2 | Affordable Tuition and Cost of Life

Lisbon is one of the cheapest cities in the European Union - 2nd and 6th place among 35 cities that are included in the ranking by Cushman & Wakfield in the years 2010 and 2011. 1 | Excellency in Education

Lisbon offers to students a qualified network of both public and private uni-versities and research centers, promoting close collaboration with institu-tions of higher education of international reference (MIT, Carnegie Mellon, Fraunhofer Institute).The Lisbon MBA was created as a partnership between the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, the Portuguese Catholic University, and the MIT Sloan Scho-ol of Management. The city as several others MBA`s and executive programs of high quality. Universities and Research Centers in Lisbon intensively promote the exchan-ge between teachers, students and researchers within various international cooperation programs, especially Erasmus. Lisbon received in 2010/11 approximately 2800 Erasmus students.

3 | Accommodation and Housing

Lisbon offers around 53 students residences, located preferentially in the city center, with easy access to different campus around the city.Lisbon also has various hostels, with reduced prices and high quality, having received several international awards.

4 | Sports and Great Climate

Lisbon was considered the 23rd World’s Best City to Live by Monocle Magazi-ne (July / August 2011).The sun shines 239 days a year! Lisbon has a Mediterranean climate and a unique light. It’s a city with a diverse offering of restaurants and bars set with excellent cuisine. The fact that Lisbon is the sunniest capital in Europe is an opportunity to practice sports such as jogging, biking, hiking, golf, horse riding, football or skateboard (longboard). The closeness to the river and the sea still let you rowing, canoeing, surfing and sailing or kitsurf. Two of the most spectacular sea fronts of Europe are situated in Guincho (at 25 min.) and Ericeira (at 35min.), the latter being the largest surfing reserve in Europe.

5 | Friendly People and a Friendly City

The Lisboners are friendly and spontaneous, 42% speak two foreign langua-ges and at least 23% speak three languages. The languages spoken are En-glish, French and Spanish. In Lisbon live peacefully numerous communities from Brazil, Cape Verde, Angola, Ukraine, India and China, among others.

6 | Culture and Creativity

History is in every corner when we walk throughout the old parts of Lisbon neighborhoods like Baixa, Alfama and Castelo. At night you can easily find places where you can hear Fado, the typical Lisbon song, recognized in 2011 by UNESCO as intangible heritage of humanity. There is always something going on in Lisbon, from major concerts to film and music festivals such as Rock in Rio 2012 or the Optimus Alive festival.Lisbon has a range of cultural facilities, shops and places of leisure with strong links to the traditional neighborhoods. A true creative city with a variety of film festivals, and more than 75 museums and galleries.

Security is one of the strengths of Lisbon, indeed the safest capital in Europe (Eurostat - 2010 report). Lisbon also appears in the top 50 cities with respect to personal security.Portugal has low indicators for violent crime and road accidents, being rated as the 13th safest country in the World (Global Peace Index).

8 | A Green City

The environmental sustainability is one of the strengths points of Lisbon. The city has a network of stations to supply electric cars and a network of cycle paths that connect residential areas, services and green areas, dedicated to those who intend to travel by bike. Besides the major green parks - Monsanto Forest Park and the Bela Vista Park - site of the Rock in Rio, all over the city there are several parks and gardens of historic and artistic interest, where you can relax or just enjoy the city.

9 | Leisure and Entertainment

Lisbon is a city where throughout the year happen events for all people, many of international notoriety (Eg Rock in Rio, Volvo Ocean Race and The Tall Ships Races visits Lisbon this year).Along the Tagus river (waterfront) there are numerous and diverse places to dine, drink or dance, for example, the Alcantara Docks. The area of Bairro Alto, where the original Fado houses where born, is now full of bars and small res-taurants. The bars close at 2am and nightclubs between 4am and 6am.

10 | A Cosmopolitan City open to the World

Lisbon is the Atlantic hub not only from Europe but also for Africa and the Americas. Portuguese Explorers sailed from the Tagus river in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries to give “new worlds to the world” (Luis de Camões in “Os Lusiadas”). Lisbon has always welcomed people and cultures which gives its inhabitants a spirit of great openness towards foreigners, as evidenced by the many favo-rable testimonies of those who work or study here.
