MANHATTAN SPECIFIER’S GUIDE 3

CARCASE MATERIAL KEY FEATURES

l All carcase units are produced from 16mm high density (660-670Kg/cubic

metre) melamine faced particle board. This is manufactured to BS EN 312-1, Class

1, low formaldehyde content and BS EN 312 Part 2 and meets the requirements of

both BS EN 7331, 1990 and BS 5669.

l All exposed ends are lipped using high quality 0.4mm matching PVC edging,

applied using a combination of hot melt glue, heat and pressure, which meets the

requirements of BS6250 and BS6222 Part 3, 1993 for moisture and heat resistance.

l All interiors are colour matched to the exterior of the carcase.

l End panels and display units are supplied in either white or a variety of

wood-grain MFC effects to co-ordinate with individual ranges.

HINGE KEY FEATURES

All carcase units are supplied with top quality, fully concealed hinges.

l Tested to BS6222 Part 2, Level H.

l Tested to 200,000 opening/closing cycles. Interestingly, a 15 year research study

showed that the most commonly used doors in the kitchen are opened and closed

up to 170,000 times in a 15 year period. Our hinges are therefore fit for at least 20

years of service.

l Hinge mounting plates are attached to the carcase by Euroscrews to provide

greater strength and durability.

l All hinges are supplied with stainless steel decorative cover caps.

l 107o opening hinges are supplied as standard.

l 172o

opening hinges are available on request.

l Option to have soft closing hinges, available as a upgrade for 107o & 172o opening

hinges available on request.

DRAWER SYSTEM KEY FEATURES

All Manhattan ranges come fitted with a metal-sided drawer system.

l Tested to BS6222 Part 2 1992, Level H, to ensure strength and durability.

l Pressed steel mounting brackets enable perfect alignment of drawer fronts.

l Long self closing action enables drawers to close at the slightest touch with Silent

running roller system.

l Manufactured from pressed formed high quality steel, with drawer sides and

runners finished in long lasting epoxy coating, with easily replaceable components in

the event of accidental damage

l Solid drawer bottom and back, manufactured from 16mm MFC to match the

carcase colour.

l Option to have soft closing drawers available as a upgrade, the drawer are twin-

walled with full extension runners, this option will be available for all base and tall

units.D

ADJUSTABLE LEGS KEY FEATURES

Manhattan’s Base, Highboard and Tall units are fitted with adjustable legs to

provide the following benefits;

l More accurate levelling of units to compensate for uneven floors, thus reducing

installation time and eliminating the need for packing wedges.

l Protection from moisture and flooding by keeping the units 150mm clear of the

floor.

l Provision of a natural service zone for plumbing, electric’s and ducting, enabling

services to run at skirting board level and facilitating installation. This also

ensures flush fitting of appliances.

l Better load distribution, thus reducing stress on fittings and joints.

l Easier fixing of plinth's.

l Allows flooring to be fixed after the installation of the units.

l 107o 3-way adjustable, fully concealed ‘Clip’ hinges

(172o hinges are available as an option).

l Absence of back panel allows direct access to

plumbing and removes the need for an unsightly

notched panel.

l Shortened bottom panel with upturn provides a

70mm void for pipework and services to enter the

carcase.

l UPVC door closing strip to 800, 1000 & 1200mm

units.

l A back panel can be supplied as an optional extra.

WALL UNIT KEY FEATURES

l 316mm deep carcase to provide the additional

storage space so often needed.

l Concealed wall hanging brackets are 3-way

adjustable to ensure perfect alignment and maximum

loading capacity.

l Mini-fix cam dowel construction with additional

wooden dowels for extra strength and rigidity.

l Foil wrapped MDF mullions to 800, 1000 & 1200mm

units.

l Rear MFC blocks glued to the 800, 1000 & 1200mm

units for extra strength and rigidity.

l 8mm solid back panels to wood-grain effect display

units.

A benefit of achieving such high standards is that Manhattan achieves an HAPM life

assessment of 20 years for carcase components and 25 years for doors and drawer

fronts. Housing Association Property Mutual is a club consisting of more than 130

housing associations that provides insurance against premature failure of

components, materials and assemblies in new and refurbishment schemes. The

scheme is underpinned by a manual of lifespans that provide a series of generic

specifications for each component

BRITISH SAFETY COUNCIL AWARD

Manhattan is a member of the British Safety Council and has regularly received the

British Safety Council award.

INDEPENDENT CERTIFICATION

The first kitchen manufacturer to be awarded the Furniture Industry Research

CODING GUIDELINES

Most single door cabinets have left or right hand opening doors and it is therefore essential to quote the correct type when ordering. A door with hinges to the left

hand side as you are facing the cabinet is a left hand unit, a door with the hinges to the right hand side is a right hand unit.

If an open end display unit is specified on the right hand end of a run of base or wall units, please specify a right hand unit. Likewise, if it is specified on the left at the

end of a run of base or wall units, please specify a left hand unit.

Similarly, all base and base sink corner cabinets can be left or right handed. If the blanking panel is to the left when facing the cabinet, please specify a left hand

model; if the blanking panel is to the right, please specify a right hand unit.

Base sink cabinets can also be left or right handed. If the draining board is to be fitted to the left of the unit, please specify a left hand model; if the draining board is

to be fitted to the right, please specify a right hand model.

1: Order the base or tall unit that needs an extra deep end as a

standard unit code. Then add SJC A5666 so the extra deep end can

be added to the correct unit on the order

2: Order the extra deep end panel to suit that unit, using the new

codes. Then add SJC A5666 so the extra deep end can be added to

the order.

Manhattan can supply both highboard and tall housing units to accommodate a wide selection of built in ovens, refrigerators, freezers, microwaves and combinations.

The appliance manufacturer and model must be specified when ordering to enable us to prepare exact sizes and if necessary, detail special units to suit individual

requirements.

Where the appliance height is less than the aperture size, an infill panel is fitted.

All appliances must be fitted strictly in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

Please check the manufacturer’s appliance instructions with regard to specific ventilation requirements: it may be necessary to notch the plinth locally.
