MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents, Caregivers, Students and Staff,
Congratulations and thankyou to everyone for a
highly successful Term 1. There have been a
number of new initiatives and programs that
the school has initiated this year and
indicators are that the student learning
programs will be enhanced as a result.
As I indicated to you last year the school has
received an additional $680,000.00 through
the Federal Government’s National Partnership
(NP). This significant amount of money is to be
used to develop programs that will improve
student learning outcomes. After a very
rigorous evaluation of school based data two of
the areas that were most in need are literacy
and community engagement.
This term we have implemented a very detailed
and intensive three year professional learning
program to improve student literacy skills. All
students from Year 1 – 6 have had their
reading fluency and comprehension assessed
individually using a standard process and we
look forward to reporting their progress over
the year.
The school has also tried to engage more
effectively with parents and caregivers. The
NP funding has allowed us to employ a
Community Liaison Officer (CLO), two days per
week. Mrs Naffa (Maysoun) is at school
Monday and Friday and works with ALL
parents. She has organised parent programs
that run almost every Monday with sessions
being held in English and Arabic.
Last week we held our first parent teacher
conferences for 2012 and it was great to see
so many of you throughout the year. The
teachers have said that they really enjoyed
meeting with parents/caregivers and that
spreading the conferences over the week
meant more time could be spent with you.
Please let us know if you found this more
valuable. Thank you for taking the time to work
with us in educating your children.
School holidays begin on Thursday so I ask

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
It has been wonderful to hear the positive comments about our new
shade structure in the playground. This new space gives students
more shade options in the playground and also allows the
playground to be used for outdoor learning throughout the day.
On Thursday 1 November I attended the premiere of films made by
students of Liverpool Public School at the Casula Powerhouse Arts
Centre. It was a wonderful experience for the staff and students. I
was impressed by the students’ work and am sure that we have one
or two budding Steven Speilbergs in our midst! The films will be
uploaded to our YouTube channel for all of our community to enjoy.
The link is available on the school website or the films can be found
at www.youtube.com/channel/UC0r1Wq1E1YIj0lEe6vN1K2A/
We have begun the process of planning class structures for 2019.
Schools are allocated staff based on the number of students in
attendance. That means students need to be at school from the
beginning of the school year to be counted. If you are planning on
travelling during the summer holiday and may miss the beginning of
the new school year, please make sure you give the school office
details of your travel arrangements and a copy of your flight details
before you leave.
Sunday 11 November marks the 100th anniversary of the end of
World War One. This tragic era touched the lives of people all over
the world. Liverpool Public School will be commemorating this event
on Friday 9 November. Further information will be sent home closer
to the date. Liverpool City Council has events planned which can be
found on their website and I encourage all our families to take a look

Finally, huge congratulations to Leona Paye in 5/6M for her
outstanding efforts at the State Athletics Championships. Leona
made it to the semi-final in 100m and ended up placing 18th in the
state.

LIVERPOOL CITY COUNCIL AQUATIC AND LEISURE STRATEGY Liverpool City Council is currently developing an Aquatic and Leisure Centres Strategy. They are seeking feedback from the community on their experience of using the services and facilities of our existing centres. These include:
Whitlam Leisure Centre - 90 Memorial Ave, Liverpool.
Michael Wenden Aquatic Leisure Centre - 62 Cabramatta Ave, Miller
Michael Clarke Recreation Centre - 2 Margaret Dawson Dr, Carnes Hill
Holsworthy Aquatic Centre - 26 Huon Cres, Holsworthy They have an online survey on Liverpool Listens, please provide your feedback here. The survey closes on 11 November. A hard copy survey is also available upon request. If you or your family and friends have used our centres we’d like feedback on:
The services and condition of aquatic or indoor sport and fitness facilities or programs at the existing centres
Whether the existing aquatic or indoor sport and fitness facilities or programs meet all the community’s needs
Whether there are any aquatic or indoor sport and fitness activities that you would like to do but can't
What additional aquatic or indoor sport and fitness facilities are needed This will not be the last opportunity to provide feedback. Once the Strategy is drafted it will be placed on public exhibition at which time we’ll invite further comment. For further information about the Aquatic and Leisure Centres Strategy please contact Dany Ngov, Policy and Projects Officer from Liverpool City Council on [email protected] or 8711 7671.
KINDERGARTEN ENROLMENTS 2019 Kindergarten enrolments are now open for 2019. Any child who is turning 5 by 31 July 2019 is eligible to start school next year. Please call in at the office for further information, between the hours of 9:30am – 2:00pm Monday to Friday. Your child needs to be registered to take part in the Transition to School Program. Also if you are a temporary visa holder you need to apply now for Kindergarten enrolment to make sure that the paper work is completed in time. If you have any neighbours with children who are eligible to start school please pass this information on to them. The school needs to know the number of students who are intending to start school so that we can organise classes, timetables and ensure a smooth start to the school year. If you have any questions please ask. We are more than happy to assist.

LIBRARY NEWS
Reminder to Year 6 Students
As a way of encouraging people to borrow books from our wonderful school library the school has made the decision to supply all our NEW students with a library bag. As our Year 6 students are leaving this year to embark on their new adventure into High School, we would like to ask if the students could donate their library bag to school. This would enable our school to build up a supply of library bags to give to our new students who may enrol midway through the year, or to give a replacement library bag to students who may have lost their library bag.

Thank you to all our parents, students and teachers who have supported Book Club this year. I am pleased to announce we have had a very successful year. Due to your contributions in buying books from Book Club our school has been granted just over $700.00 in credits from Scholastic to purchase new books for our school library. This is a fantastic effort!

SCHOOL HOURS AND ATTENDANCE
A reminder that school hours are from 8.55am until 3.00pm. Supervision begins at 8.30am and it is recommended that children do not arrive before that time, unless required for sports training or dance practice. All children should be at school no later than 8.45 am as this allows time to order lunches, catch up with friends and to get organised for the day. The day concludes at 3.00pm and there is NO teacher supervision after that time. It is a parental responsibility to organise for children to be collected from school on time. We do understand that emergencies happen and you need to let us know, if you can, and make sure that all phone numbers and contact details are up to date . Also it is legislated that children must attend school on time everyday unless they are sick or seek exemption from the Principal. If for any reason your child is not at school please contact the office and you will be advised of the requirements. Children cannot learn unless they are at school and any extended absences may impact negatively on their learning. There are significant financial penalties if your children miss extensive periods of time without good reason. If you are having difficulty with your child’s attendance please let Mr Tapuska know as we may be able to help.
