Lindfield Lines
Term 1 Week 10 3 April 2019 Principal: Megan Lockery
Deputy Principal K-2: Angela Mustaca
Relieving Deputy Principal 3-6: Cyrus Katrak
Principal’s Message
Lindfield Blue Assembly
Yesterday we celebrated the achievements of our students in Term 1.
In particular, we presented 11 students with their Lindfield Blue and two
students received their Lindfield Pride Pin – Claire B and Vivienne A-G.
Congratulations to these students who have shown outstanding school
citizenship in following the ROAR expectations with enthusiasm.
We were entertained by the Vivaldi string ensemble, conducted by Mr
Mansukani. They beautifully played ‘Vortex’ by Robert Longfield. Well
done Vivaldi!
I chose to highlight the Growth Mindset message ‘We Like Challenges’
and pointed out strategies to help when faced with a big challenge.
Students could:
Be grateful for friends, teachers or adults who can help you through
the challenge
Use a positive mindset and ask yourself, ‘What can I learn from
this?’
What character strengths do I possess that could help me through
this challenge? eg honesty, forgiveness, teamwork, humour or hope.

100% hOPE Ugandan Choir
Last night over 500 people attended our 100%hOPE Choir concert to celebrate hope with our special
guests from Uganda. It was a wonderful night of high energy dancing and singing and the choir members
gave us all an insight into their lives in Uganda. Our Lindfield PS Choir also performed as we shared our
cultures and learnt about resilience and understanding. Thanks to everyone for attending and to Sarah
Rosewell Easdown, Miss Waters, Miss Mustaca and the team of helpers for organising this event. The
Social Justice Committee will continue to support this charity as we raise funds to build classrooms and
accommodation for the girls.
Maintenance in the School Holidays
During the Easter School Holidays we have been fortunate to have extensive maintenance work
scheduled. This will include roof replacement on the Admin Block (including the senior classrooms) and
possibly other blocks. In addition, replacement of the concrete steps on Pool Playground will take place.
As these are major works, the Pacific Highway Carpark and the top section of the school will be closed
off for Health and Safety reasons. Vacation Care at Lindfield Activity Centre and swimming will take
place but the Pool Toilets will not be available. Please use the K-2 toilets during the holidays. Entry to
the school for Vacation Care and Swimming will be available via Grosvenor Rd.
Flexible Furniture at LPS
At the last P&C meeting, I gave a presentation of how we are creating learning spaces using a variety of
different flexible furniture items such as lap desks, stools, whiteboard tables, semi-circular tables, stand
up desks and cushions. This is truly enhancing our teaching and learning at LPS.

Girls School Uniform Options
In order to comply with amendments to the School Uniform Policy, a committee was formed to consider
how Lindfield PS could include pants and shorts options for girls. The committee consists of parent and
teacher representatives and the Clothing Pool staff. During the last few months we have been
considering options and collecting samples and I thank the committee members for their time and input.
The proposed options include:
Winter - tailored grey trousers with the long sleeved unisex shirt and tie currently worn with the tunic and
boys trousers; trouser cost is $42.
Summer – Girls could choose between grey unisex shorts (currently worn by the boys) with the blue
unisex short sleeved shirt or a grey skort with the blue unisex short sleeved shirt. The shorts cost $18
but as the skort would have to be custom made we have no price yet.
Samples of these items were shown at last month’s P&C meeting and will be on display in the office
foyer from tomorrow.
Please note that these will be additional options for girls to wear and will not be mandatory. In Summer,
the girls pale blue tunic will still be available and in Winter, the girls grey tunic will still be available. Some
families may choose to purchase both trousers /shorts/skorts and a tunic - this decision is yours to make.
The next step is to gain feedback from the community. If you would like to comment, slips will be
available in the Office foyer or you can email the school on [email protected] by the end
of the term. If there is positive feedback about the trousers we will be able to order them early next term
in time for Winter changeover as this item is an ‘off the shelf’ garment made by Midford.
Here are some photos of the proposed options but please note that the skort would be in grey (not navy
as shown in the sample).

The Resilience Project
We are very happy to announce that ‘The
Resilience Project’ will continue at our
school this year. The program focuses on
the three keys to resilience, which are
gratitude, empathy and mindfulness. A
parent workshop will take place in our
School Hall next Monday 8 April from
7pm. The presenter will be Hugh van
Cuylenburg, the founding director of the
Resilience Project. Hugh has extensive
experience talking to many schools, sporting teams and corporate groups and will empower parents in
making positive decisions regarding their children’s wellbeing. We highly recommend that you attend this
free workshop to learn about supporting your children to become more resilient. A note gone has been
sent home regarding this event, please complete the bottom slip and return to the Administration Box.
This workshop is not suitable for children so no students are permitted.
Athletics Carnival – save the date
The Years 3-6 Athletics Carnival will take place on the students’ first day of Term 2, Tuesday 30 April. A
permission note for the Carnival will be sent home this week. Our PE teachers have been working hard
with students in practising many fundamental Athletics skills.
5V Assembly Item and Gold Awards
Class 5V presented their item about Papua New Guinea and through song, taught us some key facts
about this country such as temperature and capital city. As part of their study of Asian cultures, 5V took
inspiration from the Japanese artist Takashi Murakami and created their own artworks. Thanks for
sharing your interesting facts and stunning artworks.
Nine students were presented with their Gold awards and were recognised for their high standards of
behaviour and for following the ROAR expectations.
Area Swimming Carnival
On Thursday 28 March, 18 of our students competed at the Area Swimming Carnival at Sydney Olympic
Park. The students swam their hardest with many breaking personal bests and making finals.
Congratulations goes to Jessica H for coming 2nd in the 9yrs 50m Freestyle and Consuela Z for coming
1st in the 12yrs 50m Breaststroke. Both are now off to the State Swimming Championships. All 4 relay
teams made it to the finals with our Junior Girls coming 1st, Junior Boys coming 4th, Senior Girls coming
4th and Senior Boys coming 2nd. Well done to all students and good luck to our students for the State
championships.
School Photos Make-Up Session
This Thursday 4 April, our school photographers will return to take portraits and sibling photos of anyone
who was absent on last week’s Photo Day. Notes have gone home for students who require photos.
They will need to be in the Community Room by 8:45am in full summer school uniform. The Year 6
photo and Leadership photos have been postponed to Week 3 in Term 2, Wednesday 15 May.
Winter PSSA
Trials for Winter PSSA sports (Soccer, Netball and AFL) will continue to take place this Friday. Students
who do not try out for Winter PSSA sports or who do not get selected into a team will have the
opportunity to join Recreational Sport. These sports include; Tennis, Basketball, Zumba, Table Tennis
and Rock Climbing (for Year 5 and 6 students only). Notes for Recreational Sports will be sent home
next Monday and will need to be returned as quickly as possible to secure places in the various sports.
Kindergarten Teddy Bears Picnic
In recognition and celebration of Kindergarten students’ highly successful transition to
school, we invite their family, friends and teddy bears to join us for morning activities and
picnic ‘lunch’ at 11am on Friday 12 April. We look forward to welcoming you and the
teddies to school.
Watch our students ROAR!
During PD lessons, students have been learning about the value of
Gratitude and how being grateful makes us realise how lucky we are and
puts our problems into perspective. Students from 2T keep a weekly
Gratitude Journal to help them remember all the things they have got to
be grateful for.
Jonah C from 2T always enjoys writing in his gratitude journal.
“Gratitude makes me feel good. I feel grateful that people love me and care about
me. When I look at my Gratitude Journal, it puts a smile on my face!” Jonah C

Work on Display
Anaphylaxis at Lindfield Public School At Lindfield Public School in 2019, we have a small number of children with a potentially life threatening
allergic reaction. They are found across our school from Kindergarten to Year 6.
How can parents help these children?
Choose alternative sandwich spreads to peanut butter and Nutella. Inform your child that
these foods can trigger an anaphylactic reaction.
Reinforce the school’s NO FOOD SHARING message.
Please note, no students are allowed to bring
glass bottles to school for safety reasons

Therefore, if you notice books on your child’s list that you did not enter, or your child has now
completed the Challenge, please do not be concerned! A big thank you to those K-2 teachers who
have been assisting with reading PRC books to help our students succeed!
All books need to be logged online via the NSW PRC website using your child’s individual

YOUR P&C NEEDS YOU!
Our Annual General Meeting was held on 21 March. Many thanks to the parents who attended and
volunteered for the Executive and Convenor roles.
We are yet to receive nominations for:
President, Co- Vice President, Secretary and Co-Secretary on the P&C Executive
To ensure that we have a balanced committee it is important that these Office-Bearer roles are
filled.
We need four parents who can contribute to the smooth running of the P&C and to assist in
creating policies and decisions which reflect the attitudes and values of the school community.
I encourage all parents to think about getting involved by committing to a role. It is a very worthwhile and
rewarding thing to do, a great way to learn more about the School and a wonderful opportunity to be part
of the school community. Below is a summary what is involved in the roles.
President
The President is responsible for the successful functioning of the P&C meetings and ensuring all
members are made to feel welcome, as well as ensuring the consistent adherence to the Constitution.
The President is well supported by the Executive & P&C Administrator and works with the School in
ensuring that the P&C is involved in the decision making process.
Co-Vice President
The co-Vice Presidents share the Vice President role, and assist their fellow Executive with the
successful functioning of the P&C. The Vice Presidents are expected to attend most P&C Meetings
throughout the year and to assist with important decision-making processes regarding the P&C’s
activities and expenditure. The Vice Presidents also play a supportive role to other volunteers and
members of P&C sub-committees.
Secretary/Assistant Secretary
The primary responsibilities of the Secretary/Assistant Secretary are to carry out the administrative tasks
relating to decisions that are made at P&C meetings. They work together to ensure that Minutes of
meetings are taken and distributed, distribute and respond to mail and work alongside their fellow
Executive to make important decisions regarding P&C’s planning, meetings and expenditure. If you are
interested in nominating yourself for any of these positions, please email me at
Enjoy your week

Winter Uniform
Term 2 is fast approaching and with that we need to start thinking about
Winter Uniforms. Now is a good time to hunt down last year’s uniforms and
see if they still fit.
For the first two weeks of Term 2 the children can wear either summer or
winter uniform (but not a mix). Thereafter winter uniform is mandatory (20
May 2019).
Art Smock
Art smocks have been extremely popular. They are available in red, blue,
green and Australian gold. One size will fit from Kindergarten all the way to
Year 6.

The last rehearsal for this term will be Monday 8 April (Week 11).
Term 2 rehearsals will start on Monday 6 May for ALL ensembles.
For Mozart families, we hope your little musicians have enjoyed getting acquainted with their instruments
this term. Mozart ensemble rehearsals start in Term 2 and will be held in the Music Room, beginning at
3:15pm. To ensure we make the most of these sessions, please ensure your children have their instruments
out and ready to play. If parents and carers can help set up chairs and music stands, that would also be
wonderful.
For your calenders:
Monday 29 April – Staff Development Day so no rehearsals.
