Oh, by the way…
PSSSST: Confirmation Class!!! Check out the area of our Local Church and Deanery. Last week, Eric, his sponsor and our RCIA team, traversed to Lafayette for the Rites. They were joined with catechumens and candidates from the Lafayette, Logansport and Muncie deaneries. So, where is our Local Church (Diocese) actually located? Which is our Deanery? Where is our Deanery? Our Cluster belongs to the Logansport Deanery comprised of St. Joseph, Delphi; St. Francis Solano, Francesville; St. Ann, Kewanna; St. Joan of Arc, Kokomo, St. Patrick, Kokomo, All Saints, Logansport; St. Anne, Monterey; Our Lady f the Lakes, Monticello; St. Charles Borromeo, Peru; St. Joseph, Pulaski; St. Joseph, Reynolds; St. Joseph, Rochester; St. Peter, Winamac. A Local Church (Diocese) is a geographic area under the spiritual leadership of a Bishop. A Deanery is a sub-division of the Diocese served by a Bishop-appointed Dean who meets with the Bishop regularly as information flows both ways: i.e. Bishop to Deans, Deans to Bishop. Periodically there are deanery meetings scheduled where information is transmitted from the Bishop. Priests of the Deanery give input to the Dean who, in turn, reports back to the Bishop. Posted in the vestibules are color-coded maps of our Local Church with the five (5) Deaneries (Carmel, Fowler, Lafayette, Logansport & Muncie). Take a gander!
It is the time! St. Francis, in conjunction with the Pulaski County
West Side Ministerial Association, is hosting the weekly Lenten
Service this coming Wednesday. St. Francis will provide a fellowship
soup supper at 6:15 p.m. followed by worship at 7:00 p.m. All are
invited to attend!
A couple weeks ago, all priests attended another obligatory diocesan priest day for
continuing education. This one presented the shape for priestly formation in the future. The
Program for Priestly Formation (PPF) is undergoing some radical changes. The final program is
scheduled to be released by 2020! Three (3) unambiguous and interdisciplinary areas are
surfacing: Propaedeutic, Configurative and Vocational Synthesis. Was interesting to hear how
this will unfold in the future. Stay tuned!
Catholic Relief
Services (CRS) is the

agency of the Catholic community
in the United States. Founded in
1943 by the United States
Conference of Catholic Bishops, the agency provides assistance to 130 million

the Middle East and Eastern Europe.
A member of Caritas International, the worldwide network of
Catholic humanitarian agencies, CRS provides relief in
emergency situations and helps people in the developing
world break the cycle of poverty through community-based,
sustainable development initiatives as well as Peacebuilding.
Assistance is based solely on need, not race, creed or nationality. Catholic Relief
Services is headquartered in the Posner Building in Baltimore, Maryland, while
operating numerous field offices on five continents. CRS has approximately
5,000 employees around the world. The agency is governed by a Board of
Directors consisting of 13 clergy (most of them bishops) and 10 lay people.

THE INDEPENDENT NEWS SOURCE
The National Catholic Reporter (NCR) is an American Roman Catholic newspaper. Based in Kansas City, Missouri, NCR was founded by Robert Hoyt in 1964. Hoyt wanted to bring the professional standards of secular news reporting to the press that covers Catholic news, saying that "if the mayor of a city owned its only newspaper, its citizens will not learn what they need and deserve to know about its affairs". The publication, which operates outside the authority of the Catholic Church, is independently owned and governed by a lay board of directors.
Each issue includes news stories, analysis, commentary, opinion and editorials. The Opinion and Arts section contains book and film reviews, as well as spiritual reflections, along with letters to the editor, classifieds and editorials.
NCR has won the "General Excellence" award from the Catholic Press Association in the category of national news publications six times between 2008 and 2014. In June 2017, NCR awarded Former NCR Editor and Publisher, Tom Fox, its highest honor for publishers, the Bishop John England Award.
With that as the background, NCR recently ran an article entitled “Why are young Catholics leaving?” I mentioned the tipoff the iceberg a couple weeks ago. In a recent issue, NCR started probing. Based on the Pew Research Report* (not the annual pew census count…reference the footnote!), some interesting facts and statistics: surfacing various feeling from being judged by religious leaders who don’t know or understand them; being forced by their parents to attend church; witnessing the sexual abuse scandal and the hypocrisy of the church hierarchy; young people are expressing a desire to break free from organized religion and to be part of a community. One might wish to read: Going, Going, Gone: The Dynamics of Disaffiliation in Young Catholics. Two statistics that jump out: •Approximately 12.8% of U. S. those between 18-25 are former Catholics; •74% said they stopped identifying as Catholics between ages 10-20 with medium age of 13.
The report is available for purchase at www.catholicresearch.smp.org *The Pew Research Center is a nonpartisan American think tank based in Washington, D.C. It provides information on social issues, public opinion, and demographic trends shaping the United States and the world. It also conducts public opinion polling, demographic research, media content analysis, and other empirical social science research. The Pew Research Center does not take explicit policy positions, and is a subsidiary of The Pew Charitable Trusts.
