Protection and ControlThe D30 is a cost effective distanceprotection relay intended for protectingsub-transmission lines and undergroundcables of different voltage levels. Distance Protection

The core of theD30 relay is the distancefunction providing high degree ofsensitivity and selectivity for all types offaults. The D30 comes with three zonesof phase distance and ground distanceproviding the user maximum flexibility tocater for different applications, includingprimary sub-transmission line protectionand back-up protection for busbars, EHVand HV transmission lines, generators,transformers and reactors. The relaycan be applied to power systems withdifferentearthingconditions,lineswithin-zone transformers or tapped transformerfeeders, and overhead lines with seriescompensation. Each zone element forthe phase and ground distance canbe independently set as Quad or Mhocharacteristics with the flexibility ofdesigningdifferentcharacteristicshapesto

Phase distance elements in the D30can be used to detect faults throughdifferent types of three-phase wye/deltatransformers, allowing application of theD30 forbackupprotectionongenerators.VTsandCTscanbeinstalledindependentlyon either side of the power transformer.The relay automatically compensates fortransformer connections, to guaranteeaccuratereachforanytypeoffault.

The integrated fault locator providesdistance to fault in km or miles. Parallelline zero-sequence current compensationand load current compensation enablestheD30toprovideimprovedaccuracyforfaultdistancemeasurement.

Line Pickup (switch-on-to-Fault)

TheLinePickupfeatureusesacombinationof undercurrent and undervoltage to

identifyalinethathasbeende-energized(line end open). Three instantaneousovercurrentelementsareusedto identifya previously de-energized line that hasbeenclosedontoafault.

Power swing Detection

Dynamic transients in the power systemduetoshort-circuits,circuit switching,orloadchangescantravelacrossthepowernetwork as power swings characterizedby fluctuatingcurrentsandvoltages.Thiscan result in unwanted tripping sincedistance elements can respond to thesepower swings as faults. The D30 swingdetection element provides both powerswing blocking and out-of-step trippingfunctions. The element measures thepositive sequence apparent impedanceandtracesitslocuswithrespecttoeitheratwoorthreestepuserselectablemhoorquadoperatingcharacteristics.
