“A L I V E A N D A C T I V E ”The Year of Saint Matthew

4th SUNDAY of EASTER07.05.17.

(Sunday Readings: of year A : Breviary: Week iv) World Day of Prayer for Vocations

THIS SUNDAY’S MASSScripture Acts 2: 14, 36 – 41.

Psalm 22

R/. The Lord is my shepherd, There is nothing I shall want.

The Lord is my Shepherd;/there is nothing I shall want.

Fresh and green are the pastures / where he gives me repose.

Near restful waters he leads me,to revive my drooping spirit.

He guides me along the right path;he is true to his name.If I should walk in the valley of darkness /

no evil would I fear. You are there ith your crook and your staff; /

with these you give me comfort. You have prepared a banquet for mein the sight of my foes.My head you have anointed with oil;my cup is overflowingSurely goodness and kindness shall follow meall the days of my life.In the Lord's own house shall I dwellfor ever and ever.

1 Peter 2: 20 – 25. John 10: 1 – 10.

One day the zookeeper noticed that the orang-utan was reading two books – the Bible and Darwin’s Origin of Species. In surprise he asked the ape, ‘Why are you reading both those books?’ ‘Well,’ said the orang-utan, ‘I just wanted to know if I was my brother’s keeper or my keeper’s brother.’

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Dear Lord, thus far today you should be proud of me. I haven’t gossiped, lost my temper, spoken in anger, been greedy, grumpy, selfish or over-indulgent. No ill feeling has entered my heart, nor have I begrudged another soul. I am very pleased with the way I have performed thus far. However, in a few minutes, Lord, I will be getting out of bed to begin the day, and from that point on I will be in much need of your help and understanding. Thank you for being there for me. Amen.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^A young man has just graduated from Oxford and is so excited just thinking about his future. He gets into a taxi and the driver say, ‘How are you on this lovely day?’ The young man replies, ‘I’m the Class of 2016. I just graduated from Oxford, and I just can’t wait to go out there and see what the world has in store for me.’ The driver turns around to shake the young man’s hand and says, ‘ Congratulations! I’m Wilf, Class of ‘60’.

Mountain Ash.

Last week we heard a story of the two men on a journey to Emmaus.

All of us have a story to tell like those Pilgrims from Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales. For the Christian our Pilgrimage starts at our Baptism when we become a child of God, a journey of discovery. The Lord chooses us, not us choosing the Lord, He gives us a vocation and along this journey we discern this Vocation, “What is the Lord asking of me?”

Today we remember those whose vocation is to the Priesthood, Diaconate or Religious life, and those men who have accepted this call at different ages of life to serve and are at Seminary ready, willing and with God’s help to give themselves to the Serving of the Lord within this Archdiocese.

Pray for these “apprentice shepherds”, that they will learn from Jesus our Shepherd who is challenging them to serve, to heal and bring home the lost sheep.

We need Priests, who need your prayers, encouragement and money. Therefore NEXT Sunday we will take a collection to help pay for these Young men and their training.

Walsingham Waya weekend retreat for those considering their vocation
