Split Family Reports
We are currently in the process of preparing the Student Progress Reports for Semester 1 and would like to
update our records for split families. If you would like to receive two reports please email Ms Lee Stewart on
[email protected] with details of parent’s name and postal address of both parents. If we do not
hear otherwise, all students will be given one report for the family.
5/6 S Assembly Item
I was unable to attend the Years 3-6
assembly yesterday but was treated to
an encore performance of the song
written by Hanna and Maya from 5/6S
(with help from classmates). The ‘Colour
Wheel’ song integrated themes of
resilience, growth mindset, emotions
and positivity with the colours of the
rainbow. I particularly liked this verse:
Blue is the colour of the sky
when you think you’re gonna lie
Have a growth mindset and don’t cry
Uploading Photos and Videos to Social Networking sites
Please do not upload photos and videos to social networking sites such as Facebook and Instagram if they
contain other people’s children. This is due to privacy considerations as we must seek permission from
parents/carers in order to publish photos and videos. I ask that you also remind your children of this as we
have students taking photos of other students without their permission and uploading them. Some have
become quite distressed about this lack of consideration. Please check the guidelines for social networking
sites as most have an age limit of 13+ to be able to join. Thank you for your cooperation.

Deputy Principals’ Report
Community Survey
Over the past few years, the school and P&C have worked together on projects to benefit the school.
Some of these have included a Hall and COLA extension, artificial turf on Ginkgo, Flexible Furniture,
Smartboards and an upgrade of the Pool Toilets. The P&C commits to partially funding a Learning
Support Teacher to assist with Literacy learning in the school.
With the Grosvenor Road Pedestrian Project in the works, we are
now looking to identify some possible projects for the future. Ideas
are being sought from the parent community, the staff and the
students. Please complete the survey by clicking the link below.

5/6S Assembly Item
Students in 5/6S shared their artwork based on the colour wheel at yesterday’s assembly. They even
sang an original ‘rap’ written by students in the class which was very creative.
Athletics Carnival
We were lucky enough to have beautiful weather on Monday for our Athletics Carnival. Records were
broken and we were most impressed with the participation of all students. We saw lots of students
congratulating each other at the finish line! Thank you to Mr Elsley, Mr Brock and all the teachers for
their organisation of the day. Results will be published shortly.
ICAS Competitions – English and Mathematics
Students in Years 3-6 have received a note about the ICAS competitions. This year we will again be
administering the tests in English and Mathematics before school hours to maximise learning in class time.
Please return notes and payment by Monday 18 June and make sure that you have filled out a separate
note for each child, if you have more than one child participating. Notes are also available on the school
website.
Year 6 Photo
On 14 June the official Year 6 photo will be taken after recess. Please ensure all Year 6 students come
to school in their full winter school uniform, not sports uniform.

TOP TIP:We often learn more about what kids ate on the way to the zoo than what happened when the lion escaped. So simply tell children to cut out the boring bits: no beds, no bus trips, no boring lists of friends or food.(See also Step 1: Sizzling Starts)
ACTION ACTIVITY:Watch movies and see how few ‘boring bits’ they use. They rarely show people using the toilet, brushing their teeth or blow-drying their hair. Even stranger, notice how people never seem to travel, they just arrive.
Step 6: Ban the Boring
Why do children always fill their stories with boring details? How many of these have you read?
• Food fetishes: We were at Disneyworld and we got to eat hamburgers with chips and a big thick milkshake. I had two whole bottles of Coke and my sister had…
• Bedroom boredom: I woke up that morning and leapt out of bed and put on my best jeans and a jumper and then cleaned my teeth and put on my shoes…
• Trapped in travel: In the bus on the way to the swimming carnival we waved at the cars and Mark made us sing really boring songs and then we put our streamers through the windows and…
It’s called ‘warm-up’ writing because people start with the safe and familiar. Professional authors know this – some authors even cut out the first few chapters when editing, so their book jumps straight into the action.

Work on Display
Anaphylaxis at Lindfield Public School At Lindfield Public School in 2018, we have a small number of children with a potentially life threatening
allergic reaction. They are found across our school from Kindergarten to Year 6.
How can parents help these children?
If possible, choose alternative sandwich spreads to peanut butter and Nutella. If
you have no alternative, inform your child that these foods can trigger an
anaphylactic reaction.
Reinforce the school’s NO FOOD SHARING message.
Please note, no students are allowed to bring glass bottles to
school for safety reasons.

News
Sports Jackets There has been some confusion recently about the use of our sports jackets: Our sports jackets can ONLY be worn when our students wear their sports uniform. The children may NOT wear the sports jacket over their school uniform. On the other hand our school jackets and jumpers may be worn with BOTH school and sports uniforms.
Raincoats
Don’t forget we do stock raincoats that will keep your little ones dry in the rain. They have been very popular – lovely and lightweight with the additional bonus of actually keeping our children dry! We now stock them in sizes 4 – 12 and we can order them in size 2 as well as various adult sizes.
LABEL your belongings I know I harp on, but please label your belongings – We need to be able to read your child’s last name to return things to you! Also encourage your precious one to look after them. The lost property box is overflowing.

Music Camp 17-19 June, 2018
With less than two weeks to go, the camp planning is basically completed. All names are in, the last few forms are being collected and rooming has concluded. Thank you to all who have helped make this happen. Just a quick reminder about the start and end times for the various ensembles.
Concert Band needs to make their own way to the Narrabeen venue and arrive at 4pm on Sunday 17 June.
Members of the Intermediate Band and Junior Band need to arrive at the LPS Pool Playground at 6:20am on Monday 18 June where a small breakfast will be served and names will be marked off.
The camp will conclude with a concert commencing at 3:15pm on Tuesday 19 June and children will be free to make their own way home (NB no return transport to LPS) around 4:45pm.
It looks like winter is now upon us so start thinking about your packing NOW. Warm clothes, wet weather clothes, sleeping bags etc as mentioned in the previous letters sent home.
Over the next two weeks you will receive coloured ribbons to attach to your instruments and stands to make it easier to coordinate at camp. Final timetabling for the Monday breakfast and bus loading at LPS will come out as well as scheduling of the brilliant volunteers who have already signed up.
For details, go to the Music Camp Page - http://lpspandc.org.au/25-2/music-camp/
CB - Vivid Performance - CANCELLED
The CB performance at Vivid in Chatswood on Friday 15 June has been cancelled. Unfortunately there were some last minute changes with the venue that would no longer accommodate our band. Despite efforts to arrange another location around the same time, a suitable alternative could not be found.
We will continue to look for exciting opportunities to showcase our top performers' talents. For questions or feedback regarding any aspect of the Band program at Lindfield, please e-mail [email protected] Seiko and Mark Ruff Band Co-convenors [email protected]

MONDAY 11 June – Public Holiday - there will be NO ensemble rehearsal
The Music Camp countdown- tips on what to prepare
All children will need to bring a music stand. If you do not have one yet, please
purchase one – a stand is also very handy for instrument practices at home.
The cheapest option is to order online. Alternatively, you can get one at music
shops. Collapsible stands are easiest to transport.
What to wear: the children need to wear warm casual clothes – no school
uniform. Please note the Narrabeen site gets cold. Also please pack a rain jacket as the children
will be walking between rehearsal rooms and to their activities. Comfortable, closed shoes are a
must.
Overnight bags: for those children staying overnight please pack a small bag – no suitcases.
Children will need to manage their own luggage at camp so practise packing and unpacking the
bags and sleeping bags with them. More details for what to pack are on the P&C website:
http://lpspandc.org.au/25-2/music-camp/
2018 LPS Orchestra If your child would like to participate in the 2018 LPS Orchestra please email us with your child’s name, instrument and current ensemble as soon as possible.

Chess
You know, when I was a girl, the idea that the British Empire could ever end was absolutely inconceivable. And it just disappeared, like all the other empires. -Doris Lessing Round 4 of the JCL Weekly Competition was held last Friday on a cold winter afternoon. This week the Library was transformed into a tournament of dreams, as we had a massive 5 teams at Home, 3 Away and 1 Bye. This week was the big one between the two strongest teams in the competition - Lindfield A v St Ives North A. And it didn't disappoint as epic matches were held and when the dust settled the new Empire of St Ives North arose. Can we come back? While waiting for the final game to be completed (an epic between Matthew and his opponent ending in a Draw) many casual matches were played between the top students and our coach, using time odds (3 minutes to 1) on a clock - the students won a few matches there. It was great to see chess played at this level (and your correspondent was duly easily dispatched as well.) Meanwhile, our D's continue their golden run, and amongst our traveling teams the E's may have played chess, but also took a few really cool photos while at Barker! Charles in the F's visiting Wahroonga PS finished with a position requiring an adjudication, something we have never seen occur! He had a Queen to his opponent’s Rook, Bishop and Pawn, and both sides were interlocked - and the supervisor couldn't tell who would win and sent it up for adjudication. The organisers bestowed their wisdom with a judgement worthy of an Empire - a Draw! Well done Charles! Lindfield A played St Ives North A for a 0.5-3.5 loss (aggregate 10-6.) Lindfield B had a Bye (8.5-7.5.) Lindfield C played Knox A for a 1.5-2.5 loss (4.5-11.5.) Lindfield D played St Bernards Berowra Heights A for a 4-0 win (14-2.)
Lindfield E played Barker C for a 1-3 loss (8-8.) Lindfield F played Wahroonga D for a 2-2 draw (7-9.) Lindfield G played Newington B for a 1-3 loss (6.5-9.5.) Lindfield H played Wahroonga C for a 2.5-1.5 win (10.5-5.5.) Lindfield I played Sydney Grammar F for a 1-3 loss (4.5-11.5.) This week at Home we have Lindfield B v Lindfield East A, Lindfield E v St Ives North H, Lindfield F v Barker B and Lindfield H v St Bernards Berowra Heights B (may be postponed.) Travelling we have Lindfield A v St Ives North C, Lindfield C v St Ives North A, Lindfield D v St Ives North G, Lindfield G v St Bernards Berowra Heights A and Lindfield I v St Ives North K. Good luck teams! Eric Tse Chess Co-ordinator [email protected] 8642
