Desiderio Alberto Arnaz and Lucille Ball gave birth to their first child on June 18, 1947. The female child was given to Ruth Smith Griffith Evans and her husband Robert Henry Evans to raise according to Lucille Ball's "rules." Lucille insisted that the couple travel as they would ordinarily on vacations and to visit their relatives; but Lucille had to know where the child was at all times. This birth certificate is one of three that Lucille was able to secure to 'take the scent off' for several reporters who were very wisely 'on to her.' Lucille Ball made 'arrangements of understanding' with every one of them. Anyone unable to keep what she termed as "my private life" to themselves and keep their mouths shut soon found themselves iced out of the Hollywood circle.Decades were spent reinforcing the lie and there was a lot less technology back then. That technology is here today and the intrigue surrounding Desi & Lucy's first child, is no longer intriguing or a mystery.Historians of course are very disappointed that what they wrote about and published for so many decades has lost its accuracy. Just as the Keplar mission identifies new planets that were there all along (but we didn't know it) so too are movie stars' unclaimed children being discovered and identified all the time. From the time of the talkies all the way to the sixties, powerful artists were able to obscure their marriages, live births, miscarriages, divorces, adultery, crimes and homosexuality. Hollywood was able to keep secrets quiet because the artists had plenty to lose. Some were enslaved by unforgiving contracts and others went quiet for decades on the orders of the big Hollywood Production moguls.
