Following the viewing we will engage in a brief discussion. 2012 ACC STUDENT LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE The Center for Leadership and Civic Education is now accepting participant applications for the 2012 ACC Student Leadership Conference. This year’s conference will take place in Chapel Hill, North Carolina at the University of North Carolina from Friday, February 17 to Sunday, February 19. The 2012 ACC Leadership Conference is a threeday leadership learning opportunity for students to engage with peers across the Atlantic Coast Conference. Over the course of the conference, students will learn through interactive and dynamic sessions, keynotes, and handson group activities to apply the Social Change Model of Leadership to campus life and personal passions. This year’s conference theme centers on The Ethics of Globalization with a special focus on water. Click here for applications. Florida State Alternative Breaks creates extended experiences for students to impact a community outside of Tallahassee through quality service trips. An alternative break is an opportunity for a diverse group of students to serve others while creating a new bond. Participant Applications are due December 1 and can be found at the Center for Leadership & Civic Education website . GET INVOLVED WITH FLORIDA STATE CROP! The Florida State CROP (College Reach-Out Program) is looking for mentors who have tutoring experience in math (pre- algebra), science (chemistry/biology), and writing/reading. The mentors will report to one of two schools: East Gadsden High or West Gadsden High. Mentoring will take place between 2pm and 5pm. Mentors will also assist students in college prep workshops, which includes helping students fill out college applications. The application can be found on their website . FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE The 2012 Florida International Leadership Conference (FILC) countdown has begun. Breathe Easy is hosting the Great American Smoke Out to help educate smokers about quitting and inform the general population of FSU about the efforts being made to provide protection from exposure to secondhand smoke. The event is this Wednesday, November 30 from 10:30am-2pm. If your organization would like to participate by having a table or you would like to volunteer, please email Deanna at [email protected] for more information. FAMU-FSU ENGINEERS WITHOUT BORDERS 5K RUN FAMU-FSU Engineers Without Borders is hosting its annual 5K to help support their global humanitarian projects. This project is with a community along the Amazon River in Peru. Sign up as an individual or team, group discounts apply! Support them by participating or volunteering for this event. GLOBAL PEACE EXCHANGE Global Peace Exchange (GPE) is a student organization at Florida State University that coordinates and exposes students to international service-based exchange opportunities throughout the world. Their core values are simple, and important to their projects: Service, Education and Sustainability. GPE functions to foster the construction of a new civilization founded on mutual cooperation and understanding to support development and peace around the world. They currently have summer projects and are opening their application for community-based research this week. To learn more, go to their website. CAMP BOGGY CREEK IS LOOKING FOR GROUPS TO HELP Camp Boggy Creek (CBC) is a year round camp serving seriously ill children throughout Florida. They offer week-long summer sessions for the children and family retreat weekends for the whole family. There is no charge to come to Camp so they rely on the generous support of individuals, corporations, foundations and healthcare partners. They are currently signing up volunteers for one or more of these weekends and still have spots open for groups and individuals (especially lifeguards) at this time. Below shows the 8 disease-specific family retreat weekends scheduled: January 13-16 Spina Bifida (a 4-day event) January 20-22 Daibetes February 3-5 Heart February 10-12 Cancer February 24-26 Kidney w. IBD, Immune Deficiency, Transplant March 2-4 Arthritis/Rheumatic March 15-18 Asthma & Airways (4-day event)* March 23-25 Craniofacial April 13-15 Sickle Cell *This is CBC’s ASB. It has changed from a 5 day event (KOVAC) to a 4 day event (Asthma & Airways). Volunteers may arrive on Wednesday, March 14 between 3pm and 7pm.

Also, they are looking for certified lifeguards. MOELLERSHIP APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE Florida State University students can apply for a Moellership through The Center for Leadership and Civic Education. The Moelleship program provides selected students at Florida State University the opportunity to focus 8 – 12 weeks of their summer on full-time service at a non-profit agency. Selected applicants will receive a stipend for their participation in the program. Stipend awards may be up to $4,000, depending upon the location and duration of service. Examples of past projects have included working with people experiencing homelessness in Tallahassee, being a camp counselor for chronically ill children in California, working for a food bank in London, caring for HIV/AIDS patients in Spain, constructing a technology center in Rwanda, designing and constructing a chicken farm at an orphanage in Tanzania, and serving at an orphanage in India. Applications can be found on their website and are due Today, November 28. FSU MARKET DAY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Market Days is one of the Southeast’s largest arts and crafts shows, featuring the unique, handmade creations of approximately 300 artists and top quality crafts-makers. It also is a major fundraiser for the Tallahassee Museum, the capital city’s oldest museum, promoting conservation of regional history, culture and wildlife for over 50 years. Market Days 2011 will be taking place at the North Florida Fairgrounds on December 3 and 4. More information about the event is available online. Volunteers are needed to sell and collect tickets at the gates on South Monroe, Tram Road, Cox Stadium and Paul Russell road, from 7am until 5pm on Saturday and 9am until 5pm on Sunday. JOIN JUMPSTART FOR MLK DAY FSU’s Jumpstart Tallahassee is a national early education organization that helps children develop the language and literacy skills they need to be successful in school, setting them on a path to close the achievement gap before it is too late. On January 16, 2012 from 10am-2pm, they will be offering MLK day of service volunteer opportunity. Groups or individuals can sign up by filling out an application that can be picked up at the Jumpstart office (Lobby for the Center for Leadership & Civic Education) by January 9, 2010. They will be assigned an activity to run at the event such as a basketball tournament, bean bag toss, bounce house, bowling, face painting, beauty/tattoo parlor, organized kickball game, musical chairs, pipe cleaner activities, play-dough making, inflatable slide supervision, sack race, tug-o-war. MUSEUM SEEKS VOLUNTEERS FOR MARKET DAYS The Tallahassee Museum is in need of a number of volunteers to volunteer at the 46th annual Market Days Arts and Crafts festival at the North Florida Fairgrounds on December 3 and 4, 2011. Market Days is the biggest fundraiser for the Tallahassee Museum. Volunteers are needed to survey Market Days guests about their experience at the event and in Tallahassee while visiting if they are from out of town. Each volunteer is required to be mature, punctual and polite. Each volunteer shift will be approximately two hours long. CHECK OUT DANCEARTH FSU Dancearth FSU is a new chapter of the non-profit arts organization. This organization is dedicated to promoting environmental awareness and conservation using the art of dance. ATTEND 2012 MULTICULTURAL LEADERSHIP SUMMIT The Multicultural Leadership Summit (MLS), held on the Florida State University campus, focuses on building a foundation of knowledge that will enhance student success in leadership in the areas of multiculturalism and social justice. There will be three concurrent sessions corresponding with the following topics: Ethnic/Racial Identities, Multiple Identities (e.g., sexual orientation, gender, multiethnic identity, disability, etc.), and Leadership and Service. INTERNSHIPS & JOB OPPORTUNITIES INTERN AT THE FLORIDA HISTORIC CAPITOL MUSEUM

For the Spring 2012 semester, the Florida Historic Capitol Museum will be offering 2-3 Educational Programs Internships. These interns will help the museum develop its educational programming, which will include expanding our on- and off-site programs, developing our pre- and post- materials for teachers, and increasing our outreach to teachers statewide. These internships are unpaid. The deadline for applications is December 19, 2011 and internships will begin in mid-January 2012. WELLNESS PROMOTION INTERN WANTED Premier Health & Fitness Center is a 55,000 square foot, 8000 member center in northeast Tallahassee. It is owned by Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and the Well Wise health improvement program is a collaboration between Premier and the hospital. The program offers health screenings, health risk assessment and health promotion to businesses, organizations and individuals throughout the Big Bend area and beyond. Interns selected will work primarily in this program but may also assist with other programs at Premier. They are looking

for a professional with great people skills for this internship opportunity. Undergraduates who are well-advanced in their coursework are preferred, as well as graduate students. This internship is ideal for Exercise Science students but those in other health-related programs will also be considered. The right person in Business or Sports Management might also be a good fit. The number of hours the intern(s) can work, along with the number of suitable candidates, will determine how many are selected. The internship will be for the spring semester, 2012. INST ON PHILANTHROPY AND VOLUNTARY SERVICE The 2012 Institute on Philanthropy and Voluntary Service at Georgetown University is now accepting applications. This fast-paced, eight-week residential program provides students from around the world with opportunities to gain the edge in today’s competitive job market and graduate school admissions, experience the excitement of Washington first-hand, and dive into a summer of service in the Nation’s Capital. Students will be accepted on a rolling basis until the Final Deadline of March 3, 2011. Students applying by the Early Deadline of December 2, 2011 will be given preference in admissions and scholarship decisions and will receive a 5% discount on their tuition balance. An area known for its safety and friendliness to foreigners, yet historically rural and poor, Interns will have an opportunity to effect true change.
