UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE
EMPLOYMENT IN FISHING SECTOR
Employment practices and working conditions in Thailand’s fishing sector
Over the past four
decades, Thailand
has established itself
as one of the top fish
producing nations in
the world. In 1980s
there was a rapid
modernization and industrialization of the fleet. Recently, there has been
a significant decline in the catch due to overfishing
and increase in the costs of operating a fishing vessel
because of higher fuel prices. As a result of these, the
sector has seen dramatic changes in the workforce
and working conditions.
