7.0 Outings Policy and Procedure

Policy StatementLittle Ducklings Preschool recognises the importance of trips and outings for children in providing new and enhanced experiences that embrace the EYFS. Whilst undertaking trips and outings, we recognise the need for safety at all times.

Little Ducklings Preschool ensures that: Equal opportunities exist for all children (disabilities and cultural requirements). Paediatric 1st aiders are always in attendance on trips and outings. Risk assessments are complete prior to the trip, which is then discussed in detail

between all members of staff/adults that are included on the trip. This is to make sure all adults understand any potential risk or hazard.

Where an outing becomes a regular event, the risk assessment is reviewed. Head counts are conducted at regular intervals throughout the day. No child is left unattended in a vehicle or elsewhere. Safety is maintained whilst children board or exit vehicles or whilst walking. All staff carry mobile phones. Adult : child ratios are adhered to and are exceeded accordingly. Essential records are carried at all times ie emergency contact numbers, medical

forms, registers, 1st aid kits. Key persons look after their own key children with extra adult support. Each key person carries a mobile phone, emergency contact numbers of all their

key children, 1st aid kit and list of children on the trip. A staff meeting takes place before and after the trip to discuss any actions needed

to ensure the safety of the children, if the same trip is planned for the future.

The following procedures are carried out at all times: A written risk assessment of the venue prior to the visit, to assess any potential

risks, both en-route and at the venue. Full details of the outing is disclosed to parents. Written parental permission is sought, prior to the trip. Each key person is given contact numbers for their key children. Essential records and documents are carried by all key persons at all times. All key persons carry an up to date paediatric 1st aid certificate. Transport checks are undertaken as stated in the Transportation policy, which can

be found in this section. An emergency meeting point will be established, prior to the trip, making sure

everyone knows the protocol in the event of an emergency.
