welcomeWe welcome you to Lindeth Howe, a property once owned by Beatrix Potter. It’s the perfect place to relax and unwind or explore the numerous attractions the Lake District has to offer.

Our hotel boasts beautiful bedrooms, cosy lounges, log fires, a well stocked bar, a 2 AA Rosette awarded restaurant with a delicious seasonal menu to suit all tastes, and an ‘in-house’ leisure facility with a holistic treatment area just for that extra bit of luxury.

However, what is most important to the team here at Lindeth Howe is that your stay is an enjoyable and memorable one. We hope you like the brochure and look forward to welcoming you soon.

Kind regards,

STEPHEN BROUGHTONManaging Director Lindeth Howe in 1911.

the settingLindeth Howe enjoys a peaceful location, just a mile south of the lakeshore village of Bowness-on-Windermere.

With stunning views over Lake Windermere and to the fells beyond, our guests are able to relax on a delightful sun terrace in 6 acres of Lakeland gardens. At the front of the hotel admire our zebra finches in their aviary, a feature that existed when Beatrix Potter’s mother lived in the house.

Such a magnificent setting with such breathtaking views means Lindeth Howe is the perfect place for any occasion.

the loungesOur cosy lounges, the Sitting room and Bar Lounge, overlook the gardens offering you a perfect place to sit and enjoy the afternoon with tea and scones.

Or, as the evening descends, retire to enjoy your favourite tipple in front of our roaring fire, whether it is a glass of local beer or a flute of fine champagne. The Beatrix Potter library provides the opportunity to browse through many books, guides and leaflets on the area as well as information about Beatrix Potter herself.

the dining roomWith a local reputation for good food in our 2 AA Rosette awarded dining room, guests may enjoy an atmosphere of intimate and relaxed dining, particularly when our pianist is in residence. Fine wines complement our seasonal table d’hôte menu comprising modern English dishes using locally sourced produce. In addition, we have an exciting à la carte menu plus, for the foodies, a trilogy tasting menu designed by our executive head chef - a treat not to be missed.

We cater for all tastes and are pleased to help with dietary requirements and special menus. Sunday lunch is a real tradition featuring a classic Sunday roast and mouth watering desserts. Light lunches and snacks are always available from a daily changing menu.

the bedroomsFrom romantic lake view doubles to flexible family suites, we have en-suite bedrooms to suit everyone for any occasion.

Our Woodland Superior and Garden Superior rooms are spacious, with all the facilities for the perfect stay with two rooms located on the ground floor for easy access. Add a little indulgence to your stay with a Deluxe Lake or Garden View room, all Deluxe rooms have that little extra including additional toiletries, chilled water, an ice bucket, a DVD player and a safe for valuables.

The Westmorland Suite is lavish and luxurious, situated in a secluded spot on the second floor. It has a separate lounge area with log effect fire, plasma screen TV, and elegant interior design features. The Potter Room has superb views and is utterly sumptuous. Rumour has it, this room is where Beatrix Potter favoured to stay on her visits to Lindeth Howe. We want your stay at Lindeth Howe to be truly special, why not spoil the one you love and add our Special Occasions Package to your stay which includes champagne, chocolates and flowers.

Beatrix Potterconnections

The Potters rented Lindeth Howe as a holiday property on a number of occasions. Whilst staying here in 1911 & 1913 Beatrix Potter finished her illustrations of Timmy Tiptoes and Pigling Bland. Following the death of her father, Rupert Potter, Beatrix acquired Lindeth Howe in 1915 for her mother who loved the house. Beatrix herself lived across the Lake on a farm in Near Sawrey. Rupert Potter was an amateur photographer and we are lucky enough to be able to display a number of his photographs of the house and gardens taken during their stays at the hotel.
