Twenty-five sales ago, Clarence and Betty Mason came to Isabel and bought our high-selling bull, LT Unlimited Chaps. Clarence told me that summer that he wanted to have the best herd of Charolais cows in South Dakota. He and his son, David, have selected and culled and brought Clarence’s dream to fruition. Clarence was a master stockman, farmer and cattle feeder. In addition, the thousands of cedar trees planted on their Prairie Valley ranch at Platte, S.D., were a tribute to his love of conservation. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Clarence was a true gentleman in every sense of the word, and comfort can be seen in all that he left behind.

Jennie Collins represents the best of a hard-working, caring ranch wife. She and Bob, who were married for 61 years, raised a family, built a ranch and a life together south of Faith, S.D. Jennie worked alongside Bob with the cattle and sheep and, for many years, bum lambs. She would milk cows twice a day and when Bob was gone trucking she, along with the children, would do all the chores - feeding cows and chopping ice 11 miles from the place. Year after year some of the highest priced Charolais-cross calves sold each fall in America came off of the Colllins Ranch. Jennie showed her faith by example. She was always the first to send a thank you card or show her appreciation to others. Bob and Jennie have been a big part of our annual sale for many years. She will be truly missed.
