Inspector Sands23 October, 10am-12.30pm. Nufeld TheatreInspector Sands make work through improvisation and collaboration in an ensemble. The

company is ascinated by the emotional dramas lurking under the surace o everyday events,and this workshop will explore these tensions. Ockham’s Razor

13 November, 2- 3.30pm. The Great HallOckham’s Razor is an award-winning aerial theatre company that specialise in creating physicaltheatre on original aerial equipment. Join their masterclass and explore some o the devicesdesigned or their new show, The Mill: try turning in the wheel, walking on a cable drum andperorming on 100m o rope. MUSIC MASTERCLASSES AND LECTURESCentral European Roots with Bardolino11 November, 1.10-2pm. The Great HallVirtuosic Czech ensemble Bardolino are all classical artists in their own right. By exploring theircentral European heritage they have uncovered links between olk and classical music. They have

created a musical language uniquely theirs, inspired as the great composers Janacek, Kodaly andBartok were, to keep the spirit o their musical roots alive through the creation o new music. Thesession will be led by ormer leader o the Skampa Quartet, violinist Pavel Fischer.Tickets: £2

Composition Masterclass with Duncan Ward, Lancashire Sinfonietta18 November, 1.10-2pm. Jack Hylton RoomDuncan Ward is the 2010 winner o the Christopher Brooks Memorial Prize and Young Composerin Residence to the Lancashire Sinonietta. He established a charity or training young musicians

in Kerala, South India and this session will share a Video Conerence between Lancaster andIndia, hosted by CLEO.net.uk He discusses his new work “Hotpot” which will be premieredin the evening concert. How does a composer turn a commission into inspiration? What arethe guiding principals o a composer in the 21st century - does new music really have anythingoriginal let to say and can it still engage audiences?Tickets: £2

Conducting Masterclass with Nicholas Kok, Psappha25 November, 1.10-2pm. Jack Hylton Room

Nicholas Kok is the Principal Conductor o Psappha and works with the likes o English NationalOpera, BBC Singers, Scottish Ballet and Staatstheater Stuttgart. He has a distinguished career as aconductor and has built up a very wide repertoire, ranging through opera, ballet and symphonicmusic through to jazz improvisation and complex contemporary music.

He will deliver a masterclass which discusses the challenges o conducting and rehearsing certainworks in Psappha’s evening programme and give a short introduction in teaching the basics o agood conducting technique. Bring your batons!Tickets: £2

Introduction to “Pretty Eyed Pirate Smile” by artist Ellie Rees21 October, 1pm. B17 Bowland Annex, Lancaster University (First floor above the art studios.)Ellie Rees creates careully constructed perormances which employ humour and irony toinvestigate what it means to be a woman and an artist. Rees’ work both plays with and questionsthe nature o perormance, particularly looking at the dierence between live and recordedspectacle. FREE

Leave the M6 motorway at junction 33 andtake the A6 north towards Lancaster. Turn rightat the third set o trafc lights on the A6 intothe University main drive. Take the frst exit letrom the roundabout at the top o the maindrive and ollow signs or the Nufeld Theatre,Peter Scott Gallery or Great Hall.

campus ater 6pm and weekends), includingwheelchair accessible spaces. See map ornearest locations or parking. For weekdayparking there are pay and display machines,alternatively parking scratchcards can bebought at the Reception lodge. Parking chargesonly apply weekdays beore 6pm.

By BusBuses (numbers X1, 2, 2A, 3 and 4) leave rom

the centre o Lancaster very regularly (every 5

minutes on weekdays) or the 20 minute

 journey to the University. Buses also leave thecity centre at Common Garden Street or theUniversity. For bus inormation call ‘Traveline’on 0871 200 22 33. All buses drop o atthe University underpass, beneath AlexandraSquare in the centre o campus.

By TrainThere are direct rail links between Lancasterrand London, Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester,

Oxord and major cities in Scotland. The X1bus service runs between the Railway Stationand the University every 20 minutes Mon - Satdaytimes and hourly on Sunday aternoons andevenings. Taxis are also available rom outsidethe station. Lancaster Railway Station is a 5minute walk away rom the city centre.
