Welcome!For nearly 170 years, St. Joseph Parish has been the spiritual home to the people of North Baltimore County. Our parish was established in 1852 to serve the Irish immigrants who came here to quarry the local marble. Since then, generations of families have put down their spiritual roots here at St. Joseph Parish—more than 3,000 families are a part of our community.

This Easter, even as we are not gathered together in our church building to commemorate the Lord’s Passion and Death and to celebrate the joy of the Resurrection and the promise of new life, we are united in spirit and in our faith and trust in Jesus Christ. The Church still worships as we lift our hearts in praise to God. As it has been said by many in these days, the church buildings might be closed, but the Church is still alive and well in its members whose hearts are open to God’s grace and power.

We extend a warm and hearty welcome to you, wherever you may be as you join us in prayer during the Sacred Triduum. I encourage you to mark these holy days by taking time out to pray, especially to join us for livestream celebrations. Offer these and other moments of prayer individually and as families as your sacrifice of praise to God. Take some time to read and reflect on the scriptures. Make use of a family cross or crucifix to adore and venerate the cross in your home, or carry it in procession to make your own Stations of the Cross in your yard.

I know we all look forward to being together to share in the Eucharist again soon. In the meantime, I, along with our whole parish staff, pledge to continue the strong tradition of pastoral care that has been the bedrock of this wonderful parish for so many years.

Holy ThursdayJueves Santo

With this evening’s liturgy we enter into the Triduum. The time for feasting together at the Mass of the Lord’s Supper yields to the time for keeping the paschal fast together. On this night, as we enter most intensely into the mystery of the Lord’s death and resurrection, we fulfill Jesus’ clear command, “that you should do

as I have done to you.” ( John 13:15). There is a clear connection, then, between the Mandatum (the footwashing) and the Eucharist, carried in procession to a place of reservation.

So, during supper, fully aware that the Father had put everything into his power and that he had come from God and was returning to God, he rose from supper and took off his outer garments. He took a towel and tied it around his waist. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and dry them with the towel around his waist.

He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Master, are you going to wash my feet?” Jesus answered and said to him, “What I am doing, you do not understand now, but you will understand later.” Peter said to him, “You will never wash my feet.” Jesus answered him, “Unless I wash you, you will

Holy SaturdaySábado Santo

On Holy Saturday the Church waits at the Lord’s tomb meditating on his suffering and death. The altar is left

bare, and the sacrifice of the Mass is not celebrated until the Easter Vigil. Only after the Vigil, held at night

in anticipation of the Resurrection, does the Easter celebration begin, with a spirit of joy that overflows into

the great fifty days of the Easter season.
