Advisory Board of Governors (ABOG) Update by Joe Roy, President2018 Critical Challenges• Managing Growth

This is the most important focus for ABOG as we work with The Club to ensure that facilities and events can accommodate a growing membership. Included in these challenges are:

• Resolving the space issue in fitness classes, pool complex and beach

• Consistent enforcement of Club Rules and Regulations

2018 Objective• Improve the member experience one day at a time:

Member feedback is a critical part of each Committee’s work as improvements are made in quality, service, and total outcomes. We are aware that there are times when the outcome of a member experience does not match the expectation, or that rules and regulations are not applied consistently. Please know that The Club Management, Staff, and ABOG are committed to continuous improvement in all areas of The Club. Below are summaries of Committee progress:

• Food & Beverage

• New menus for Delfinos, Atlantic Grill, Ocean Bar and Lodge Pool/Beach service will be in place before the high season kicks off Memorial Day weekend.

• Several more wine dinners and liquor and beer tasting’s are planned for the remainder of the year. Expect to see changes to Cooking with the Chefs, and the committee is looking for new ideas for Tea Service.

• New menus for our member events are being developed and will include vegetarian options.

• Sports & Leisure

• Tennis

An AED device is currently located in the pro shop. An outside case has been purchased and is being mounted to store the AED after the pro shop has closed.

Fence repairs and root intrusion are being addressed.

• Pools & Spa

Five (5) new cabanas have been ordered – 3 for the Fantasy Pool complex and 2 for the Lodge Pool. Plans are being developed to offer 15 or 30-minute mini-massages during prime time at the Lodge Pool in the new cabanas.

Leaks in family pool and large group hot tub have been repaired including repair of all underwater lights. Engineering waiting on parts

to repair heaters in family pool. Until repairs are made, children will be allowed to use the heated adult pool.

Pool resurfacing and tile repair will be discussed during the 2019 budget process.

Repairs to the Fantasy Pool music system should be completed soon.

Membership cards need to be shown when entering the pool complex, and random checks will be made throughout the day. Anyone without a membership card will be asked to leave.

Pool Staff will be enforcing a no seat saving policy. Towels and personal possessions will be removed from chairs that go one hour without use.

Bar and kitchen at the Lodge Pool are now open.

• Fitness Instructors now take attendance at all classes in the Mind/Body app. Please be sure to cancel reservations in a timely manner so

that the wait list can be cleared.

Changes to the fitness class schedule or start times is deferred until April.

The floor entrance to both the Spa and Fitness Center was professionally cleaned due damage caused by water line break. Great work by The Club and Committee!

• Golf Final Member-Member Tourney preparations have been completed with the HB Golf Team. A “Local Rules” document has been

drafted by the Committee and will be implemented during the M-M Tourney.

Preliminary task planning for the April Ladies Invitational has been completed with the HB team.

Data gathering for the Conservatory White Tee individual hole Handicap ratings has begun.

The Committee is working closely with Brad & team on improving Pace of Play and the Score Posting Process

• Summary Please remember that ABOG’s role is to provide input to members and Club Management on programs, plans and activities, and

to advise on the Club’s policies, rules and regulations. We work alongside our Club Management Partners to identify opportunities to restore the Membership benefits and experiences to pre-hurricane levels as well. There is a continued commitment by The Club to making needed repairs to all assets on the property, applying Club rules and regulations consistently, and to improving quality and customer service for all members and resort guests. Much work remains, however, we can agree that many repairs and improvements have been made in the past 12 months throughout The Club. We see the physical improvements as well as scores from event survey responses. Thanks to the work of the Committees and The Club, we are improving the member experience one day at a time! Thank you to all Members for your patience, understanding, and support for the work of ABOG and The Club in helping to achieve our 2018 objective.

Dear Members:We had a good Control Burn on Thursday, March 8. Club Member, Mary Kay Ulsamer, recorded a video of the burn using her drone. Here is the footage to view:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWipY2t49Rc&feature=youtu.be

Please be advised that the county has begun restoring the dune line in our Hammock Beach area. The first stage of the restoration project will start at the Lodge walk over bridge and will continue North into the Mala Compra area. Once completed, work will then begin on the south side of our property working back to the walk over bridge of the Lodge. This schedule is subject to change and we will continue to update the status as the dune restoration project continues.

Golf tip Hitting out of a divot by Jeff Hager, Golf Professional

When you hit a great drive and get up to your ball to find it in the middle of a divot, don’t worry, it is not the end of the world. In this video I will show you the ins and outs of how to successfully hit this shot and hopefully end up on the green.

Eating Right for a Healthy WeightBy Donna M Gialone, Personal Trainer/Spin Instructor/Nutrition Educator

Reaching and maintaining a healthier weight contributes to your overall health, energy level and well-being. Losing even a few pounds or preventing further weight gain has numerous health benefits. Are you ready to make changes in your lifestyle and move toward a healthier weight? I want to emphasize that eating healthy is a lifestyle change. Think of eating right as a lifelong work in progress, never a quick fix; be realistic with your health goals, set yourself up for success and not failure; eat high fiber foods ‘first’ with every meal and snack; be a bit more mindful, it isn’t that hard – think about what you ate yesterday and what you have going on tomorrow, this will help you decide what to eat or not eat today.

Eat Healthfully and Enjoy It A healthy eating plan that helps you manage your weight includes a variety of foods you may not have considered. If “healthy eating” makes you think about the foods you can’t have, try refocusing on all the new foods you can eat—

Fresh, Frozen, or Canned Fruits Don’t think just apples or bananas. All fresh, frozen, or canned fruits are great choices. Be sure to try fruits like mango, pineapple or kiwi fruit. When your favorite fresh fruits aren’t in season, try a frozen, canned, or dried variety of a fresh fruit you enjoy. Be cautious about canned fruits they may contain added sugars or syrups. Choose canned varieties of fruit packed in water or in their own juice.

Fresh, Frozen, or Canned VegetablesTry something new. You may find that you love grilled, sauté, or steamed vegetables with an herb you haven’t tried like rosemary. Commit to going to the produce department and trying a new vegetable each week.

A new twist on an old favorite If your favorite recipe calls for frying fish or breaded chicken, try healthier variations using baking or grilling. Try a recipe

that uses dry beans in place of higher-fat meats. Ask around or search the internet and magazines for recipes with fewer calories you might be surprised to find you have a new favorite dish!

Do I have to give up my favorite comfort food? -- No! Healthy eating is all about balance. You can enjoy your favorite foods even if they are high in calories, fat or added sugars. The key is eating them only once in a while and balancing them out with healthier foods and more physical activity. If you normally eat these foods every day, cut back to once a week or once a month. You’ll be cutting calories because you’re not having the food as often.

Try a lower-calorie version. Use lower-calorie ingredients or prepare food differently. For example, if your macaroni and cheese recipe calls for whole milk, butter, and full-fat cheese, try remaking it with non-fat milk, less butter, light cream cheese, fresh spinach and tomatoes.

The point is, you can figure out how to include almost any food in your healthy eating plan in a way that still helps you lose weight or maintain a healthy weight.
