THE REUNION

It was a rainy day. The raindrops came gushing down from the dark, smoke-filled sky, drenching

her in them as she stood in the middle of an abandoned street. The rain kept the girl company,

when there wasn’t another soul in the street. The cold raindrops slowly flowed down her cheeks

and her entire body, as she stood there in horror, looking at the scenery in front of her. The girl

could feel her humanity seeping out of her body and the harsh chillness of the rain reminded her

about how cruel, merciless and hateful this rotten world could be. As the girl continued to stand

there, numb and unable to move, negative thoughts found their way into her mind and tortured

her. Time kept passing by as usual, without waiting for any living creature and soon dawn broke

and it signified the arrival of August 7th 1945, the day after the bombing of Hiroshima and

Nagasaki in Japan. The bright sun in the sky forced the girl to move from that spot. Even though

the sun was shining brightly in the sky, there was no sign of hope to be found in the eyes of the

remaining citizens of Japan, who were scarred for life by the atomic bombing. The mild warmth

of the sun cleared her mind and she remembered her goal which she had forgotten…the goal to

find her elder brother.

Her elder brother was away from home during the bombing. Thankfully, he was in the same city

Hiroshima, so she decided that she wouldn’t rest until she found her brother. Her mind couldn’t

fathom thinking otherwise, thinking of a possibility where he wasn’t alive. She immediately

erased that thought from her mind and decided to start her search. She searched in all the nooks

and crannies, walked through the streets of Hiroshima which she could recognize after the blast.

The bombing had destroyed and devastated the city, turning everything that was once so bright

and beautiful into a bloody graveyard, filled with corpses, blood and ruined buildings

everywhere. As she continued her search, on the way she saw so many citizens suffering in pain

and needing medical assistance. While helping them, she enquired about her brother by

describing his physical features to them. But unfortunately, none of the people who she had

asked saw anyone like him. But the girl didn’t feel disheartened. She just thought she had to

search harder and continued the same cycle relentlessly, again and again when finally she found

an old man whom she helped treat his wounds. That man told her that he had seen a person like

her brother and gave her the probable location.

She followed the directions given to her which led her to a site which was destroyed very badly

by the bomb blast. With a silent prayer, the girl walked forward, frantically calling out her

brother’s name. She strained her ears desperately for even a faint reply .After calling repeatedly

she heard in a small voice, ”I’m over here, Nagisa”. She ran towards the direction where the

voice had come from and found a person who was trapped under the rubble. She called out

again,”Is that you, Tomoya?”.She heard an immediate response which said,”Yes it’s me,

Nagisa”. At that moment, Nagisa’s mind was ruled by a variety of emotions and feelings,

ranging from happiness, relief, fear, thankfulness and so on as she struggled to pull her dear

brother out of the rubble. After half an hour of continuous effort, she managed to pull him out

safely. After observing and scrutinizing Tomoya’s body for any injuries and convinced that there

weren’t any serious injuries, Nagisa held him in a loving embrace. She kept her face close to his

heart, as if reassuring herself that he is alive. Tomoya hugged her back tightly and said,”Thank

you for finding me, Nagisa” and she replied,”Thank you for staying alive, my brother”.

The siblings sat there through the night, reassuring each other that they would be there for each

other no matter what the future decides to throw at them. It was a touching reunion.

THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK

A spell of fury from thy mouth

Burning hearts lying on the way,

Knowing not the damage done,

But looking back at the end of day.

Seeking time to rewind herself

To undo the misery made,

A feel of guilt would prick your heart

For a mistake that would seldom fade.

Pleading for forgiveness then

To restore the broken bond

To bring back things as it were

Before the witch had used her wand.

The old and wise men often say

To look before you leap,

The wisest of them always say

To think before you speak.

MEMORIES

Memories of Sweet Cherished times,

Coming as a Flood of Tides

Lost days--Countless Mistakes

YET, Treasuring up Memories of the last days...!

Tide after Tide,

Memory after Memory

Comes as a Flash of Joy and Despair!

YET, missing times of Joyful endeavours!

Light creeps Through Darkness,

As do Memories in Despair

Bringing Tears of happiness

YET, knowing it will last mere Seconds!

Surrounded by People Unknown

Lost in a Crowd Alone,

"Hope"; Just a word of sort,

YET, Believing in it-- Nonstop!

Memories of those Moments

Holding you Intact

Piece by piece; bit by bit

YET, Tearing You Apart with every Hit!

Stepping Forward in Light,

Looking Beyond Sight

Searching for Joy,

YET, Treasuring up Memories of the last days...!

Are we really Hopeless??

This question has always baffled me whenever I hear news about a blast in Syria or kids of

Somalia dying out of famine or an attack in Palestine. All these information about the bleeding of

our Muslim Ummah not only upsets me but I’m sure it is case with all of us as well, but what

puzzles me is that, we, the Muslims who sit safely at home with their loved ones who protect

them can't do anything for the ones who have no idea whether they will wake up tomorrow under

their blanket or a building ? Can we the ones who eat and share good food can't do anything for

famine stricken children? Can we not do anything for the Muslims all around the world dealing

with injustice? I know that these questions must have come across your mind if not then or

atleast now.

“But what can you possibly do?”, my mind argues. Not everyone can fly away to Syria to help

out the people or fly away to famine stricken places for their help.

I always feel appreciative when I see Muslims who help out these people while at the same time

I do feel remorse as I cannot be part of it. So, are we the ones who cannot do any physical help

for the Ummah, hopeless??

“Negative!!”, responses my heart. There is somethingspecial which is equally good to doing any

physical help, That is Du’a. Du'a is such a powerful aid as it reaches directly to the Lord of the

Heavens, and Allah looks through every Du'a of every single person in this entire universe and

He always accepts itaccording to the time and need.Du'a is an amazing way of helping people

even when you cannot anything do for their situation. In fact the best time to make Du'a is

during the one-third of the night that is at the time of Tahajjud when the All Mighty descends

towards the lowest heaven and calls out for His slaves whether they are in need of something

even though He knows the deepest of our secrets.

As we all make du'a for something or the other such as getting good grades in exam or to get

new dress or for well being of our closed ones, it is must that we do du’a for the well being of the

entire Ummah and the countries suffering from crisis. These du’as must from heart rather than

the superficially ones sent on what's app. Remember that the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be

upon him) used to do du'as of forgiveness for his entire Ummah by standing in Prayer the whole

night, so can we not raise our hands for an extra 5 minutes to do du’a for the suffering Ummah

because we are really not that hopeless.
