Track and Field Event Ribbons

At the end of last term, our placegetters in the School Track and Field events were presented with their

ribbons. Congratulations to all students who placed in these events and best wishes to those who will go

on to compete in the Zone Carnival this term.

Killara Schools Partnership Year 4 Boys Drama

On 3 July a group of eager and excited Year 4 students from Lindfield, Roseville and Gordon East Public

schools took a trip to Killara High School to find out what it is like in a high school drama class. Directed

by Year 9 students Joel E, Jack K, Kiyarash H and Edward S-L, under the supervision of Ms Laura

McKinnon, the primary school students played a variety of ice breaking and improvisation games. They

then learned the objective of rehearsing and performing a script. Pairs of students took to the challenge

of performing scenes with commitment, learning new techniques from the drama students to improve

their acting skills. They then took turns to perform their play in front of their peers. Their positive attitude

ensured excellent performances that demonstrated their newly tapped skills and confidence.

P&C Run Working Bee

We are asking the Garden Club, students, teachers and our parent community to help with the P &C Run National ‘Plant a Tree Day’ that is being held this Sunday 29 July. Please see the flyer attached later in the Lines.

School ‘Plant a Tree Day’, Poster Competition and ‘A Splash of Green’

Each year, around 3,000 schools across Australia take part in Schools ‘Plant a Tree Day’. Lindfield

Public School will be participating in ‘Plant a Tree Day’ on Friday 27 July, during the school day. On this

day students are invited to wear ‘A Splash of Green’. They wear their full school uniform and then can

add a splash of green in the form of hair bands, wrist bands, socks, ribbons, green hat etc.

Thank you to all the students who participated in the Garden Club Poster Competition. Entries have

been displayed around the school and winners will be informed later in the term.

History and Claymation in Stage 2

Students in Stage 2 enjoyed their Claymation incursion in Term 2. Students wrote a story and created an

animation including audio. In History, they produced outstanding projects based on information learnt in

their unit ‘First Contacts’. These included board games, musical performances and dioramas. Students

also learnt how to draw a tall ship.

Grandparent’s Day and Open Day

We are looking forward to seeing you all in Week 3 on Wednesday 8 August to celebrate Education Week by having an Open Day and Grandparent’s Day. Please see the attached flyer outlining the day later in the lines. Class parents have been asked to organise 7 plates of food (no nuts please) from each class to assist in catering for our lovely guests. The plates of food will need to be delivered to the Canteen by 9am on Wednesday 8 August. We will also need 8 volunteers (in total), from 10:45am till 12 midday, to assist with serving the tea, coffee and food and to help with the clean up afterwards. If you can help, please contact your class parent.

ICAS English Competition

A reminder that the English ICAS Competition will take place on Tuesday morning before school next week. Only students who had their notes and payment in last term will be able to attend. Students need to meet outside the 4K and 4BR classrooms on ‘mini-pool’ at 7:45am.

Teachers vs Students Basketball

To end the term, students in Year 6 took on the teachers in a fast paced game of basketball. The

teachers were surprised by how quick the students were. They raced up the court and scored many

goals.

Work on Display

Anaphylaxis at Lindfield Public School At Lindfield Public School in 2018, we have a small number of children with a potentially life threatening

allergic reaction. They are found across our school from Kindergarten to Year 6.

How can parents help these children?

If possible, choose alternative sandwich spreads to peanut butter and Nutella. If you have

no alternative, inform your child that these foods can trigger an anaphylactic reaction.

Reinforce the school’s NO FOOD SHARING message.

Please note, no students are allowed to bring

glass bottles to school for safety reasons

Sport

Dear Parents/Carers

This year our school has registered to participate in the NSW Premier’s Sporting Challenge.

The purpose of the Challenge is to encourage students to participate in sport and physical activity to

lead a healthy lifestyle.

Over a ten week period between 24 July 2017 and 28 September, Lindfield Public School will be

monitoring physical activity levels during class time, at recess and lunch as well as during sport

lessons. Physical activity outside school hours will also count towards the Challenge award. The aim

is to work towards an average at least 60 minutes of activity a day for ten weeks.

Our school will be working towards an individual student award at the conclusion of the Challenge.

We would like to invite families to support us in encouraging students’ healthy use of leisure time

and to experience the joy of being active together.

For primary students: Each student in years 3-6 will be issued with a logbook to record their daily

physical activity. Whilst K-2 students will work towards a Gold class award level.

Students completing the Challenge will receive a personalised certificate (Diamond, Gold, Silver or

Bronze), signed by the Premier of New South Wales.

Physical activity is valued for its physical, social and emotional benefits. It also helps young people

to develop communication skills, confidence and resilience.

If you would like to discuss any aspect of the Challenge, please contact Mr Tim Elsley who will be

pleased to talk further with you.

Yours sincerely

Mr Tim Elsley

5 weeks to go!

All books need to be logged online via the NSW PRC website using your child’s individual login details by Friday 31 August. This is the same username and password they use to access computers and the internet at school. Years 3-6 students are given time to complete their records online during Library lessons.

The Premier’s Reading Challenge team has designed a new student website that can be used to search for PRC book recommendations via genre or grade levels, create reading wish lists and to add books much more easily to their Student Reading Records! You can still add books on the original webpage. Check out the new site by going to http://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/studentExperience.html#/ Click the ‘Log in’ link in the top right hand corner of the website to sign in. Renee Chapman and Emily Hodges Teacher Librarians

Welcome back. We hope you had an enjoyable school holiday break and are all set for Term 3.

The survey results are in!

Thank you to everyone – parents, teachers and students – who participated in the survey, the response

rate was great. The responses enabled the school and P&C to prioritise work to be done.

There was very strong support for:

an outdoor learning space with seats and tables where a whole class can go and complete an activity; and

plants, trees and more shade on Palm Playground.

These are our fundraising priorities for 2018 and we will keep you regularly updated on these important

projects and the funds raised.

Another area where there was high interest was for more shade for the Pool Playground area. This will

be a challenging project. P&C will work with the school to see how this might be achieved.
