Overview:

The “Four Marks” of the Catholic Church have been clearly recognized since the First Council of Nicea in 325 CE. When St. Athanasius presented to the Council Fathers his Creed, he identified the core beliefs of all Christians. In the Nicene Creed, this Eastern

Father stated the four marks of the Church as: One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic. All four of these elements are necessary to constitute a living and saving lineage back to Christ

and the community that he called into being.

The Apostolic mark, refers back to the indisputable belief that authentic Christian communities are borne of authentic Ministers celebrating the sacraments, especially the

Eucharist. For these ministers to be authentic, they must be direct recipients of the Gift of the Holy Spirit, through the laying on of hands, by a bishop who is also a direct recipient

of the same gift through the hands of another bishop, and so on. No one can claim valid ordained ministry in the Catholic Church if they cannot trace the origins of their ministry

back to a bishop who can trace their lineage back to one of the Apostles.

Apostolic Succession is the litmus test for all communities that call themselves Catholic.

On October 3, 2009 at a solemn Mass of Consecration held at the Good Shepherd

Lutheran Church in Frederick, MD by the Presiding Archbishop of the American Catholic Church in the United States. The Most Reverend Lawrence J. Harms consecrated William A. Johnson through the laying on of hands. Two other bishops of Apostolic Succession assisted Archbishop Harms in the sacred task of passing onto Bishop William the gift of

the Episcopacy by the grace of the Holy Spirit. The co-consecrating bishops were:

1. Most Reverend Carl Gregory Purvenas-Smith, OSB (CACINA) 2. Most Reverend Michael Bernard Norton (formerly of CACINA)

By the laying on of hands, each of these Catholic bishops transmitted to Bishop William A. Johnson a lineage of succession that is traced back to the Apostles along 11 valid lines of

succession:

1. Duarte-Costa Line (Roman) 2. Utrecht Line (Roman)

3. Milingo (Roman) 4. Greek Orthodox Line

5. Russian Orthodox Line 6. Albanian Orthodox Line
