Doana National Park is the most well-known and amazing natural area in Spain.
One of the biggest ecological preserve in Europe. Its dunes, reserves, seasonal
wetlands, lakes and river-side forests are protected by different legal laws,
amongst which the national park and the game reserve are the most relevant.
Located in the catchment area where river Guadalquivir born, its proximity to the
African continent and the influence of the neighboring seas gives this area
a biodiversity of international importance. In these settings, where nature
overwhelms the traveler, certain emblematic species find refuge, such as
the Iberian lynx and the Spanish imperial eagle, both of which are native Iberian
species in danger of extinction.

Park.
Our accompanying naturalist will give us a brief
talk to give us our bearings and help us settle in
to Doana. We will be staying in the small village
of Roco, one of the most characteristic and
unique in Andalusia. From there we can observe
the marshlands and its birds, serving as a pleasant introduction to our tour.
Following dinner, we will go out to see and photograph one of the most famous sights in Doana,
the basilica of Roco, fully lit and reflected in the water.

they seek shelter beneath the mastic trees. We will cross areas where the centuries-old cork oak
trees testify to the preserves ancient vegetation.
We have a marshland-styled brunch in la Galvija, the former house to the guardians of el Coto delRey. After brunch, we follow the bank where the grounds and the marsh meet; an area rich in prey,
and therefore in predators also. Rabbits, deer and fallow deer graze along the bank stalked by thelynx. The raptors are plentiful as they patrol their hunting grounds. Among them we find the
imperial eagle, the booted eagle, the black kite, the red kite, griffon vultures, goshawks, Eurasianeagle-owls, blue-winged kites, or the merlin bird may be a surprising sight, depending on the time
of year. We arrive at the marshland where we will continue to observe the fauna in a new habitat.
This is the kingdom of aquatic life. Flamingos, red-knobbed coots, the squacco heron, anatidae,
purple swamphens...it is an endless list of the fantastic birdlife found in the marshes. Our
accompanying naturalist, as well as our local guides will at all times be explaining the ecosystemswe visit, and will help us to identify the wildlife we find in Doana. We return to Roco for lunch and
rest. We depart in the evening, around sunset, to resume our attempts at making a sighting of theIberian lynx.
We then return to Roco again for dinner.

After breakfast we will take a new route at dawn along el Coto del Rey, in search of lynxes. The lynxpopulation serves as a source of specimens that repopulate adjacent territories.
On our return, we visit Rocina forest and the historic Acebrn palace. We will make a journey on
foot along one of the oldest and best conserved riverside forests on the Peninsula. In its streams
and ponds reigns the otter, which one can see if luck prevails. Return to Roco and departure.
We end a unique and exclusive tour which would be any naturalists dream.

CONTRIBUTION TO THE COMMUNITYIn addition to the environmental benefits, these actions have created jobs and income in the
municipalities of lynx areas. In this sense, this initiative have generated about 30,000 wages in the
provinces of Huelva, Cordoba and Jaen, to which must be added the tender, for an amount of
6,816,063 euros, forestry work to improve habitats (clearing, pruning, etc..), of which 486 small
companies have benefited Andalusia
The success of these programs has led to the approval by the European Commission of a Third Life
to continue the work done in recent years from Andalusia and thereby support the recovery of the
Iberian lynx. This project, called Iberlince, aims to increase the number of their populations by
reintroducing in Portugal, Extremadura, Castilla-La Mancha, Murcia and Andalusia, thus reducing
the degree of threat to the species and proposed its reclassification to the International Union for
the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), to a lower category of threat by international standards. In this
LIFE PROJECT are involved a total 19 partners, including governments, corporations, associations
and non-governmental organizations, which will enable the successful reintroduction of the Iberian
lynx.

A little less than a decade, this experience unique
moves and tourists from around the world was
almost unthinkable lynx simply because there was
to see. There were 94 in Andalusia, which is likesaying in the world. And only two stable
populations separated by hundreds of kilometers:
Doana and Andjar. The species, without human
intervention, was doomed to extinction. Today, the
number of copies released has increased by more
than three to reach 309 in the last official census
(2012) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and
Environment is actively engaged in two areas of reintroduction (Guarrizas in Jaen and
Guadalmellato in Cordoba) and the successful captive breeding program that every year allowsjuveniles to release in the wild.
ECOWILDLIFE actively working with local authorities on developing sustainable tourism projects
and the entire management of their projects are carried out with local communities in order to
contribute to its development. All accommodations and services used are part of the Spanish
Network of Rural Tourism and the guides are eradicated in the territory where they operate these
