“Establishing a good reputation comes first and reputation neither comes with
money, nor is it lost with it.
Limak crew must live up to their words. They are obliged to keep their promises,
to everyone.
They never compromise quality in their relations or in their work. The only thing
they do not renounce their claim for either in their productions or in the systems
they build is quality. There is not a single issue that they would be unsuccessful
unless they give up the notion of quality and discipline.
If you want to be triumphant, you must stick to two determinants: first one is
discipline and the second one is quality.”
First comes a good reputation…

“I am dreaming of a Limak for the future; improved its institutionalization,
continuously growing and prosperous.
I believe we have a good position in Turkey; we are amongst the best companies.
Besides, I believe we have to take active part in the world market. I hope we
will manage that, as well; we will do more jobs abroad. Eventually, the risks
of the countries abroad sometimes proliferate, and we are totally aware of
that, too. We receive many offers for build-operate-transfer model projects.
Consequently, we will keep on growing abroad without putting our gains at
risk. “
We are going to be a globalplayer…

FEATURE
The world has been in a deep crisis since 2008. Naturally,
Turkey was expected to be effected. In contrast with
the views that Turkey would be heavily damaged by
this incident, Turkey made her way out of it more
successfully compared to other countries. There were
two significant results of the crisis. The first one was 4,5
percent shrinking in the economy and the second one
was the unemployment rates reaching up to 14 percent
which previously was around 11. As Limak group, let
alone cutting back on the work force, we recruited
more personnel. We are very much pleased. We didn’t
add up to the unemployment problem of Turkey,
whereas we worked for Turkey the other way round.
How did we manage this? We have to take a close look
at the sectors we are active in.
First of all, in the construction sector, we won the tender
of the Ankara-Sivas high-speed rail line construction.
We also got the construction of the power plants of
some private sector companies. As a result, beside our
already continuing projects, we began recruiting new
staff.
As for the cement sector, Turkey is a very important
player in housing sector in which cement is widely used.
Despite for the 14 percent narrowing in housing sector,
we went through a very lively year as our factories and
the state infrastructure investments are mostly located
in East and North-East Anatolia. We were not very much
affected by the shrinkage in that sector. What’s more,
Limak cement factories are exporting significant amounts
to Syria and Iraq. Our factories produced nearly 700
thousand tones more cement and sold it. Our cement
production facility construction in Derik which started
in April 2009 was completed and began production in
December. In this factory the greater part of our
production is exported to Iraq. Both our production
figures and number of our employees went up.
Talking about the tourism sector, we have four 5000-
bed tourism facilities. Our occupancy rate was around
90 percent at the end of the year 2009. We didn’t lay
off any employees.
We continued with the same number of personnel in
our food sector firm, Limkon. We raised both of our
domestic and overseas sales. Our subcontractors and
our fruit suppliers receive their shares from our sales.
Our fruit juice concentration facility improved its capacity
both in production and processing. This factory was
only crawling in 2008 but it stood on and proceeded
in 2009.
A significant amount of Limak investments are in hydro-
electric power plants. We had two on-going investments
in this sector. One of them is Uzunçayr hydro-electric
power facility located on Munzur stream in Tunceli. We
went ahead fast on that project that we could start
producing energy in December 2009. Besides, in
Alkumru dam located on Botan stream in Siirt, we had
2000 people working. We invested an amount of 467
million dollars for that project.
Along with these, we have a 40 percent stake in Sabiha
Gökçen Airport. We finished the new terminal in 2009
with an investment of 500 million Euros. We had 2200
personnel recruited there. All in all, the year 2009 forced
us to work hard.
THE NUMBER OF OUR EMPLOYEES INCREASED
Our Target for the Year 2010:2,5 Billion Dollars
10
We surpassed all of our main targets set at the beginning
of 2009. In aviation, food, tourism and cement groups
we went beyond the goals before the end of 2009.
We sold all of our cement production in 2009. However
we short of clinkers. Consequently, we decided to
enlarge the clinker capacity of our factories in Urfa by
120 percent for the next October or November.
As for the tourism sector, we are going to add up to
our already existing facilities. After launching Sabiha
Gökçen Airport, we opened our 120-bed airport hotel.
Parallel with the enlargement in the airport this facility
is also bound to grow. For the time being, we have a
hotel being constructed in İstanbul Kavack. It will be
a 400-bed 5-star hotel. We estimate to open it in August.
Furthermore, this year we will be starting to operate a
thermal hotel in Yalova in August. This 50–roomed
100–bed facility will be a real boutique health center.
The facility in Yalova will cost around 20 million Dollars,
and the one in Kavack will be around 50 million Dollars.
Besides these we have a hotel investment in Northern
Cyprus, which will be a resemblance of the Hanging
Gardens of Babylon. It will be 1000-bedded. The total
cost of the Cyprus facility will take up to 100 million
Dollars and we have already invested 20 million Dollars
in that project.
Along with the tourism, we are continuously investing
in energy. We need to diversify our sources in energy.
We need to produce coal, wind and solar based energy.
We are still doing researches on that topic. Making new
investments on these new sectors is one of our mainly
goals for 2010. If we can find the feasible areas and
the appropriate material, we plan to make 300-350
million Dollar investment in energy.
At the beginning of 2010 we won the tender for Uludağ
Electricity Distribution line. This power plant consumes
12 billion kWh per year. Therefore our production from
hydro-electric plants will not be sufficient to supply this
facility. By diversifying the energy sources, we have to
make new investments in coal, wind and solar systems.
We even think of going into geo-thermal energy. We
are hopeful about completing our investment in these
sectors and produce an equivalent amount of energy
to the facility in Uludağ.
We will grow our capacity in existing sectors. Therefore
at the moment we are not directing our investments
into a totally new sector. Nevertheless, we are in search
of new opportunities both for domestic and international
lines in aviation sector. We are planning to get into bids
for the Cairo, Pristine and Medina airports. Our
consolidated budget in 2009 was around 1.2 billion
Dollars.
OUR TARGET FOR THE YEAR 2010:
2,5 BILLION DOLLARS.

“Our main targets for 2009 were to complete ‹SG airport and make it operational as well
as sustaining the minimum damage from the crisis. Eventually, many of our projects kept
going with their fundings obtained. We had signed the contract for the Alkumru Dam in
2008; in 2009 we proceeded with that project. Therefore 2009 was a year to accelerate
our existing projects. In fact 2010, started as a very fast year. Uluda€ Electricity Distribution
tender was very significant for us to diversify and relocate our energy investments. In
addition, we have made a progress in infrastructure investments which have a crucial role
in our operations to take part in national and regional growth. One these steps was the
bid for Pristine Airport. We managed to be eligible for most of the airport tenders in the
region. Therefore we suppose the year 2010 will be a bit busy for us. We applied for the
preliminary qualifications in Egypt, Syria and Saudi Arabia airport tenders. Meanwhile we
are on track of the Croatian wind power issue.”

“2009 was a fruitful year in construction. We were considerably productive with our
projects. We signed a contract with Saudi Arabia the cost of which is 470 million
dollars. Besides, we won a tender in Pakistan and signed the contract. Its total cost
is around 100 million dollars. Briefly, I can say that 2009 was not bad for us. We are
planning to get at least two more projects abroad in 2010.
In the short term, we are specifically looking for construction projects in Libya in
2010. In mid and long-term we are looking for opportunities in the Balkans and
Russia. We won the Pristine airport tender in Kosovo. That will be an investment
project. The funding and management will be conducted by Limak Investment; on
the other hand the construction will be carried out by Limak Construction.”

“We have signed hundreds of projects with my colleagues in Limak. It’s a team work.
Limak’s vision and mission is distinctive. Our crew operates in a consensus. There
is no impossible goal for us as long as we detect it as a target. Then, we perfectly
analyze the programming, planning and outlining of the job. Limak has a significant
dynamism. In such a dynamic structure, we employ an exclusive team who are all
success and quality-oriented. That’s why we have such a bright company equipped
with a correct team and correct means. I hope all the crew here are as proud as I
am to be a part of this company.”

“We suppose that there is no impossible target for us to accomplish. We have had
experience in a wide range of areas. We have been through various problems;
various troubles but we made it at the end. On top of all, we have a wonderful
team. We totally confide in them. We have at least 25 engineers working for the
company more than 25 years.
We are assertive about speed. We are constructing Alkumru Dam. It is our precious
as it is our first dam project. I think we will see a world record there. It seems
to me that such a big energy projects in only three years is never-seen-before
example.”

‹stanbul Sabiha GökçenInternational AirportThe project is being constructed by Limak-GMR Joint Venture and the construction works
started on May 1, 2008. Although the official construction period is 30 months, the JV is
aiming to complete the construction in 18 months which will be a record for this size of a
project and technical and system requirements. The joint venture has completed the facilities
with at least the same quality as the best examples in the world with a well-organized, fast
and strong team. The facility was commissioned and started to serve on 31 October 2009
with the purpose and motto of "New Gate of Turkey to the World".
Tekeli-Sisa Architecture Partnership, who has accomplished many prestigious projects and
had many awards, is acting as the Project Author. Being awarded the "Sinan Award" of
Chamber of Architects in 1994, Tekeli-Sisa is one of the most reputable architecture companies
of Turkey.
The New International Terminal having 210.000 m2 closed area with high level international
standards and an annual capacity of 25 million passengers, has a 5.300 m2 of Europe’s
biggest duty free area, a 3000m2 CIP area, a food and beverage area of 7500m2, 96 check-
in desks, 30 self check-in, 6 luggage conveyors with an hourly capacity of 7500 luggages.
The project was converted into a steel construction from ferroconcrete for the purpose of
making rapid progress without making concessions from quality and security and reducing
earthquake loads. A steel assembly of approximately 50.000 tones had been made. The
building is transfixed on ferroconcrete of 60 km in total which was made for reinforcing the
current ground.
Feyiz Genç
“Sabiha Gökçen is a world record. Instead of 36 months, we were through the
project in 18 months. We put our signature in a project which has a good
reputation and it is awarded with prizes. On behalf of my company and myself
I can certainly say that it is a project we are proud of.”
22 Limak Construction Group
On this building with the largest earthquake ground isolation of the world, 292
pieces of seismic isolations (with a system and technology accepted as highest rank
of earthquake durability and which have not been implemented on such size of a
similar building in Turkey before), have been placed on the basement floor columns
which will keep up the load bearing system of the building by absorbing a considerable
part of the seismic load to be formed during an earthquake.
Bahattin Özdemir
“Sabiha Gökçen was a gigantic project. Limak has taken part in many important
projects in Turkey. However ‹SG Airport had a very special place in our hearts
and minds. We felt similar feelings in other projects but Sabiha Gökçen had
something of its own from the beginning to the end. Finally we managed to get
through it proudly. We kept our promise to our prime minister, as well. That
project is one of our biggest glories.”
23Limak Group of Companies Annual Report 2009
A terminal port with 8 passenger bridges with 16 aircraft approaching capacity simultaneously
with multi-bridge MARS system, which is a first in Turkey, has been facilitated. By means of
the additional 112.000 m2 apron, it is a first in Turkey with the dual taxiway.
A 140.000 m2 of 4 storey car park (3 closed, 1 open) will have a capacity of approximately
5000 vehicles.
In addition to this, the Project will have all the characteristics of an international terminal with
its 128 room Airport Hotel, 2 storey VIP facilities, a fuel hydrant system, security building for
cargo terminal, underpass, roads and viaducts.
24 Limak Construction Group
A temporary terminal has been constructed alongside the current domestic lines terminal for
the purpose of meeting the increasing passenger demand and providing sufficient comfort.
Thus passenger load in the domestic lines has been separated as departing and arriving and
operation of domestic lines has become more functional. New arrangements in the existing
terminals and sitting area additions in CIP-VIP buildings have been made in order to be used
for the purpose of giving a more comfortable service until the new facilities are commissioned.
For the designing and construction of all facilities, the most eligible teams and consultants
have worked together; best brands and technologies have been used for this project which
will be remarked as the landmark investment of Turkey, Under secretariat of Defense Industries
(SSM), HEAS and our partnership.

Obruk Dam and HEPP which is located on the Kzlrmak River, 16 kilometers north of
Dodurga, Çorum; is an energy and irrigation project. The 8670 meter-long state highway
is also a component of the project which provides connection to Uğurludağ district
(located in the lake area). The clay core semi-permeable inlay body of the dam has a
height of 67 meters from the river bad and 125 meters from the foundation. The dam
volume is 12 hm3 and maximum lake area is 50.21 km2. The project consists of the
construction of 33 km service road and a 20 km urban road instead of the part submerged
under the dam lake. Instead of the bridge which remained under the dam lake level due
to the elevation difference, a new 1250 meter-long Kzlrmak Bridge was built on the
route connecting İskilip district to Çorum. The installed capacity of the HEPP is 202,8 and
annual energy production is 515 million kWh. The facility will be the 18th among the
biggest dams supplying 5/1000 of the energy demand.
The construction of the dam was completed and water holding process was initiated
in 19 October 2007. Energy production was commenced in 4 units in 2009.

“The depth of the excavation was 63 meters. We also did foundation excavation.
We were really worried about water extraction. However we worked with an
exact planning and project management. We found expert advisors. That’s
how we do business. We always do research. Once Mr. Özdemir threatened
us, “If you can’t get through the job, be ready for the gallows”. But we made
it, and before the date we promised, we were through both with excavation
and inlay. “

For each tender we experienced the same enthusiasm and whenever we won we had
the same happiness.
The tender process for Sabiha Gökçen Airport has a unique place and importance
owing to its rather long lasting and intensive preparation phase. And then the amount
of stress we had to handle at the opening of the tender… We entered the room at
10:00 a.m and we were only able to leave at 01:00 a.m in the middle of the night.
Naturally we were quite pleased knowing that we had been awarded the tender.
Needless to say, it was one of the biggest projects of Limak.”

“We have a remarkable difference from other groups. Tourism groups have to be
analyzed carefully. Some of them just deal with management. Some are interested
in construction while some others are into franchising, which means they grow by
the royalties. However, we build our own hotels; we do our job with our own team
so we have our own responsibility. Following that we launch the facility and run the
hotel ourselves. Therefore we have all the burden on our shoulders. That’s what
makes us different from the others”
We build and run our own hotels...

“2008 was a very productive year. We took our precautions in 2009. We did not have
a big challenge regarding the number of guests. I believe we will take advantage of
the productive period of 2009 in 2010. I think being determined not to compromise
our quality, sharing everything with our staff and involving them in decision making
processes, as well as our efforts to increase customer satisfaction will bear its fruit
in 2010. In this respect I can say that today there are many websites that publish
critics about hotels and there are many nice comments about hour hotel. For instance,
there is a holiday page in Germany. 81% of holiday makers check this web site before
they plan their holiday. You can read all the comments on a specific hotel on this web
site and make your reservation accordingly. I think this is a very important factor,
they seem to offer an amateur approach and in the end they get rather professional
outcome.”

“We founded Limak Academy this year. We turned the ground hall in our Limra Park
Hotel into a small school with 4 classrooms. In the frame of a protocol we signed, we
are training 100 chefs in the scope of an Employment Agency (‹SKUR) project supported
by the European Union.
We started two months ago. For two months they received a theoretical, classroom type
of training. They have 8 hours per day and 5 days a week. All our students are insured
through ‹fiKUR. Also they get a daily allowance of 15 TL. We already provide them with
catering and accommodation.
These trainees were selected from the people who applied to ‹fiKUR in Antalya. There
are some partially experienced ones among them. And 80% of the participants do not
know anything. Just think, these people are between the age of 21 – 25 they worked
as sales assistants or cashiers in supermarkets and they say “I like cooking. I want to
be a chef.”
At present they are receiving the practical training in our kitchen. After the first two
months of classroom training now they will have hands-on training for three months.
At the end of these three months they will get their Chef Certificate. Among the successful
trainees 50% will start working in Limak hotels. They will be employed actively as
insured employees. The remaining will be recommended to other hotels.
I used to have 41 staff and now I have 25 students, so at the moment we also act as
a teacher.”

“There must always be a target before you. Those without an aim, a concrete target shall fall behind in life. Some friends ask “What is a target man? You have realizedyourself already. You are in a group like Limak. You are the chef of Limra as wellas the Deputy President of Chefs Association. You are the author of a book. Whatother target are you looking for?” And I say there is always a target. You shouldmaintain that enthusiasm.
On the other hand, to say a few words about food, I should mention that our kitchenhas been awarded several times in the last ten years. We have received more than100 awards in various competitions.
The most recent ones are namely the 21 medals we won in ten different branchesin a contest among these there is a total of 7 ranks, 3 of which are the first prize.”

“The realization of figures in 2009 is below our estimations as a result of the crisis.
But thanks to our dynamic, proactive and effective vision we had a happier ending
in 2009 compared to other hotels. Besides, as we use human resources our corporate
identity in the most efficient way to ensure customer satisfaction our visitors preferred
us again and again. Despite the rising trend in Russian market, 2010 will not be a
piece of cake for us. Still as a reputable brand in the Turkish market, I predict that
we can reach the figures of the previous year.”

We set higher standards...“Last year was very hard but in Limak we moved forward and set higher standardsand we could still stand upright and so did our prices. We improved the quality ofour hotel by means of new investments. We renovated the buffets, brand new slideswere built, and the beach bar was constructed. We refurbished 50 rooms with LCDs,parquet and furniture. We keep on investing.
I believe 2010 will be a better year. I estimate a 5% rise in the number of guests andin profit. In the football market we are number one in Antalya. We have 11 footballfields belonging to the Hotel. 10 of them are outside the Hotel and 1 is within.Fenerbahçe football team mostly prefers our Hotel. Throughout the year, actuallywithin a four month period, we accommodate 190 football teams. In Antalya, we setthe prices and the other hotels set theirs accordingly. We are the trend setters.”

“For Limak “price=quality” formula is not valid anymore, it is more than that for us.We serve our guests way beyond the quality for the price they pay. In fact, our guestsreally demand at least twice as much quality as they pay. This is in our Turkishtradition already.
In general, we have an important share in congress tourism. We also offer servicesfor football tourism. Mostly we accommodated first and second league Russian teamsand also some Korean teams. During the season number of German guests becomemore dominant whereas during the winter season internal market is in the foregrounddue to congress tourism. Apart from that, England, Germany and Russia are theother countries from where we receive a majority of our guests. Even the Boca deJunior team from Argentina stayed here. I think we are the first hotel to accommodatean Argentinean team in Turkey. We can say that we serve up to 25 – 30 % to thecongress and tourism sectors. And as for the usual sun-holiday tourism 40% of ourguests are Turkish and the rest are foreigners. “

We have increased number ofour quests...“2009 started with some concerns. Just like for the whole tourism sector. But our main advantagewas that Limak is active in more than one market. We have some alternative markets; Europeanmarket, Balkan countries, Russia, Turkey. In many alternative markets we work with variousagents and we took advantage of it. Limak hotels were well-known in these markets. We didnot make any discount in our prices and we waited for the bookings to be made. Especially thewinter-season guests prepare you for the summer season because back home they recommendyou as long as they are satisfied with the service. At the bottom line we increased the numberof our guests who revisit us. In 2010, again in European market and especially in the Netherlandsand in Germany we presume that we will be quite effective. Take the Dutch for example; theymake up the 50% of our visitors in summer. We also estimate that we will be active for theTurkish market. For Israel and Russian markets we hope to get figures between 5% - 8%, whichis not as good as the former years, yet still a good result.”

“Our goal for 2010 is increasing our capacity. We want to reach diversity in the field
of energy. For the time being, we are in hydro-electricity. In addition, we hope to get
into geo-thermal, may be wind power and coal energy production. I hope we can
manage at least one of these in 2010. We also would like to have a role in energy
distribution sector. We have already won a distribution tender, so we have accomplished
one of our objectives and hopefully we will get our license for Uluda€ Electricity
Distribution. Electricity distribution is a totally different area. It is not like energy
production and construction. It is a totally different system. As I said, we realized
that we have a potential. We would like to be in different branches and we believe
we can. As a new sector, maybe we will manage to make progress in industry.
We have started 2010 very fast, we have reached our targets, we would like to get
even faster.”
Reaching diversity in energy...

Batuhan ÖzdemirLimak Group of CompaniesMember of Executive Board
We will grow in energy sector...
Limak Group entered the energy sector in 1997 with Limak Energy. The group
focused on investing in the hydroelectric power plants depending on the valuable
experience gained during the construction of hydroelectric power plants. Limak’s
target in growth is not limited to hydroelectric power plants, the group is willing
to bring variety in its energy portfolio and for this purpose it pursues all opportunities
in energy sector.
The total amount of installed capacity of the power plants managed by Limak
Group is 161 MW and the total average energy production is around 600 million
kWh.
The Alkumru, Pembelik, Tatar, Dereköy, Kirazlk, Eriç and Bayram HEPPs the
construction of which are in process at different levels, will presumably be operative
by the end of 2015. And from that date on, the installed capacity of the power
plants in Limak portfolio will reach 1200 MW and the annual production is estimated
to be 4 billion kWh.
Limak group is intent on participating in energy distribution tenders along with
privatization projects. Winning the Uludağ Electricity Distribution tender on 18
February 2010 was a great contribution to our future goals of growing both in
energy sector and as Limak improved our portfolio with the addition of that specific
district.
Besides, Limak Group has set sight on adding up base power generation facilities
by construction a coal thermal power plant. Along with the peak power gained
by the existing HEPPs, obtaining a thermal base power in hand will be a great
advantage for the group. Limak is focusing its attention on this issue.
Limak has the desire to improve its power in the energy sector by being closely
interested in the DSI HEPP tenders and energy distribution tenders opened as a
part of privatization.
80 Limak Energy Group
“The biggest event for us in 2009 was the commissioning of Uzunçayr. Of course at
the same time we have another very big Project, Alkumru in Siirt. It has a capacity
of 270 MW. It is the second biggest dam built by the private sector in Turkey at the
moment. We expect a power generation of 1 billion kw/hour. It is the biggest power
of Limak in energy production. We started the construction at Alkumru in 2009 and
we are making a swift progress. It is an extremely valuable Project for us. Our aim
is to engage the plant in 2011. It has a deadline of 3 years and there is no other dam
of such magnitude that was completed in 3 years. Construction is carried out by
Limak Construction. It is a package with an investment value of approximately 450
million dollars.”

“Today in Turkey energy is the strategically sector for all big groups or all other groups thatare interested in growing. It is a strategically aim. And I think it is not wrong. The positionof enterprises in energy sector may change the ranking of the groups in the coming 5 – 10years.
2010 is going to be an ambitious year for Limak especially in the field of energy. I think LimakEnergy will become more well known. Limak Groups has saturated the idea of growing. I seemsthat all employees are wishing for more investments and growth. It is not a group that ishesitant about making investments and growing further. I think the most important featureof Limak is its being open to new ideas. Limak is an innovative group.
Processes are very fast in Limak. Decision making processes are very short. Naturally it is avery dynamic group; therefore, in order to catch up with this tempo we also need to speedup. We have to run fast. Limak Group is already very fast, it runs, it works very hard. Moreover,we are involved in the energy sector which is rather dynamic itself. When these two cometogether it requires more intensive working hours and more diligent work.”

“We built our policy upon this principle: We put human affection on the top priority. Then we choose all the people in our team from professionals.
While all the others considered investments in technology in this atmosphere of crisis, along with technological investments, we also established a tennis court, a footballpitch, and playgrounds for children in the plant facilities, built a pond within theplant area, and carried out agricultural activities to be a model for the locals. Wecarried out rehabilitation of all the managerial and social buildings.
This is quite important in Southeastern and Eastern Anatolia regions, because thereare not such places to meet the social needs of people. For example, on that datethere were no gyms in Siirt, but our plant had one.”

“One of the most exciting things for me in 2009 was the financing of our Alkumru
Dam because for the last year I have been mostly busy with the financing of HEPPs.
We used a 12-year term loan of $350 million USD for the dam in the midst of the
crisis. As this was during the crisis, it was an exciting project for both us and the
banks.
First the banks believed in the project, because we took the banks to the observation
on location with Nihat Özdemir. We observed the location of the dam with the senior

We are going to expand ourmarket share…“The goal of expanding the market share for 5 major products of ours comprises the
agenda of 2010: Pomegranate, tomato, apple, peach, and sour cherry.
Depending on the internal and external conditions and overcoming the global crisis
in a very short time, we will place our market share and our sense of quality on the
top.
I claim this firmly: with the factory we built and with our production, we will enter
top five in Europe. We feel this during the visits of large production groups from
numerous countries around the world.”

“When we started the investment, we decided to build an industrial facility that could
operate for 12 months, process all types of fruit, and that would never halt production.
Furthermore, we would sell the products of this facility to the world market and shape
these products according to the needs of customers that we targeted in the world
market. 2008 was a year of trial for us. We are entering a new market. We didn’t
know what type of product demand would come in which way, but we began
preparations. We had two important criteria here for us. We set a goal in 2007 like
this: we would sell products in the developed markets of the world. Thus, we sold our
products to Japan in our very first year, because when we entered these markets,
our know-how and register here would provide us priority to do business all around
the world, and then we would turn our experiences in those areas into profit in the
other areas of the world.”

“I never forget this. We built the Geyik Dam, a dam in Milas district. It is one of
the first dams of Limak. We constructed the control building. It was a huge building.
The supervising engineer came and opened the building, saying “Well done, Mr.
Özdemir, it is so good”. Nihat Özdemir looked at him and said “I didn’t like it. I
don’t care at all whether you like it or not. They should first make me like their
job”. We all froze. Most of the current senior managers were there. This was one
of the most crucial points in the history of Limak. And do you know what we did?
We demolished the building. The construction office was removed. We found all
the teams, brought them back, and demolished the building and built it again.
We never compromise quality. The people in Limak keep this in their minds all the
time.”

“When doing business, Limak always does the right thing with superior quality at the
right time, which means not conceding quality. Conceding price, but not quality. This
was a school for me. We saw it here. And we are trying to convey this to future
generations.
It is important how an outsider defines institutional culture, rather than how I define
it. Bank employees are people we see most. For them, Limak is quite trustworthy. So
they think that the institutional culture of Limak means keeping promises. For
somebody from the highways, Limak means quality. They think that the institutional
culture of Limak is defined as quality. Limak keeps the promises it makes but while
it does this, it is not money that is in the foreground, but quality.”

It is important that the firm be reliable, large, farsighted, and act confidently. Thismakes us trust the firm. It enables our trust in both the firm and ourselves. The factthat it is a large firm helps us develop ourselves professionally. It helps us open up ourhorizon and broaden our neighborhood. Before anything else, you look at the futurewith greater confidence. You learn your job in numerous fields better and in a shorttime. This results in gaining self-confidence both personally and professionally. You don’thave any worries or questions in your mind. What will happen to the firm tomorrow? Will it go bankrupt? Will the crisis affect it or not? Such questions never arise.
According to me, Limak is a company with a stable structure. It’s spine is strong. Thisis because the managers take firm steps. That is, they don’t change decisions momentarilybut move slowly and cautiously and thus the firm is a rigid one.”

“The greatest power of Limak is hidden in that it has a qualified resource of human that grewwith Limak for long years.
Although there are many companies that joined the group in recent years, the average workingage in our group of companies is high, which is an indicator of this. Limak achieved this thanksto as it values its directors and employees. And Limak employees repaid by making Limak grow.
This mutual gain has become a structure that will bring benefits not only to Limak but also tothe society through social responsibility projects.
So, what is the power behind this synergy? Actually the answer implies a simple but difficult-to-reach way: “correct human resources management…” Limak, which is nearly 40 years old, achieved human resources management by understanding that it does not depend on a singleunit, but success can be possible with qualified employees and directors with whom it will workand to whom it will give responsibilities.
In the center of business strategies lies the trust in hardworking and leading employees anddirectors who embrace that job, who lead it, and who claim to obtain a result. As a result, withteams that worked together for long years, this mutual trust created the stable and inimitablecompetitive advantage.
Limak is going to get the reward of this trust by growing even more with its current staff andthe qualified labor force that will join the team from this time on.”

“At the beginning of the 2000’s, we were constructing roads in Afghanistan. At that
time, the infrastructure in Afghanistan was extremely poor. The project was in a
problematic area as well. You have to fly on night planes. You arrive there in the
small hours. Then you have to take an 8- or 10-hour journey. It is not safe. There
are very limited places on the road to stop or to refuel. One side of the stones by the
road is painted in white, and the other side is red. The officers of the United Nations
marked the area after sweeping mines and placed painted touchstones. It is dangerous
if you pass to the red zone, as there might be mines there. Almost all of the roads
were like this. You couldn’t even get out of the vehicle during the journey. We also
struggles against extremely harsh natural conditions but we managed to deliver the
projects precisely on time and with success.”

Education, culture, arts andenvironment...“Our supports focus on especially education, scholarship, cultural and artistic activities. We
organized many charity concerts and fashion shows with Anaçev in 2009. Students from
Anaçev were granted scholarship. Besides, we supported the Presidential Symphony Orchestra
in Ankara and organized concerts. We had built a girls’ dormitory before in Siirt, where we
have a cement plant. We laid the foundation of a girls’ vocational high school in Afyon in 2010.
This school will be completed in one year. At the same time, we offer scholarship to many
students.
We want to make our social responsibility projects more organized, institutionalized and
sustainable by establishing the Limak Foundation. Our activities will generally focus on
education, scholarship, culture, arts and environment.
Since our headquarters is in Ankara, we try to support cultural and artistic activities in Ankara
more. A few years ago we supported Ankara Film Festival. This year the concerts of the
Presidential Symphony Orchestra with Anaçev were in Ankara. Our principle is “Give back
what you earn to the city you are in”. We will continue with our projects in Ankara and develop
them.
We supported Flying Broom Film Festival. We receive various projects and we want to support
several of them within the context of this foundation. Our top priority this year is to establish
the Limak Foundation.
We are designing a project about illiterate girls and brilliant children. We are planning to take
the Presidential Symphony Orchestra to the eastern cities for concerts. This project to make
children there familiar with classical music and to make them take on a hobby might be more
comprehensive. We might give them musical instruments, thus make them like music. We are
planning to carry out this in autumn at a different place each day for a week. This will be in
Diyarbakr, Urfa, Siirt, Mardin, Bitlis, and Gaziantep, where we have cement plants.”
