File Formats

• Revit files → DWFx™ = Design Web Format

• Highly compressed, reduces file size significantly, easier to transmit and store

• Secure Autodesk file format to view, review or print design files

• Retains object data (most importantly)

• Designers can publish a model and sheets (all within a single DWFx™ file)

• Edit the content of the DWFx™ to limit what the recipients sees.

• This doesn’t work for IFCs as this is a model file type, DWFx™ is both 2D and 3D

• CostX® Drawing File Optimisation Guide for best practice

– Revit

• Revit model → Generate views and sheets with title blocks

• Publish model to DWFx™

– CostX® – Drawing Sets

• Linking a model with its 2D views and sections; Architectural, Structural, MEP

• Created automatically if bound together by designer

• Drawing sets can be created at any time

Why is this so important?

• Essential design information on 2D sheets & views

– Key notes

– Specification

• Missing geometry

• Zoning of quantities

• Measuring directly from sections

• Being able to interpret drawings in a more familiar fashion

More reasons

• It’s a perspective of the model that everyone is used to!

• Helps massively for checking the accuracy of quantities in the model

• Predominantly bills produced in Ireland and Middle East and having just a model can prove difficult for intricate measures

• Our clients across the world request DWFs which is a safe and secure file format that retains object information.

Model Activity

Structural - Checking

• Checking the quantities of the floor slab

• Area, Length & Volume

Architectural - Measurement• Measuring items in 2D that may not be modelled in Revit

• Timber Skirting

MEP - Zoning• Using the 2D views to allocate dimensions into Zones

• Lighting fixtures zoned to schedule the order of installation
