MESSAGE FROM THE ADVISORY BOARD CHAIR As most of you know, this year’s Flea Market was an outstanding success with a record of over $75,000 raised through the efforts of many, many volunteers. I want to assure you that money is completely directed to fund our programs and activities. Thank you so much for everyone’s help and let me encourage you to start putting away articles for next year’s event.

We hear so much about healthy lifestyles and how being active and eating properly ensures longevity. Take advantage over the summer to visit local markets for fresh fruit and vegetables and visit our cafeteria for wonderful homemade soups and desserts. As well consider joining some of our out-door activities such as walking, hiking, golfing or cycling to take advantage of the warm days and evenings.During our facility improvement closure in late August there will be chang-es to the front desk and the cafeteria. The planned upgrades will ensure a welcoming and efficient atmosphere to everyone who comes to our Centre.I had the privilege of showing some guests from another senior centre in Vancouver our facilities and they were very impressed at how lucky we were to have such an active organization. Just remember that we are here to comp - lement you and your lifestyle with programs for everyone. Let your neigh-bours know about us and we will deliver fun and companionship for all. Sheilah Grant Chair

SENIORS' SCENE July / August 2015

MESSAGE FROM THE COMMUnITY RECREATIOn MAnAGER Spring cleaning is a great way to give back to the Seniors’ Activity Centre and donate those treasures to the annual Flea Market. Your donations make it possible for the Advisory Board to fund new programs, purchase equipment and make a difference in the lives of our seniors. It takes over 300 volunteers to host the annual

Flea Market with many giving their time for a solid full two weeks leading up to the big event. Thank-you to everyone who makes this all possible. In August we celebrate the amazing successes of our volunteers with the third of our four recognition events. On August 12 4 – 6 p.m., join us for a Volunteer BBQ. All volunteers are welcome to attend the four events we host all through the year, as our way to say ‘thank-you’, because you make our Centre feel like home, ‘like a place where everyone knows your name, and they are always glad you came’.Join us at the Garden Side Café for a lovely soup or delicious dinner. Take a swing with your golf club, try your hand at watercolours, take a shot at snooker, or sand something new in the woodworking studio. This summer learn how to make your garden amazing with Jane and the Garden Club. There is always something new at the Seniors’ Activity Centre—bring a friend and experience it for yourself! Jill Lawlor Community Recreation Manager

AnnuAl Shutdown The Seniors' Activity Centre will be closed from August 22 to September 7 for our annual maintenance. The Centre re-opens on September 8.
