'Centre de la Mer de Biarritz'
(ERMMA programme),
Stéphane Abadie, Professor
at the University of Pau and
Pays de l’Adour), Cyril
Mallet (BRGM &
Observatory of the Aquitaine
Coast) This workshop will present a
snapshot of Aquitaine coastal
research through two topics
related to climate changes and
extreme events :
- the first one is the winter
2013-2014 which was one of
the most damaging of the last
50 years in terms of impact on
beaches and infrastructures. The
presentations will cover the
statistical aspects, the damages
observed and the response of
the coast. Questions such as
"how extreme was this winter ?
How can we define a storm
impact indicator ? What is the
role of coastal defences during
extreme storms ? Is the damage
on the beach irreversible ?"
will be addressed.

- the second one concerns the
impact of climate variations
on marine biodiversity in
Aquitaine. How marine
ecosystems react in front of
important and quick climate
variations? Some examples
showing environmental
responses will be presented.
Another phenomenon
concerning the “liga” will be

covering fishing nets is studied
on a multidisciplinary way for a
