MASS SCHEDULE

We can pray that the divisions and hatreds will be resolved through the wisdom that is the gift
of God. We pray for an increase of wise men and women who are attuned to the signs of God
drawing them to join together in worship and live together in peace. The ultimate destination of all people is to arrive in the presence of God. Matthew’s tale is less a story of adventurous seekers than of a luring God, drawing others into the mystery of divinity through the birth of Jesus. A star that guides and wise words that explain are what help lead the magi to their destination. Natural signs and words of revelation are what God works through in our own day to bring us into the presence of Jesus, the Son of God.
The story of the wise men is a journey that surrounds the birth of Jesus. It speaks to all seeking God in today’s world. God does not use force to attract others. Angels speak a message of joy for all but give no orders that insist that the shepherds journey through the dark of night to worship. A star appears in the sky but no one forces these astrologers to pack up some gifts and make their way across foreign terrain to kneel and prostrate themselves and do Jesus homage.
At the heart of this story is the message announced in the letter to the Ephesians: God’s plan was that everyone be included in the mystery of salvation, that, along with the children of Abraham, “the Gentiles are coheirs, members of the same body, and copartners in the promise in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 3:6). God wants everyone to share in divine life—everyone! Give it your thoughtful consideration.

JOURNEY TOWARD GOD
In our celebration of the Epiphany, two interwoven themes are present in the readings today. God is beginning something new, and God gathers all of humanity to participate. For Isaiah, God’s bright light, manifested in the people of Israel, attracts and summons people from many nations to Jerusalem. In the letter to the Ephesians, God’s grace makes the Gentiles co-heirs and co-partners in the gospel. Matthew tells the story of the fulfillment of God’s promises to Israel through the birth of Jesus, and simultaneously leading foreigners to share in these same promises. With the birth of Jesus, God chose a particular people, in a particular time and place, to enter most directly into the human story. Today’s readings teach that God did this in order to gather all people, all cultures, into unity with God. Like the magi, we are drawn into a journey toward God, becoming co-partners in God’s work.

Sacramental Preparation
The Sacrament of Baptism is often called "The door of the Church," because it is the first of the seven sacraments not only in time (since most Catholics receive it as infants) but in priority, since the reception of the other sacraments depends on it. It is the first of the three Sacraments of Initiation, the other two being the Sacrament of Holy Communion and the Sacrament of Confirmation. Once baptized, a person becomes a member of the Church.
In order to have your child baptized at Holy Ghost Catholic Church the following must be done:
You must be registered member(s) of Holy Ghost Church
Parents and Godparents must attend a Baptism Seminar which is offered online at hgchurch.org
Complete the Child Information form and submit it at least a month prior to the baptism
Godparents must complete their respective forms and have their church parish sign-off on their form
For any other questions or concerns, please contact: Trisha Labbe (985) 345-3360, ext. 28.

"To go in haste. This does not mean to proceed with agitation, in a hurried manner, no, it does not mean this. Instead, it means conducting our days with a joyful step,
looking ahead with confidence, without dragging our feet, as slaves to complaints – these complaints ruin so many lives, because one starts complaining and complaining, and life
drains away. Complaining leads you always to look for someone to blame… So, let us ask ourselves, for our
benefit: how is my “step”? Am I proactive or do I linger in melancholy, in sadness? Do I move forward with hope or do I stop and feel sorry for myself? If we proceed with the tired
step of grumbling and talking, we will not bring God to anyone, we will only bring bitterness and dark things."

COME PRAY THE ROSARY
Join us in honoring our beloved Mother, Mary, by
reciting the Rosary on Sundays 25 minutes before Mass.
Mary’s motherhood made it possible for many of God’s blessings to come to us. Now, in Mary’s Son, God’s face shines upon us. God’s personal love is made visible. Mary gave a body to God’s beloved son; and at the Last Supper, Jesus gave us His Body and Blood in the gift of the Eucharist.
Through Mary’s motherhood, God physically entered human history. He became a visible part of the real world. A few years ago, Jennifer Morse wrote the following about motherhood,
“When I needed to stay home with my children, I knew for sure that I was going to be completely severed from the real world. After all, the real world is out there somewhere, the world of jobs and
money and competition and struggle… Nevertheless… after lots of ordinary mom stuff, it dawned on me: ‘This is the real world… The real world is at home. This is where people are born and grow up. At home, people get sick and get better. Home is where people love, where they fight, where the kiss and make up and love some more, and ultimately where they die. There really is no world as
real as home.”
The reality of God’s personal love is made tangible and visible through Mary’s motherhood. When St. Paul tells us in Galatians (4:4ff), “God sent His Son, born of a woman…” he’s talking about Jesus entering the real world you and I know, a world that He entered through Mary.
So, today, we praise God for Mary’s motherhood, which made possible the gift of His only Son. We thank Jesus for receiving the gift of his body from Mary and for handing it over to us through the holy sacrifice of the Eucharist. And as we thank God for Mary’s motherhood, we thank Him, too, for all Moms, who make possible many of the most tangible expressions of the love of God.
—Excerpt from text from Bishop Olmsted’s homily for the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God.- https://dphx.org/holy-mary-mother-of-god/
Mary, Holy Mother of God
With gladness, we celebrate the motherhood of Mary. The Virgin Mary was blessed by God in many ways. She was
conceived without sin and preserved without fault all her life; truly she is “full of grace.” At the moment that Mary fell asleep in death, she was assumed body and soul into heaven. She
was crowned Queen of heaven and earth. She is, as Elizabeth said, “blessed among women.” Even Mary herself said: “All generations shall call me blessed; for He who is mighty
has done great things for me. And holy is His Name.” Our Lady recognized that her motherhood was a great blessing
from the Lord.
It is not surprising then that many artists represent Mary with the Child Jesus in her arms. For that is truly a great honor. It is also our greatest hope, for Mary holds in her arms the Savior of
the world, who takes away the sins of all mankind.
Rise up in splendor, Jerusalem! Your light has come, the glory of the Lord shines upon you.
