Check your words. Look and Find When you check your writing, you need to be like a detective. Look very carefully at the words you wrote. Here are some things to look for. 1. Look for words that have two letters that are the same. Have you forgotten one of the letters? little, pass , ball 2. Look for words that have silent letters. Have you left out a silent letter? home , comb 3. Look for words that sound the same as other words but have different spellings, like four and for. If you are not sure which spelling you need, ask your ummi to help you use a dictionary to find out. Ex: May I have four cookies for my friends?



Fixing your words How can you find out how to spell a word correctly? 1. Ask someone older than you to help you look it up in a dictionary. 2. Look in your spelling log book to see if the word is already there. 3. Ask someone who is a good speller how the word should be spelled. When you find the correct spelling, mark it on your paper. Ex: took ride bike

I tok a rid on my byke. It takes work to fix spelling mistakes but you’ll be glad you did inshaAllah.



What is a spelling log book? You can have your very own spelling log book. Just follow these few steps inshaAllah. 1. When you are reading look for new words. 2. When you are with other people listen for new words. 3. When checking your spelling, draw a line around each word you spelled wrong. 4. Learn how to spell the word correctly. Ask your teacher, or your ummi and abi. 5. Write the word in your spelling log. You have learned a new word! Make sure you spell it correctly. Then use the word in a sentence. 6. Don’t use your book for anything other than your new spelling words!
