Brief To design, create and sell products through effective communication and design of packaging and display stalls.

These stalls are to be part of a night market to be held at Westside in Canberra.

Our goal is to manage a successful stall in selling quality products and effectively communicate our brand.

Target Market The target market of our stall is for those that would go to a night market on a Friday night. This category may include people between the ages of 18 to 25, as these markets tend to draw a younger crowd. This age bracket is based off observations made at a previous night market held in Canberra.

Types of people that could be potential customers can be uni students, individuals looking for new and unique things to buy, people just finishing work and general people that are out and about.

We will also be targeting at people looking for home goods, items that can be used in peoples homes. This could appeal to a lot of people especially younger people learning to live by themselves.

Group objectives The objective of our group is to create a unique market stall that allows for a flexible selling style.

We also wish to maintain a contemporary style within our products and stall as well as keeping in theme of the night market style so that we can appeal to as many people as possible. This can be done through our branding and design.

Approach

Our approach to this market stall assignment is to use the stall and branding as a head company that will stock our own individual brands.

This will mean that our individual products will be branded individually with our own logos and individual packaging.

Once the products are purchased products will be placed into another form of packaging, such as paper bags, branded with the overall stall logo and branding.

Stocking individual brands within a store is an approach that is used commonly used in retail stores.

Branding Our stall name will be called “LAZY”. This is derived from our initials and adding the letter ‘Y’ at the end to form the word lazy. This logo is made using design elements that are commonly used in vintage styling and contemporary design.

The logo has an element from each of the individual logos, the roundness being from Zach, the house being from Amanda and the colours from Lincoln.

The small picture of a house within the logo suggests that we are selling home goods and the stars promote quality. This is good in promoting our products as it describes what we are aiming to achieve in running our stall.

Lincoln’s Product Lincoln’s Product will be material type bags, such as tote bags and drawstring bags.

His bags will be pre bought and then be made original by screen printing images onto the front of it. Images will be designs of his own and will help reflect the stores image.

Some bags may be screen printed with our logo on it, this will act as promotional signage for our stall. They can also be used as a purchasable shopping bag to carry our products around in once bought.

Packaging for Lincoln’s bags is not required as they will potentially become the packaging for other products. However they will be hung onto our stall so that they are on display and easily looked at by customers

Amanda’s Products Amanda’s products are coasters which will be sold in sets of 4 as well as having two designs sold as single items. The packs will be in the themes of wine, beer and tea.

The coasters will be made from wood with the letters and numbers (numbers not pictured on the concept) stamped on with some images stamped also. The coasters will have a lacquer to waterproof them and ensure the stamps don’t rub off.

Each coaster will be a square of wood with the indents cut in about two thirds of the way in, giving the illusion of the pieces being stuck together when really they were never apart. This will help with the durability and structure of the products.

Amanda’s Packaging The packaging for the coasters will be in cardboard form to match the stand and to limit costs. They will be hand made and kept simple with a cardboard tag attached with sting in the colours of my logo, with a sticker of the logo on one side and the name of the product on the reverse.

The final product will look similar to the image shown, however there is potential to use cardboard with a pattern on it to dress up the box a little more, having different designs for the variations of the product.

With the use of cost effective materials with the products and packaging, rough pricing will be around $15 for a pack of 4 and $5 for a single piece.

Zach’s Product For Zach’s product he will be making timber serving knives, made for the cutting and spreading of soft cheese, spreads and soft fruits. They will be more of a decorative item rather than an everyday tool.

He plan’s to use dense hardwoods such as spotted gum and iron bark. They will be laser cut out for precision and exact replication and then hand sharpened. Then the timber will be tamper over a flame and then finished with a food safe oil to increase durability.

Zach will have 2 designs available for purchase, a larger one and a smaller one.

Zach’s Packaging To package Zach’s knife, he felt that it only needed something simple but still unique.

Zach has chosen to make a sleave type packaging as it will protect the knife and the blade from chipping out and going blunt.

Materials could include leather or some other durable material. A material like leather would be ideal as it would make the product look classy and of good quality.

The design of the sleave will be enough to cover the blade but keep the handle exposed, showing of its timber features. The sleave will wrap around the handle to lock the knife into its packaging.

Stall Packaging As an overall stall packaging we would like to use paper bags, keeping in theme with the cardboard stall, and brand them with our logo. This will display where the products have come from and will act as a promotional technique towards other shoppers.

Bags will be bought in bulk and individually branded with either custom stickers, stamps or stencils.

Paper bags will be free and will allow for the easy transportation of good bought at our stall. Alternatively people can purchase Lincoln’s material type bags for carrying around their newly bought items.

Stall Concept As required we are to construct our stall out of 6.5 mm cardboard. This is relatively thick and will be quite structural if built right.

Our design is based around the idea of being able to walk freely around our stall while selling our products, this is a very flexible approach to selling our goods.

The stall consists of a central triangular structure that acts as a stand to hold 3 boxes that will be cut into the triangular structure. The boxes will act as shelfs to display our products. The design will also incorporate a hanging area for Lincoln’s bags.

This design can be easily supported by ribbing inside and also weights to keep it in place.

Overall

Overall we are going for a flexible style market stall that will allow for the interaction with potential customers.

Because of our individual products being very different, we feel that we have been able to accommodate for our individual needs to create a collaborative stall.

Our stall will be selling home goods, items that can be used as everyday items or just for special occasions.
