Class P1McC Date – Monday 11th May 2020 Teacher – Miss McColm
Alloway Primary School Home Learning
Literacy
We have now
learned the first
100 common words.
Please make time
to practice these
words every day so
that by the time
the P1 children go
to P2 they can
recognise all of
these tricky words!
REMEMBER – All
children are
different so work
at a pace that suits
your child – you
both know their
targets. If you
need further
support then please
send a message on
SeeSaw!
Today’s Learning Tasks
Task 1- Guided Reading
Today I would like you to access your guided reading book on Oxford Owl.
In your pack you were given an information sheet about your username and
password to get into Oxford Owl.
When you log into Oxford Owl, I would like you to find your e-book.
Biff Chip Kipper
Silver Foil Rocket
The King and His Wish
The Big Carrot
If you fancy giving yourself a challenge you can try another groups reading
book!
Task 2 – Have a Go
Choose any picture from the pack you were given.
Every Monday in school we do our “Have a Go” writing. The children are
confident in this now. They are given a line drawing of a detailed picture. It
changes each week. As a class, we discuss the picture. What can you see?
Who do you think the characters are? What is happening? Etc… lots of
discussion!
Then we talk about words we might need to use when writing about this
picture and we practice spelling/blending them out together.
The learning behind this task is really to give the children confidence to just
Have a Go! Lots of discussion is really useful and you may wish to model a
good sentence but then get rid of it. We aren’t looking for the children to
copy a good sentence – they will never learn. This task enables the children
to use all of their phonic knowledge and common words to write a sentence
on their own. Don’t worry about how they spell words, don’t correct them,
just let them go for it!
Maths
Task 1:
Number Talks
Number Talks encourages children to share their different mental math
processes aloud while the teacher records their thinking visually on a board.
Today I would like you to show your child the dot pattern picture. You can
also
replicate this picture onto a piece of paper if that is easier.
Ask your child:
What can you see? How many dots are there?
How do you know there are 10?
What different ways can you see 10? ( 4+3+2+1 or 6+4…)
Show your child you understand their thinking by drawing round the groups
of numbers they see or let them show you themselves.
Task 2: Addition and Subtraction
You have been working hard on your Subtraction workbook at your own pace.
Continue to do this if you have not finished!
We have now learned how to add and subtract numbers through active
games and completing our workbooks. Most of you are now working on your
fast recall of our number bonds to 10 and beyond.
I have attached a worksheet to the planner. The worksheet encourages
your child to look at the following number sentences and record whether
they are right or wrong. They will show their answer by using dots. This is
made clearer on the worksheet .
Additional weekly task:
Sumdog
A Sumdog challenge has been set for you. It begins at 9am today and you
will have until 3pm on Friday to complete! Enjoy!

Seesaw Activity
Today I thought we could experiment with some of the features on Seesaw.
There are little fun lessons available on Seesaw for your child to take part
in. Seesaw gives you clear instructions on how to complete the work. It then
sends me the work you have done electronically. This is our 1st time trying
this so don’t worry if it does not work accordingly. Hopefully your child will
enjoy working a little bit differently on this task.
You will get a notification when this Lesson becomes available on your child’s
profile.
Today’s lesson:
Mystery Science - Why do Baby Animals Look so Cute?
Science is all around us. Let's get ready to learn something new today with
Mystery Science!
There is no pressure to do any of these tasks! Do what you can. Thank you for your
efforts and cooperation - Miss McColm 😊
