May was a very busy month here at Little Rouge. All of our junior and inter-mediate students participated in Track and Field. In addition, many of our students participated in our Music Night, Arts Showcase, EQAO as well as other events such as the Band Trip. Finally, our new incoming JK students and their parents visited the school to hear all about the wonderful things that happen here at Little Rouge as they get ready to attend in September. I can’t believe there is only one month left and it’s full of academics and activities as well. The grade 8’s and their teachers are busy finishing up their elementary school career and are preparing for their graduation on June 27th. Please ensure that you check your child’s agenda on a daily basis for all the things that are happening during the month of June.
GRADE 8 GRADUATION
Plans have been finalized for our Grade 8 Graduation. This special event for our
Grade 8 students will be held on Tuesday, June 27th, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
at Little Rouge. Following the graduation, the students will then take a school bus to the
Paramount for dinner. We thank our Grade 8 Graduates for being part of the Little Rouge
School Community and wish them well in their future endeavours!
June 29, 2017 Dismissal All schools in the York Region District School Board are committed to improving student
achievement and well-being. On Thursday, June 29, 2017, an early release day will take
place to allow elementary teachers and support staff to take part in meetings during the
afternoon of that day. These meetings will allow for school staff to engage in culminating
activities regarding the review and revision of the School’s Improvement Plan as well as
year-end and transition activities that support student success.
As has been our practice in the past, students will attend school during the morning of
Thursday, June 29, 2017 only. Students will be dismissed early that day at 12:00.
Arrangements will be made to ensure that students who are normally bused to and from
school will receive transportation at this time. Parents/guardians whose children attend
after school child care should make appropriate arrangements to address this change in
schedule.

Empty Milk Bags
We want to thank our amazing and wonderful community for helping us collect milk bags! We have donated two milk bag mats to the St. Francis Table in Toronto. Our students have been working with St. Brother Andre High School on how they can help people in Toronto. The milk bag mats are being delivered to the St. Francis Table and they will help two homeless people who really need it. Another 15 milk bag mats are being donated to the Markham Food Bank to support our Markham residents. We are collecting milk bags until the end of June so please bring in what you have. Thank you for helping our students understand that together we stand in helping everyone!
Dress Code – Reminders We have a dress code in effect with regards to appropriate wear during the warmer weeks. We ask that students
refrain from wearing clothing that displays visible undergarments (e.g. bra straps, boxer shorts) and bare midriffs,
and low cut tops or short shorts/skirts. Students who contravene our Dress Code will be asked to call home for
appropriate clothing. If no one is available to bring appropriate clothing, we will provide replacement clothing that
meets the dress code standards. We also encourage you to consider safety when selecting summer footwear (e.g.
flip flops can prove to be hazardous when running and playing). We appreciate your support in helping us maintain a

Message from our Trustee As we near the end of the school year, I want to thank you for all that you do to strengthen our schools and com-munities. This is a good time to celebrate your child’s achievements over the past year. One of our goals in the Trustees’ Multi-Year Plan is to “continuously increase student achievement and well-being through a culture and caring and learning.” That includes a culture that emphasizes engagement and positive rela-tionships among all the members of the school community – students, staff members, families and community members. You, as parents/guardians, are our most important partners when it comes to education. The support you have pro-vided to your child throughout this past school year will help to strengthen our schools and make a difference to your child’s learning. I encourage you to continue engaging your child in learning throughout the summer, and to help them to see the connections between what they are learning in school and the world around them. There are so many opportunities to do this over the summer, whether that’s planning a budget with your child, enjoying the natural beauty in York Region, reading a book or visiting local sites. Whatever your plans are this summer, I wish you all a successful end to the school year, and a safe and enjoyable summer.

Police Checks for Volunteers
According to the YRDSB Policy and Procedure #280 Volunteers in our Schools, it is best practice
that all volunteers hold a valid PVSC ( Police Vulnerable Sector Check ) . In May 2016 the
School Council members voted and agreed that this policy should be put in place at Little Rouge
for the safety and security of the students, as well as the volunteers themselves. This includes
volunteers who help in the school, go on class trips and drive students to sporting activities or other events.
Volunteers are an important part of the Little Rouge school community and we hope that you will see the importance of
having this done and continue to support the students and staff through volunteering both in and out of the school
setting.
Please see the details below of how to obtain a police check. If you would like to get one done over the summer so that
it can be ready for the beginning of school, please call the office and we can send a letter home that you will need to
take with you to get the check completed. If you already have a police check that has been done for another organiza-
tion, please bring the original copy to the school so that we can determine whether or not it satisfies our board ’ s
policy.
Cost – There is $30 fee provided the school supplies a letter stating that the person is going to be volunteering in the
school ( upon request, we will provide you with a school letter ) .
How to get one:
A ) In person – Richmond Hill – Yonge/Elgin Mills – 10720 Yonge Street ( the Stouffville location is now
closed ) - if everything is fine with the police check it can usually be done in about 10 minutes
( Hours M-F – 8 – 6 , Sat. 8 – 4 )
B ) On-line – takes about 7 – 10 days. You would be notified when it is ready and can pick it up at the nearest
police station but must bring ID ( see below for acceptable ID ) – most stations open 24 hours
ID is required for in person or online application
You will need to provide 2 pieces of government ID – one with a photo so passports and driver ’ s licenses are fine but
no health cards or SIN cards.
If a person does not have a driver ’ s license they can bring a recent piece of mail with their address on it but they still
require photo ID.
If you have any questions or concerns about this, please call the office. Thank you.

Many parents and community members came out to show their support and celebrate this incredible night.

Students returning to school after hours ….
We know that sometimes students will forget their homework or other
items that are needed once they get home from school. Just a reminder that
students should not be returning to the school to get these items unless it is
before 4:15 pm. The caretakers are not responsible for letting students in
the building. We remind students to be responsible and ensure they have
everything they need before leaving and would appreciate parents doing the
same.
