, then jump out of bed. Another thing we do is to put a big sticky note right beside the bed with our morning on it. I also love visioning. At the ROAR Canada Mastermind coming up in February, it’s about getting braver and it’s about 2020 vision living.

2020 vision. What do you really see when you look into the mirror? Have you ever been surprised by what’s looking back at you?

You look in the mirror to do your makeup or brush your teeth, or to make sure you don’t have anything in your teeth. But if you don’t really look at yourself for 40 years, you can walk away not remembering what you look like.

Our guest Virginia, told us that when her son, now 25, was a little guy, three years old, he would be mad about something. She would take him to the mirror and stand him up on the vanity and say repeat after me... “I feel healthy, I feel happy, I feel great”. He would look in the mirror with a look of anger still in his face and say “I feel healthy”. By the third, fourth, fifth time, depending on the day, he would start giggling and laughing and it was such a joy.

I start the day with answering the statement “I celebrate you for...”. I’d look in the mirror and say, “Yetta, I celebrate you for doing five, four, three, two, one and getting out of bed like a rocket ship this morning, even if it made Ken cold”. I would do that seven times, and I still do it from time to time. The second one was, “Yetta, I forgive you for”. Then the last piece was, “Yetta, I commit to you” and state whatever I was committing to for the day. Maybe one is best for you because it lets you narrow in and really own that one thing. Even if it’s one, that’s 365 a year.

What I’m going to leave you with today is, if you’re happy, tell your face. Ken says that to me all the time.
