A 100+ Year Organization Embraces the Latest Network-based Security Surveillance SystemWhile the Little Sisters of the Poor had a rich, vibrant history of taking care of the needy elderly in the Los Angeles area, their surveil-lance system had become antiquated and in need of replacement. Victor Salcido, Director of Human Resources, decided to replace their analog, black and white system--which was no longer functioning properly--with an updated solution.

The residence had it’s problems with graffitti and wanted to do everything it could to pro-tect their large complex and the residence living inside. Victor contacted PhonesUSAplus about a new system. Victor met with Thomas Loder of PhonesUSAplus and eventually decided on the exacqVision IP Camera Server with 6TB of storage by exacq technologies (www.exacq.com).

“Our mission of hospitality calls us to welcome the needy elderly into our Home and to receive them as members of our own family, notes Salcido. “We welcome nearly 100 Resi-dents without regard to race or religion and provide four levels of care: Independent Living Apartments, Residential Living, Assisted Living, and Skilled Nursing. The need for a Security System in a healthcare facility such as Jeanne Jugan Residence is critical to protect the Residents, employees, visitors, volunteers and Little Sisters. In addition, it is important to protect the grounds, buildings, capital assets and vehicles of the Home and visitors.”

In addition to the powerful, easy-to-use exacqVision VMS software, the staff of the Jeanne Jugan Residence also rely on the 3-megapixel image quality and auto focus features found in their 21 Panasonic cameras distributed throughout the complex. They have also utilized Arecont Vision’s unique 4-lens 180 degree 8-megapixel camera used to monitor their back parking lot.

“The exacqVision system has allowed us to install digital, network security cameras located throughout the six acre property covering the four main buildings, the two exit/entrance gates, and six parking areas; and also provide real time feed to the reception desk with more than adequate retention,” adds Salcido. “The video quality is exceptional. The expan-sion capabilities will allow us to continue to grow into this product for years to come.”

The Little Sisters of the Poor has a 100+ year history in the Los Angeles metro-politan area. The Jeanne Jugan Residence in San Pedro is made up of over 100 units for elderly residents in need of very little to complete, 24-hour a day health care. The 14 Independent Living Apartments (opened in 2002) are for individu-als capable of their own care. The 24 Residential Care units are private rooms for residents who require minimal assistance with medicine and personal needs. The 36 Assisted Living units are ideal for residents who require additional care such as assistance with personal care and ambulation. Finally, the 27 Skilled Nursing units provide 24-hour personal and medical care by licensed, trained professionals. The Activities Program includes arts and crafts and fitness programs, outings and op-portunities for socialization and intellectual stimulation. Regular medical service is provided for all Residents by a competent staff of doctors and nurses, along with a physical therapist, a podiatrist, a dentist and a social worker.
