May 2013 Update Lions Sponsored Camps. (LSC) Preparing to board the bus to the April L.S.C are our Sponsored Children, Volunteers and many Lions who drove their sponsored children to the bus Our April Lions Sponsored camp was a huge success, and the Licola camp managers reported that they all left with a smile on their faces and a head full of stories to tell when they get back home. Once again our thanks go to all the clubs for their efforts to make this a great camp. Lions Sponsored Camps 2013 - September Dates Camp 268 : Monday 23rd to Friday 27th Sept, 2013 Now is the time to start obtaining your club application forms from our web site www.licola.org.au for the September camp. It would be fantastic if we can sponsor 100 children to attend this, there are just so many deserving children who would benefit from a short stay at Licola. If you have any queries please contact Noeline Birnie 0458 795 275 or email [email protected] Camp leaders and volunteers Last month we mentioned the need for volunteers to help at our L.S.C’s, to date the response has been negligible so once again we are asking for you help. Please contact Sudge at Licola 5148 8791 or [email protected] if you can help or would like more information. Over 50’s Activities Week in October Applications have started to come in for this camp but we still would like more. One club member recently printed offf the information and handed it on the activities committee at his nearby retirement village. This was well received as they were in the process of looking for something different to do. If any Lions have a contact with a similar organization please consider doing the same. All the information is on our website. Look under LIONS and click on Over 50’s.or you can contact Ken Johnston - 9749 3408 if you would like more information. Working Bee 2013 31 May to 7 June 2013 The response to this working Bee has been slow however there is quite a bit to be done. The work is very rewarding and the camaraderie is great. It is not just for the Men, Ladies are welcome too. Please contact Adam or Sudge first to book your accommodation. The camp will be fully catered so we like to know the numbers as soon as possible. What else is happening at Licola? Several good things have happened in the last month. The first is that Gerard O’Toole is making a good recovery from his stroke. The next is that the Teachers Strike has been resolved and we have been able to reschedule all of the affected schools, with bookings in the second half of this year. Great work by the team at Licola. We have just said farewell to the N4 Special needs Camp. They have been coming down from NSW now for 30 years, and will be back again next year. This is an extraordinary effort by the group organisers and a credit to Licola that we offer so much that they want to return each year. General maintenance Last month we reported that trees had to be removed near houses 5 & 6. Shortly after that a large white ant nest was discovered in the tree base and roots. This has now been destroyed and we are arranging to have a proper inspection to ensure that our houses are not at risk. “Oh the pleasures of country life.” We have had a lot of activity from Lion Clubs coming up to work on their various houses; it is a constant effort to keep the maintenance up to date but also a very rewarding time. Thanks to you all. If you have any questions about what we can offer at Licola please contact Adam or Sudge on 5148 8791 or [email protected]
