Dear Friends,

If there was ever a work of literature

that contained an abundance of “fantastic”

stories and the characters to go along with

them, it is the Bible. While movie studios and

game makers try to create stories that can

spur the imagination, the Bible has them as a

reality and not as a products of one person’s

thoughts and ides being linked together.

Stories of Moses parting the Red Sea;

Noah and the Ark and a flood to match

it. Daniel in lion’s den being kept safe by the

Lord because of his faith in the Lord. The rise

and fall of kings, especially King David, who

nearly paid for his infidelity to God with his

life until the Lord was moved by David’s

humility before him. Then there are angels

who are messengers of the Lord, prophets

who did the will of God and asked for nothing

in return. If you have read this far, then

hopefully you’ll begin to see why even today,

the Bible is the most top selling book and the

one which will, inevitably cause more

questions to be asked than answers to be

given.

Perhaps that is why the person of John

the Baptist in the gospel this weekend can

either appear to us as one might expect, or he

creates a greater sense of the mysterious ways

in which God has, and continues to move in

and through the world even today. John was

a major figure in his own right. He was

heavily influenced by an austere

group known as the Essenes, who encouraged

repentance. While John had his own followers

who persisted long after the early Christian

community was formed, nonetheless he was

the one who pointed to the Way, the Way of

the Lord. All of the people in the Bible

demonstrate that God will always use the

most unlikely of people to carry out His

message of salvation. It was never intended

that we should “figure it all out” or that we

might “understand” each person, but that we

should know that the mystery of God’s work in

our life is predicated on our understanding of

faith.

This is why Advent is so important in

the liturgical life of the Church. This is a

season of mystery and of promise. Stay

awake, be ready! Peace, Fr. Michael

Please remember in your prayers

Parishioner Lisa Mooney,

daughter of Gail Bolduc

May she rest in peace, and may

her family find comfort from

their faith in Jesus Christ.

SAFE ENVIRONMENT TRAINING

FOR ALL VOLUNTEERS!

Our diocesan policy requires that all those whose

work brings them in contact with children receive

Safe Environment Training.   This applies to all

volunteers, Catechists, Aides, Eucharistic

Ministers, Greeters, and Lectors.. For those who

have not already attended a session, the training

is available online. To register for the Online

Course, email [email protected]. You will

then be contacted by Cathaleen Peloquin from the

Office of Healing and Prevention who will send you

the link for the online training. Once you have

completed the training you must send the certificate

to Michelle Lutter. If you are interested in a LIVE

course or if you have any questions please contact

Michelle Lutter at the Religious Ed. Office, or email

[email protected]. Our Parish requires that

you fill out a CORI form each year (with attached

copy of your driver’s license) and a onetime only

Code of Ministerial Conduct. These forms can be

found on the table outside the Religious Ed Office in

the Parish Family Center.

Our annual Christmas

Giving Tree program has

begun. Gift tags outlining

the name, age and gift wish

ideas are available on the

trees on the altar. Please

note that although there are several gift ideas

listed on each tag, they are just that—wishes and

ideas. We ask our callers to provide us with

three ideas of $25. or less and set the

expectation that our parish will provide one gift.

This year we are once again servicing a

Leominster Nursing Home, Beacon of Hope and

those who come to our doors for assistance. If

you or your family can reach out to purchase

one of these gifts, your generosity will be greatly

appreciated. We ask that all gifts be returned

unwrapped and with the tags attached by

Sunday, December 15th, so that Christmas gift

pickups can be made on time. When taking a

tag, we need to ask you to please be mindful of

this December 15th due date for the gift return.

Over the past few years, we have purchased over

20 gifts where tags were taken and gifts not

brought in or bought in after our delivery date.

Thank you!!

Our Lady of the Lake is

excited to announce that

we have a team of 20

students who will be

involved in Young

Neighbors in Action (YNIA) this summer.

YNIA is a summer service experience for older

adolescents (9th through 12th grades). It

provides a dynamic Catholic approach to both

service and justice that connects God's Word,

prayer and liturgy, and Catholic teaching with

the work the young people do throughout the

week.

Led by a team of our young adults, Rich

Lutter, Amy Petkewich and Emily St.

Germain, these awesome kids and their

families will be working on raising money to

help fund their cost to go and serve the Lord

this coming July in Brooklyn, New York. The

team will appreciate your prayers and your

support. You will be hearing more from Our

Young Neighbors as they introduce

themselves and their purpose during mass in

the next few weeks. In the meantime, below

is a list of fundraising activities that might fit

your need.

Advent Reflection -

”Pray Like the Pope”

Advent is supposed to be

a quiet and prayerful

season that leads up to

Christmas. However,

many of us now find it so

filled up with shopping and parties that the

season often passes unnoticed and

under-appreciated. Several Jesuits priests

from Holy Cross and a team of experienced

companions will lead an Advent prayer series

at 7:15PM at Our Lady of the Lake on

Sundays, November 24th, December 1st, 8th,

and 15th, following the 6:00PM Mass. On

each of the evenings, those gathered will be

led in a 20-minute prayer experience that will

be followed by group reflection upon that

prayer. The prayer styles will be in Lectio

Divina, Guided Meditation, and

Contemplation. You are welcome to come to

any one or all of the evening prayer

experiences.

FEBRUARY CALENDAR

RAFFLE

The popular February Calendar

Raffle will be offered again In

2020. In case you are looking for

a “stocking stuffer” this Christmas, calendar

raffle chances are available at the church

entrances. Calendar raffle chances and

information will be mailed to all parishioners in

January. Donation cost is $10 per chance or 4

for $30, and you have 29 chances to win!
