Patricia Memoli Was dreaming about Molly and her brood last night. Woke up around 4am and just lay there thinking about them when these lines started coming together for apoem...so here it is...submitted for your enjoyment. =D Four little fluffers snuggled in a box safe from rain and wind even when it rocks. Molly is their mom outside in a tree sleeping through the day but close, to hear and see. In the dark of night after the sun goes down, dad comes to call, McGee's back in town! Silently they hunt together and return with furry treats, for the noisy, hungry owlettes it's all "good eats". All around the world hearts have come together as we watch our favorite family we are "birds of a feather"!

Thais Speaking of owl pellets, check out this pellet we found in Maine last summer. Kind of wished I'd saved it to disect. I think it's the remains of a baby gull, probablytaken by a Black Back gull or an eagle. The hand is mine, for size reference.

James Hill Kids, students, adults, and owl nuts all get them to explore! It's amazing what you may find inside. Tiny little skeletons, complete.

sherry vann I've been doing these for years with my students- grades 3-5. They are quite the inquiry lesson. I am planning a lesson for our third grade as soon asmine arrive. Word of warning to those who don't know- leave the ones in the wild alone as you can catch nasties from them. Order them from any sciencedistributor, like Carolina Biological. Catalog on line

Charlene Green People and science classes use them to take apart. They contain all of the bones of the animals that the owl eats. You can put together a skeleton ofthe animals. That is why I suggest that Carlos collect and sell them. There are companies that buy them and he could pay for all the equipment.

Barb Charlene, to collect and sell pellets you need a whole lot and Carlos would need to invest in more equipment to sterilize them and make trips to the PostOffice to send them to companies that supply schools, etc. It's not a big moneymaker at all. Dirty Jobs did an episode with a fellow who collects owl pellets and he goes to an abandoned barn that has a dozen families in it--just completely takenover by owls. A lot of libraries keep those shows on the shelf.

Thais At first I thought that strange, too. They're a dime a dozen in the nest box! But if you go to the link it's all about disecting them to learn science stuff;great for kids. I noticed the other day that they sell them at the Museum of Science gift shop here in Boston, too. Whooo knooooo?

spizon in NH I saw the first and second deliveries last night. Holy Cow, the second was ginormous! There is no way that was a mouse unless it was on steroids!

Barb 2nd treat is listed as a rodent brought by "unidentified". The first list is what McGee brought and then a list of what Molly brought and then a list of "Ican't identify that owl" brought. Each list is in chronological order but you have to integrate the 3 lists to see which came first. It is confusing.

Friend who has a key came round, heard banging noises andthought it was someone in loft so went up to investigate. I came home, heard noises in loft and panicked. Merritt You just might. There's often a delivery around this time. But not always, I should warn you. Sometimes they are few and far between! You'll know Mollyor McGee is making a delivery if the owlets start screeching like maniacs. They get super loud when mom and dad are near.

Latrippi Ok - I think I did it correctly....could you check for me please, just to make sure? I created my own "page" like it was suggested (as an author) and put it under POEMS (even though, I have both Haikus and Poems in there). Not sure if Ishould be putting them in the Haiku section also?

Latrippi No need to copy stuff to the Haiku page. Haikus are poems. When we started, we made a single page for Haiku but within 2 days that pretty much gotfilled up. Then people started adding pages for themselves (good idea, I think) and I thought, those pages should go in a folder to keep things tidy. Andthat folder should perhaps be called"Poems" since not all the poems are haiku. (I might have called it Poetry, but oh well!). So it's not consistent, but ...

seems to working out.


I like the idea of "keeping things tidy" as well. I'm a complete organizing freak! I will just keep my stuff in the POEMS folder then...under my ownpage. I like the idea of sorting those by AUTHOR...makes it easier to find I think....

Not all poems are haiku, but all haiku are poems. Poems is a good title for the folder.

Latrippi Good idea. We Only have 2 GB of storage space, though, and the PDF's take up a lot of room. So I don't want to mislead people into thinking they canstore photos and videos on the site. We just can't accommodate that, I'm afraid! But I just made a folder called Images for the 5 or 5 images used in the

wiki. Thanks! Take a look at the Timeline, if you want to ponder a place and way you cold maybe help!

DWD in Atlanta He has volunteer Moderators that handle all of that. Sometimes if there is a question of who or what the treat was, Carlos can confirm if he took apicture.

Latrippi Lorri, I love that book. ("Are you my mother?") Ha! I'm not sure who chooses the moderators but I think they're mostly people who live in San Marcos.They've been talking about a picnic coming up in May and seems most them live in the area. Carlos hangs out in there, and he has access to differentviews, so they have more infromation sometimes than we do. Stacy O'Brien drops by sometimes (often?), late at night so they get info from her too.

DWD in Atlanta Babies cover up the camera, waiting at the door, so Carlos set up another camera to get close up views for M&M making the deliveries.

Merritt It was a rabbit, and I think I saw the owl deposit it on the porch in front of the door. Please tell me somebody else can see it there, and saw what I saw!
