Livelihood cross-sharing and learning workshop for
Eastern SB at Kitui (27th Feb to 2nd March 2012)
Participants
The cross-sharing workshop attracted world Vision staff from both WASH andFood security project in Eastern sub-branch. This included staff from the
following programmes: Mwala, Mutito Andei, Yatta, Tseikuru, Kalawa, Mutomo,
and Mutonguni among other invited programmes. The workshop was
facilitated by Eastern Sub-branch and National office livelihood teams.
Expectations
- Learn how to integrate WASH and food security projects
- Learn and share on best practices from the different IPAs

- How we are implementing food security and alignment to government

in alleviating poverty by increasing food production.

- Failure of WASH projects has been attributed to:
o WASH project were and are still imposed on community that
compromises ownership of community projects.
o
Implementation is done without considering important processes.
o No consideration for sustainability- source of water and its
sustainable period-recharge
o Water is not be considered as an economic good/activity
o Demonstration of IMPOSSIBLE No adoption
o Poor design and supervision during construction
- Approach to sustainable WASH project development (implementation
and sustainability)
o Intense community mobilization a need is identified; acceptable

Mutonguni Poverty Reduction Project (MPRP) Mr. Muatha
- Objective: to improve the living standards of the Mutonguni Community
by building their capacities and linking them to IGAs
- Interventions
o Dairy goat keeping- upgrading, production and marketing of goats
and goat products.
o Honey production production and sale of honey
o Small scale production-
o Environmental conservation through schools-
o Vocational training to OVCs
- Achievements
