Literacy tasks for week beginning Monday 11th January 2021; 11/01/21
Spelling words:
This week your spelling words are the words dated the 11th
January on your spelling table.
Task:
Remember to write your words out using the Look,
Cover, Write and Check method. Try to write them out
once a day.
This week I would like you to write 3 sentences using
your spelling words.
Choose an activity from the spelling activities grid to
complete.
Ask your family to quiz you on your spelling words on a Friday.
Dictation: I have attached the dictation words for the next three
weeks. In the email sent out I have told you which group
your child is in. If possible, could you please read them
out to your child and they are to write down what you
have said. This task is completed once a week.
Handwriting:
In the Literacy Channel, Files, Week 1 there are two
sheets for your child to practise their handwriting. This
week we will focus on a and b.
Phonics and Tricky words:
Practise you Jolly Phonic sounds (all 42) using the
letters you currently have at home.. Also the new
sounds we have been learning. The following link takes
you to a clip which reminds us of the sounds:
https://www.jollylearning.co.uk/resource-bank/learn-
the-letter-sounds/
We are learning to recognise initial consonant blend: bl,
cl, fl, gl, pl, sl . The following is a clip to help you
recognise the sound they make:

In Literacy Channel, Files, I have put a variety of
worksheets to complement our learning of the
consonant blends. Choose some to do this week and the
remainder you can do next week.
Continue practising your tricky words using your words.
Play games with them. Use some card to make the bang
game to play at home. I have put the next set of tricky
words into the Tricky words File in the Literacy
Channel. You know which Tricky words you are on to.
Grammar: Task 1:
Can you put the capital letters in the right place in this
game?

letter-beginner-1.html
Those who want a challenge try putting the capital
letters in this game.

Reading: The following is a link for the ebook ‘The Lucky Duck’
story:
https://www.rspb.org.uk/globalassets/downloads/kids--
schools/big-schools-birdwatch-downloads/luckyduck-
story-book.pdf
Get an adult to read this to you, but I know you can all
manage to read some of the words, so have a go. Talk
about the story afterwards. Did you enjoy the story?
Who was your favourite character? Can you draw a
picture of your favourite bird?
Writing:
In the Literacy Channel, Files, Week 1, there is a writing sheet for your child to write about
or describe the ‘Winter Robin’.
In class we discuss the picture and what we could write about the picture. The ideas come
from the children and I would model how we put this into a sentence. Keep it simple!
Encourage your child to write a sentence about the robin independently. If they can write
another sentence then encourage them to challenge themselves and try!
Remember:
Capital letter, finger spaces and a full stop!
Use your phonics to sound out your words. I look forward to seeing your writing about my ‘Winter Robin.

Dictation helps children to master language skills such as writing, reading, listening, and
talking. It allows children to match sounds-to-letters to spell words, and develop skills in
sentence formation
Read your child’s sounds/words/sentences out slowly while they listen and write down what
you have said. Once finished, go through them again and check with your child if they got
them right. This is a good indicator for what sounds/words/sentence skills they need to
work on.
Mrs Lockey.
