Mana springWater festival...
On Monday 29thOctober we watched the film ABUELLA GRILLO addressed to younger
students.
On Tuesday 30thOctober: Water Volos: an effort to save water for the next generations
Students and parents discussed the problem and expressed themselves in creative writing.
On Wednesday 1stNovember we watched the documentary Water Drops by Nelly Psarou.
On Thursday 2ndNovember we walked up to the Mana Spring, we saw the Stone Tap and we
discussed about their importance and their role in the past. Then we walked down the path of
the Centaurs. We walked along a small river with clear but cold water, we crossed the small
wooden bridges and we enjoyed our picnic in the autumn atmosphere of the forest. Then, since
it was the National Day of School Athlet- ics, wewent to the Gym and we played team
games. We played one hand bas- ketball
and blindfolded football. After that the
girls of the 6thGrade made a banner about
the Mana Spring and put it outside the
Town Hall.
On Friday 3rdNovember we made posters
and leaflets in order to raise public
awareness on the issue of water. The
slogan of our campaign was Mana the
spring of our life
On Saturday 4thNovember everybody
helped cleaning the path
around Mana Spring and
the path of the Centaurs.
On Sunday 5thNovem-
ber a lot of people par-
ticipated in the feast at
the Mana Spring and had a
great time.

THE KENTAUROI (or Centaurs) were a tribe of half man {their head, arms, and chest are
those of a human} and half horse {the rest of their body, including four legs, hindquarters, and
a tail is like that of a horse} savages which inhabited the mountains and forests of Magnesia.
They were a primitive race who made their homes in mountain caves, hunted wild animals for
food and armed themselves with rocks and tree branches. The centaurs were mythological
c r e a - tures.
Chiron
Chi- ron was known for his exceptional good-
ness and wisdom. He was the only immortal
c e n - taur. He became the tutor for a number of
famous Greek heroes including: Achilles, As-
clepius, Patroclus, Peleus, Jason and Actaeon.
Despite his immortality he was to end up dying.
Heracles stopped to visit Pholus. Heracles was
thirsty and persuaded Pholus to open a jar of wine
that was the common property of the centaurs. The
other centaurs smelt
the wine and came run-
ning. A fight broke out
between Heracles and
the centaurs. Chiron
took no part in the
fight but, was acciden-
tally wounded by Hera-
cles. As an immortal,
Chiron could not die
but lived in terrible
pain. Chiron then chose
to trade his life for
the release of Prome-
theus.

On Wednesday 15th October Apple Day was held in our school which involved
many apple-related activities. Children had the chance
t o learn about the importance of apples in our diet, their
v i - tamins and their nutritional value. Everybody tasteda p - ples. The students of A' and B' classes drew apples
a n d sang songs. C' and D' classes made a big apple puz-
z l e . The students of 5th and 6th grade talked about
a p p l es in mythology, religion and nutrition. We made ap-
ple pies, cakes, apple tarts and we ate apple jam. We
p l a y e d apple games in the school yard and we had fun.
W e watched videos about apple varieties on the
i n t e r n e t and we played computer games with apples and numbers. Apples are
also popular in England so here are some proverbs:
An apple a day keeps the doctor away
A word spoken at the right time is like gold apples on a silver tray
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree
One rotten apple will spoil the whole barrel.
