Literacy Learning at PFCS.

Last week our Literacy Learning the focus was on Inferential Understanding; “Thinking Beyond the Text”. Today’s article is about getting your child to express an opinion about the story they have read or you have read to them. Parts 1,2 and 3 of Reading at Home have been for young readers of all ages. Next week we will focus of helping children who are just getting started with reading.

Working With Children Check ( Volunteer)

Several parents have asked about getting a Working With Children Check. Parents who are helping out in the classroom with reading, spelling, cooking or maths, do not require a WWC check. However, if you don’t have a WWC check you are unable to independently supervise a group of children or work one on one with a child, away from the classroom area. For example if you would like to assist with our gardening program and this involved supervising a group of children plant some seedlings, without a teacher present, you would require a WWC check. There are several types of WWC checks. For parent helpers the type you can get is a ‘Volunteer’ WWC check. The application form is obtainable from the post office. Once the application form is processed you will receive a card which looks something like a drivers licence. When you receive your WWC card please bring it to the office and we will take a copy of it and place your details in our WWC Check register. Any further infor-mation can be obtained from our office staff.

Reminders:

Assembly Friday

At this week’s assembly on Friday at 2:55 pm we will announce the point scores for last week’s Athletics Day and present the trophy to the winning team.

Teaching Time Starts at 9!

We have new a slogan ‘Teaching Time Starts at 9!’ to remind all students that it is important to be on time for school and to be in class when the 9 o’clock bell goes. Families should aim to have their children arrive at school around 8:45 to 8:50 am. Parents are able to speak to teachers between 8:45 am and 9:00 am.

Dogs in the school yard.

It is wonderful to see families walk their dogs to school to drop off and collect their children and there are no restrictions on them coming into the school grounds. However, for the safety of all children, particularly younger ones, please do not leave your dog unattended in the school grounds.

Addressing a Concern at school

A reminder that you can have a concern or query addressed, or offer a suggestion for the school by emailing Neil (Acting Prin-cipal) via the school’s email address. Alternatively, you can phone Neil via the office or call by and make an appointment.

Have a great week!

Neil Sproal (Acting Principal)

5/6’s core curriculum is centred around the preparation of the dinners which are to be held during the last week of term 1. Just a reminder to get your RSVPs in as we can only accommodate a maximum of 70 guests each evening. The dinners for 5/6T is Monday, 5/6D Tuesday and 5/6M will be on Wednesday of the last week of term one. Like other classes around the school, 5/6s are also busy with Folk Festival activities.

P/1’s— We have continued to work on writing complete sentences that make sense, as well as exploring syllables in words. In reading we are looking at punctuation and how a book works. In Maths we are ordering, making and writing numbers, as well as exploring the place value of two-digit numbers.

In 3/4 we have been creating fictional narratives with some very interesting problems that have needed to be solved. In Reading we have continued to touch on our personal experiences and attempt to connect them in some way to the text. In Maths our addition strategies are being utilised as we are creating and analysing number patterns. We’re all hoping to have our Folkie routine ship-shape for next week!

NetSetGo registration night is on Friday 18th of March from 5pm-6pm at the Netball courts at the Gardens Caravan Park Port Fairy. This night provides an opportunity to come along & experience some of the skills & drills the program offers. NetSetGO is available for all school aged children at the cost of $65 for the season. Looking for a parent/carer who can assist with registrations on this night.

The first session of NetsetGO will commence Friday 15th of April from 5:45-7pm.
