Creating your layout

Joining the track sections

Join the track sections together by inserting the pins of each track section into the rail opening of the other section. Refer to Figure 1. Pins must be fully inserted and track joints

tightly fitted for good electrical contact. The plastic track sections snap together to assure correct assembly. If the rail openings have become enlarged and fit together loosely, pinch the rail around a track pin with a pair of pliers. If any pins fall out of the track, be sure to replace them.

The rails should be kept clean, dry, and free from oil and grease. Remove corrosion and dirt spots with any commercial non abrasive metal polishing pad to keep your track in top condition. Wipe the track with a clean soft cloth dampened with track cleaner from the Lionel Lubrication and Maintenance Set (6-62927).

MUSICThree moret holiday tunes will now be played by your train. Press the music button and the first song played will be from your new Calliope Wagon. Press it again to advance to the next song, which will be one of the original bell songs from your Holiday Tradition Express set. The songs will alternate between calliope and bell songs each time you press the button.

The holiday tunes play only when the locomotive is moving forward.

Operating the calliope car

Installing the new calliope song cartridge

Turn the calliope car over and locate the song cartridge clipped to the bottom of the car. Remove it from its holder and install it into the receptical provided for it in the cab of the Holiday

Tradition Expess engine. The cartridge is keyed to only fit into the slot one way. See Figure 4.Its recommended that when you pack the train and cars away after the holidays, remove the

Maintaining and servicing your set

Cleaning the track

From time to time, it is important to clean the top surface of the track rails. This can be done with a soft cloth or non abrasive metal cleaning cloth. Failure to do this periodically

will cause the train to run erratically, and eventually it will stop running altogether.

Troubleshooting

Train will not run and lights are not on.• Be sure that all track sections are securely connected.• Check that the wire connecting the locomotive and coal tender is securely in its socket.• Inspect all power connections (the AC adapter and the wire connecting the AC adapter to

the Lockon).• Be sure that the Power Lockon is securely connected to one of the tracks with the notched

sections.

Train will not run but lights are on. • Replacement lamps are available at your authorized Lionel Service Center or from Lionel

Service in Chesterfield, Michigan. This bulb is a standard micro light used on most common holiday light strings.

• Check that the wire connecting the locomotive and coal tender is securely in its socket.• Replace the batteries in the Remote Controller.• Move the locomotive out of direct sunlight. Note that the controller is infra red and, like

television controllers, will not work in strong or direct sunlight.

Lights on some cars are not lit.• Check to see that all the wheels of the cars not lit are on the tracks.• Be sure the power pickups between the wheels are clean.• Be sure the wire connecting the locomotive and coal tender is securely in its socket.

Music does not play.• Be sure the train is moving forward. The music does not play when the train is in reverse.• Press the VOLUME button on the controller.
