****From the Community Association Institute**** TAKE ACTION! THE DISASTER ASSISTANCE EQUITY ACT OF 2017 Did you know that if a natural disaster strikes your community association, your neighborhood WILL NOT qualify for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) assistance? Representative Sanford (R-SC) introduced the Disaster Assistance Equity Act of 2017 as a solution to become eligible for assistance from FEMA to help in the recovery efforts of a natural disaster. This is a bill that specifically qualifies community associations for federal disaster assistance. Major natural disasters quickly exhaust association budgets and leave homeowners facing significant special assessments to pay for debris removal or to fund repairs that exhaust insurance proceeds. Nearly 70 million people live in America’s community associations, storms don’t discriminate, neither should FEMA. Take 5 minutes to email your Representative and ask them to co-sponsor H.R. 3238, The Disaster Assistance Equity Act of 2017. For more information on disaster assistance visit: www.caionline.org/FEMA

KathrynHoffmannistheCrimePreventionPractitionerwiththeFortMyersPoliceDepartment.TheCommunity Involvement Coalition is a program of mutual assistance among neighbors aimed at reducing crime in our communities. It establishes communication between neighbors as well as a formal network between the community and police regarding neighborhood crime related problems.
WHAT IS COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT COALITION? • The community involvement coalition is designed as a volunteer citizen driven and operated neighborhood steering committee that will; • Oversee district meetings • Disseminate information to neighborhoods and community involvement coalition team leaders • Schedule guest speakers • Collect district criminal statistics • Record neighborhood problems and concerns and forward them to appropriate departments • Liaison to the community involvement coalition team leaders NOTE: We encourage the current neighborhood watch coordinators to serve on their district steering committee. Town Hall meeting will be held in August - (date not set yet at the time of this newsletter mailing) Check with Howard if you are interested in attending. Remember…If you park cars in your driveway, always keep your car LOCKED. Never leave valuables inside a car overnight. Better yet, organize your garage so that you can store your cars inside.
